"For Safety." Remember?

  • Red-light cameras have churned out 2.2 million tickets and generated $284.9 million in fines since Mayor Rahm Emanuel took office, a revenue source the cash-strapped city simply cannot afford to relinquish, records show.

The biggest conveyor belts of those dreaded $100 tickets are the red-light cameras at Lake Shore Drive and Belmont, $8.1 million since May 2011; 4200 South Cicero, $7.46 million; Van Buren and Western, $6.3 million; and 87th and Lafayette, $5.8 million, according to records released to the Chicago Sun-Times in response to a Freedom of Information request.
Who would have thunk it? A politician lying for money. If only there was a way to remove these lying sacks of crap from the positions they hold.

If a politician wasn't lying they wouldn't get elected. If their lips move it's a lie.

$285mil?! That's a little more than half of the $550mil rahmmy needs to kick into the pension. Can we file a lawsuit that makes him not spend that and put it into the fund? City's broke? Methinks not.

Oops...I misread the story...I guess that $285mil was over a four year period. Can't put it into the pension cuz it's gone.

Notice the usual Slippery Syntax. How much of that 284.9 million in fines was actually COLLECTED?

If, as the article states, "The biggest conveyor belts of those dreaded $100 tickets are the red-light cameras at..." collectively netted only 27.66 million, what did all the other cameras around the city bring in?

Now it's all crystal clear why the DOR cowards so aggressively hammer the North and Soutwest side middle class enclaves; they're chock-full of God fearing, law abiding, gainfully employed citizens who will pay the fines without contest. Not to mention the City workers who HAVE to pay these fines.

Fuck you and your fuzzy math, Rahm.

I don't have a problem with red light cameras. Speed cameras, on the other hand, just make bad traffic worse and people speed around them in the surrounding areas to make up for lost time. Between them, the bike lanes and narrowing the streets downtown, you'd think the Mayor is purposely making traffic worse. Hey, and how about painting the lines on the street once in a while, too? THAT is really dangerous in some places.

Some one should get a freedom of information report and check out Rahns TIF funds. Ask which tax base the money is coming from and how much. Then check who is getting .these funds and compare that with his doner list for his political elections. The Feds love to twist and massage laws to fill the fed jails with public servants.
Fardon, Fardon pay attention. You awake yet boy? Did your head stop spinning yet?

Where is the money going? I know everyone knows it's "for the children" as always and for whatever pet projects rahms and crew want! Let's just hope this money will not be used for another fiasco like recently in the city council chambers where the 50 gave rousing applause to thugs getting over 5 million of taxpayers money for some contrived not proven alleged police misconduct! Rahms sir please man up and pay the police pension fund as due, the police are the bastardized step children without police anarchy as never been seen will arise, the media campaign to look under every rock to malign maliciously the police along with political machine has caused so much damage. Years ago there were bumper stickers on many vehicles "support your police" "police deserve a contract" you would never see that today! Why? Wrong elected and bosses with no "courage" to stand up except for 1 that goes on media shows look up sheriff David Clarke of Milwaukee county Wisconsin sheriffs department this is a real man who understands what police are going through on a daily basis who else speaks for us? Crickets!

Yes lots of people do not like red light and speeding cameras. They think they are unfair, the yellow lights rigged to run short etc etc. But, it is a fact, that most of western Europe has speed cameras on their freeways, in their traffic tunnels and on the cities streets. In addition, vans travel the roads with radar equipped and automatically issue citations for speeding. The average cost of a ticket for speeding? $300 US dollars. Red light cameras have been in Europe for decades. Now, there is a movement starting in the US to limit traffic stops by police officers in favor of camera enforcement, and that means on expressways also. I think that this movement might catch on. The goal is to limit contact between motorists and cops which in the eyes of certain people will limit tragic outcomes.

Some suburbs make the city look like pikers when it comes to camera enforcement. Rosemont & Harwood Heights are good examples. Some 'burbs were so bad, a law was passed to rein them in. familiarize yourself with 5/11-208.6 (c-5) I won a hearing once using a printout of the statute

All of this money plus our hard eraned tax dollars just go down a dark bottomless rat hole to unknown places. This has been going on for years and we have just become used to it. The city is broke and nobody wants to hold the corrupt greedy politicians accountable. We are probably on the road to bankruptcy and certainly too late to change anything. We have only ourselves to blame.

Well was THAT unexpected?
The Catered To Constituents are too fucking stupid
to see Rahm for the typical, nasty-assed North Shore classist and
pandering racist he really is.

He lives in constant fear of being outed as such to the catered
to constituency.

The catered to class has been weaponized by Daley Inc., Rahm & Co. and local media
to keep the middle class tax paying suckers and the captive indentured servant muni
employee class away from the levers of power that are rightfully theirs to have access to.

Somebody can SURELY make media hay from this if they wanted to make that vile and
malignant little hobgoblin squirm.

This has the potential to be Rahm's Achilles Heel.

We recall the scene from the "Godfather" when the Corleones were debating going into
the drug trade... "...Sell it to the (Insert Well Known, Plural Tensed, Racist Pejorative Term
That Begins With The Letter "N," Here.)..."

Now...
Wonder out loud what the rate of payment is from these camera
locations.

Among other things...

>Frantic Morse Code sound and serious like a m/fer news-flash music<

This just in.
Another anti-Police media hit piece will be played up
soon to offset this little revelatory nugget burning Rahm's
narrow ass.

Generated revenue is about as guaranteed as Projected revenue, because some folks just flat out refuse to pay their bills, use several addresses and basically not give a crap about laws, fines and penalties, so Rahm doesn't talk about Collected revenue.
I recall there was once a proposed ordinance that was suppose to place liens on property for unpaid fines, whether parking or water bills. Once again Rahm touts big revenues for a program that really benefits the Camera collector and not the so much the City and he's always willing to expand the program for his friends benefit. The either expand my program or I'm raising taxes strong arm.
Rahm's people haven't said how much the scofflaws owe lately, have they?

But yet where is the promised casino rahm with 100% of the profits to shore up the looted pension funds? Who gave for example dv realty daley/vanecko over 60 MILLION of our dollars that was in the fund for an investment that like everything daley touches goes belly up? Who approved this theft? were us the membership that contributes to the pension consulted? Nope but who gave the money away freely? Hope the feds look at this with a microscope!

Speed cameras are common throughout Europe, not just on the city streets but on the highways. A speeding ticket will cost you $300. They also have vans roaming the highways with radar that generate automatic citations. I can only imagine the outrage if they tried that here, but also imagine the money that would be raised just on the Dan Ryan? That would shore up the pensions and fast.

I got a ticket for LSD and Belmont. Right turn on red infraction. Without the right turn on red infractions there would be no red light program at all. The true safety feature of the program is to eliminate the driving straight through red lights to prevent the horrible 90 degree collisions, but with far fewer tickets the program would not pay for itself. The scam is the right turn on red fines, funny the news media never mentions that.
