Joravsky Strikes Again

So what do CTA people know about running the CPS? Everything, judging by Claypool's hiring binge:
  • It's budget season at the Board of Education, which means we've entered that twilight zone of misdirection where the bosses say one thing and do something else.

In this case, Forrest Claypool, Mayor Emanuel's latest schools CEO, is making a big public to-do about how he's cut central office spending to the bone. All so that teachers, facing a 7 percent pay cut, and principals, worried about millions in budget cuts, will not feel so alone. Or as Claypool, who the mayor brought in from the CTA, recently put it during a press conference: "Everybody's got to pitch in."

Meanwhile, very quietly—with nary a press conference—Claypool's padding the payroll with various rubber stamps, most of whom have no experience in public education. (If you think you've seen this trick before, you're right: Ron Huberman, Mayor Daley's last schools CEO, tried much the same thing.) As exasperating as this practice sounds to anyone who has to teach or attend a public school, it's sort of a field day for reporters looking for examples of double standards in Chicago.
Ron Luberman, who went from patrol to exempt in something like a year without ever taking a promotional exam, then went to Chief of Staff, then CTA, then CPS, then lord knows where, always at the public teat, always at the big salary, and always over his head every place he went as evidenced by his short stays.

This is what we touched on the other day, noting that Claypool had cut $1 million in CPS salaries while adding $1.2 million in the "Friends of Forrest"payroll.

SCC....you forgot Luberman's stay at our own OEMC where he dismantled the newly created Emergency Management program that was started under Cortez Trotter. Luberman's, having no knowledge of the city's emergency response plans or their importance got rid of the trained emergency managers to further his camera program. When the s@@t hits the fan, let's hope Ronnie's cameras are working,

Is there some secret society you have to belong to in order to get these perks? Exactly how do you get in a position to squeeze the nuts of the powerful so much that they keep giving you these gifts?

Whoops = but let's lay off more teachers.

The CPS like all forms of government in Illinois has a spending problem. They just don't know how to stop spending.

The one thing I do support is the teachers need to be paying more than 2% into their pensions.

Clay pool is the one who hired Celia Meza to be head of human resources in CTA for $120,000.00 a year. Then in less than 3 months Clay Pool gives Meza a $30,000.00 dollar raise at a whopping $150,000.00 dollars at CTA, I don't even think Mesa was there at CTA for 8 months if that. Rahm hires Comptroller for the city. Celia Meza gets fired from CTA 150k for being unethical. Then Celia Meza gets hired at Inspectors General office 2 months later from being fired at CTA for 120k to investigate the now indicted, extradited comptroller.

Is like saying let's free Blago to investigate Celia Meza.

The article also informs you that the residency requirement is waived for many of Claypool's executives at CPS.

The same shit is going down at the City Colleges of Chicago. No experience in higher education administration is required. Witness "Chancellor" Cheryl Hyman, a former bankruptcy petitioner, being promoted beyond her level of incompetence simply because she is the "protégé" of Frank Clark of Commonwealth Edison (Clark has been appointed to the Chicago Board of Education by Emanuel). Hyman left Chicago years ago and owns a suburban McMansion, but claims to comply with residency rules because she rents an apartment from Elzie Higginbotham's firm. Emanuel's brother-in-law (Laurent Pernot) has been hired by the City Colleges as an Executive Vice President and he has received substantial salary increases at regular intervals.

The grandiose building plans for the Shitty Colleges of Chicago are driven by the politicians awareness that this unit of government is solvent and it is controlled by the mayor. It has the only unelected board of community college trustees in Illinois. The bogus shuttle bus contract approved by the City Colleges (empty buses running parallel to CTA routes) is a smaller scale version of the Hired Trucks scandal.

At Keller school at 108th and Whipple they are doing some very expensive landscaping with half ton rocks and trees. Looks nice, but if the schools are broke, who's paying for it and why so we need it now? They are building an addition to Mt. Greenwood school, looks nice, and it's needed, but is it needed now? I would live to put in a new drive way and add an addition. Need them both, but I CAN'T AFFORD IT, so I don't. In the mean time the stupid fake wrought iron fences Daley paid the mob to install need to be painted and look like crap. And people still keep voting for these idiots. From the Alderman to the Mayor and State Reps.

