Anything to avoid political embarrassment for the Daleys and their cheerleaders:
- Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez has agreed to a $50,000 settlement with David Koschman’s mother.
Nanci Koschman is dropping her court fight accusing prosecutors of taking part in a coverup to keep Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko, a nephew of former Mayor Richard. M. Daley, from being charged in the death of her son.
The $50,000 payment will come from Cook County taxpayers.
The settlement comes five months after City Hall paid Nanci Koschman $250,000 to drop similar claims against the Chicago Police Department and 21 current or former police officers who investigated the case in 2004 and 2011, both times refusing to charge Vanecko.

So the favors that put that Lieutenant in the Northside "D" Unit were called in to protect a member of the "Family"! Yes, lousy political influenced investigation and the cover up by Alveraz and the department pushed this well past the point for prosecution or civil suits. I was at a dinner meeting of a group that I belong to and Anita was the guest speaker. A few comments were made afterwards in the hallway about the poor investigation and prosecution in the Koschman case and Aleraz should have talked about it instead of praising herself. The response by some of her followers was that this was just a drunken bar fight and meant nothing and was not worth an investigation. So, I replied, "Then, you are saying that bar fights are to be considered justifiable homicide" Of course, they did not like that response. I wonder if they would have taken that position, or any of the supporters of Alveraz or the police department,if Koschman would have been their kid?

Its really a shame that she didn't continue to pursue this case, and settled for such a small amount money. Ghetto felons with rap sheets thick as phone books have been awarded millions for lesser bs and this woman whose son was murdered by a Daley (the most corrupted wealthy family in the midwest) got pennies in comparison. Anita literally 'bought' her way out of the criminal cover-up on her part. A simple phone record chain review would show that the ASA (Felony Revue)at some point got all the way up the chain ladder to Anita who was responsible for the initial charges, or lack thereof.

Last time I checked the investigative reporters made a compelling case that the investigation was sabotaged by the Irish mafia that is Area North. I could go into room C-5, the repository for homicide files at Area Four, and easily grab a forty-year-old open homicide file exactly where it's supposed to be, yet a heater case file disappears and the GPR's are missing or re-written to alter facts and original witness statements. The case was undermined starting with the original dick and violent crime lieutenant who each narrowly missed going to the penitentiary themselves for past misdeeds-google both-and the affirmative action states attorney who fought tooth and nail against the appointment of a special prosecutor. Poor woman had enough and just settled to stop the madness. The handling of this case by cpd was tainted from the very beginning when the detectives assigned the case the night of the incident went on furlough and no other detective followed up until 3 weeks later. The victim was in the hospital in critical condition, and that alone should have triggered an immediate investigation by the next watch. This case started off with sloppy and incompetent work, and then it turned into slick and sneaky work once they knew daleys nephew was involved. It's a damn shame.

I might have agreed with if Vanecko would have stuck around til the police arrived and explained the situation. But running away and coercing witnesses to give false info to the police gives me the impression even he knew he did something wrong.

What a waste of taxpayer money. Just because you lost a fight that you started does not automatically make you a victim.
Even if Vanecko (sp?) was not related to Daley, felony charges would have never been approved.
This chapter is far from closed. The civil action is closed, but there is no statue of limitations on obstruction of justice. Criminal charges/indictments are still possible.

Why won't the media say the same thing: "the money used to build the DePaul basketball stadium will come from taxpayers", "the $55,000,000 used to build Maggie Daley Park will come from taxpayers", etc.
Have you noticed that whenever the police get sued or city employees compensation is considered, the media lap dogs always are concerned about money coming from the city taxpayers. But when it comes to the wasteful construction projects awarded to insiders or selling away city assets like the parking meters, etc. they the media is never uses that same line.