The CEO of schools need only be a good and smart business person, not an educator. Leave that to the next in line. But, what needs to be done is to really cut to the bone, not the phony rhetoric that the political class always uses. The administration of CPS has always been a patronage haven, the first and last resort for jobs for the connected. I don't trust them no matter what they say. Only an outside audit of jobs and job description and salary would convince me. That is why I voted for Rauner. I might agree with all he says, but I trust him to tell the truth about the financial health of the state.

Maybe it's just me but it sure seems like there's a lot of people being hired at CPS HQ with big fancy titles -- along with big fancy salaries -- who really don't have (what used to be called), A REAL JOB with actual WORK to do. Showing up, making phones calls and shuffling some papers isn't exactly 'work'.

It's almost a classic 'No Show Job' and the funny thing is that when 'the mob' does this on construction sites the feds go after them and put them in prison for Racketeering. But when democrat pols like Rahm and his cabal of cohorts does it with 'Suits', they get praised and defended (usually).

Why is everyone being so critical of this? It's regular democratic/socialist policy. You cut one million, tell everyone you saved money, then spend a million and a quarter and raise taxes to pay the difference.

Can you run your house that way? No? Then why do you allow your government to be run that way?

9/07/2015 07:06:00 AM

True, I agree, but,....there is a very convoluted pension system in place that is tied to the State. Also was that provision written in VS a raise, just like we had the young guys accept uniform allowances and shift differentials that were not pensionable because they wanted that retro check NOW?

I was CPD:My sister, rest her soul, was CPS. Summers off;yes. Us?; no. 2 to 4 hours after school spent towards the next day;yes. Us,no! Spending her own money on class materials, yes. Us,no! Great union, yes. Us, are you kidding? Ability to strike?, yes. Us, no!

Apples to oranges actually.

The bottom line is that the Government let us and the good citizens all down.

It's been the same twenty or thirty last names being screwed into
and out of the same series of six figure municipal jobs for the last
five or so generations and it's gotten patently obnoxious over the last
quarter century.

It ain't because these people are talented or upright but because they're
loyal and keep their mouths shut so that no kingpins get sent to the shit house.

Damn...
We were really hoping Sorich with his frail ass would've snitched and sent
Short-Biggie to prison.

Well...
There's always hope that Ahmad will
snitch on Rahm and send HIM to prison...

Claypool didn't know shit about transportation either. Had friend who was a transportation professional (meaning he had the schooling, background and training to do the job). He said ClayFool brought in a bunch of unqualified friends and political leaches who, big surprise, knew nothing. Luckily my friend found a position out west and got to leave this shithole of a city.

Joravsky and his "Reader" associates are all tied right into North Western's Medill School of Journalism, the exact same entity which sues Chicago police officers and gladly writes about it.

Why on earth would you give him ANY attention, SCC?

I'm guessing it's because Joravsky is an investigative journalist. And a damned good one.
Don't paint everyone with one brush (you know, kinda like 'all cops are dirty'). Generalizing is lazy thinking.

Don't kid yourself here folks...Claypool means vendor and construction contracts continue to go to Rahm, Burke, and O'Connor loyalists and pals. Why doesn't Jovasky ever research these contracts? It's because he's too fucking lazy and goes for the easy story. Hell, I'll even give him one to look up: Check out the vendor and construction contract at Prosser HS. Jovasky will find Ald. Patrick O'Connor's asst (Tim Czarnecki) is on the Prosser LSC and uses his pull to get O'Connor and Burke loyalists some nice contracts at Prosser. And, before Ald. Emma Mitts' ward was redrawn, she was in on the action at Prosser too! Explain how one construction company can get 4-5 contracts with bids accepted under $10,000 (which is the reporting limit) to do all the work at the same time. Get an FOIA Ben!!!

Maybe, someone with some stones will look into these contracts and when they do, they'll find some very familiar names if they cross-referenced campaign contributors of Rahm and Co. (The same thing could have ben found out with King Richie).