I also heard from an 11th Warder that daughter Nora is being groomed to run for citywide office eventually, as son Patrick is no longer the political heir, due to his involvement in the Grand Beach aggravated battery incident, and his investment in a defunct sewer inspection company that suddenly gained millions of dollars in city contracts.
It is way past time to say goodbye to these political family dynasties. No more Daleys in elective office, nor Clintons or Bushes. I still can't believe that anyone would even consider for a second voting for the likes of Hillary Clinton for president.

Like Everyone else who is NOT the police, Carson's response is rear view mirror, all the facts known, after the fact interpretation of what should have been done. Not a stress filled, split second decision on what lies in front of you emergency situation, and needs to be done to save your life or someone else's right GD NOW!
The question is a set up to get an inflamatory response. Carson never said Darren Wilson was wrong. Everyone both law enforcement and civilian can second guess what they would have done and what could or should have been done. So if attorneys botched it, it's called MALPRACTICE and could result in a new lawsuit against the ineffective counsel.

I have no problem with punishing or firing those were involved in a cover up or trying to protect the connected goof involved. But at the end of the day - NO POLICE were involved in his death - so tax payers shouldn't be on the hook for anything. Your scumbag theory is correct - but has nothing to do with this case. Another opinion, here's mine: A Rush Street altercation that would probably have gone through with little or no jail time. I won't offer an opinion on the guilt or innocence of who did what, but I would compare it to handling or punching my 10 year old son if I compare sizes.

There is no cure for the extent of this clown's terminal case of "white guilt". His wife was brutally assaulted by a criminal and instead of pursuing real justice and the prosecution of those savage, self-serving wicked elements in society that prey on the productive, law-abiding, and civilized, he chooses to advocate and defend the leeches of the state who have turned receiving government subsidies into a career. In addition to catering to those entitled masses, specifically the residents of CHA projects where gang, drug, and domestic violence are the three pillars upon which those "communities" thrive, he attacks law enforcement - the same people charged with the daunting, life threatening, and near impossible task of maintaining the last remnants of peace and order in that same aforementioned "community". People like that have some deep seeded shame or resentment for their own position of success or accomplishment. The fact that a any man would publicize his wife's personal trauma is evidence alone that his mental capacity is seriously lacking. Even more disturbing is the support he got from his wife to proceed with his "literal" catharsis. The rational and logical reaction of any victim and their family is to seek restitution and justice for the wrongful act committed against him/her. In this case, her attacker was black and was never caught. Instead of placing blame on the offender, Kalven blames police, racism, the justice system, and I think he even blames himself. This is the mindset of the typical liberal- apologize for working and having money, apologize for living in a nice neighborhood, apologize for being victimized; it's not the criminal's fault - he can't go to school and graduate, he can't find employment and earn a promotion, he can't build a productive life for himself because I have prevented him from doing all of these things so now I have to UNDERSTAND and EMPATHIZE the criminal acts he commits on me because they are ALL MY FAULT. Kalven and those like him now demonize law enforcement for trying to perform their duties in good faith while making excuses for criminals and their actions. A couple of interesting side notes - 1.This man that pursues freedom of information and the disclosure of officers' information, interestingly enough, has no information disclosed about himself (unable to verify whether he still lived in Chicago) and 2. The judge that ruled in his favor was Lefkow- same one whose family was murdered by an individual that was seeking revenge on her for a ruling that was not in his favor. I believe she enjoyed free 24/hr police protection for quite some time after that incident.

Being a smart ass, and maybe a little under the weather ( a judgement not backed up by facts) does not entitle someone way bigger then you to punch you in the face and knock you down whereby you hit your head and die. I'll never forget what Denis did for me and most if not all the posts pissing on Denis couldn't tell you what he looked like.
I was driving w/a guy about 50 years old in a Southside District and this dude started going off about Denis. I listened and asked him if he knew him well. He said "Fuck yea" and then I told the guy that Denis looks lovely like a good with that burning bush red hair. That Copper agreed.
It was then that I came to the realization that poking shit at Denis was being done by people who couldn't even I.D. Denis.
