Only $20,000 Bail?
- A Chicago woman has been charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer following a display of “disruptive behavior” after being denied a hospital dinner tray at Stroger Hospital, according to prosecutors and court documents.
Jonnetta Shepherd, 18, was charged with felony aggravated battery of a peace officer, as well as misdemeanor battery and resisting or obstructing a peace officer Thursday.
Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Shepherd held in lieu of $20,000 bail on Saturday.
Stroger Hospital police were called after Shepherd became upset when she was denied a dinner tray while visiting the hospital, according to a police report. A nurse told her that dinner was only served to patients, not visitors, the report said. Shepherd responded by swearing at the nurse and making racial remarks while refusing to move to the waiting area.
And then the fun really began:
- When police arrived, Shepherd told them that they would have to fight her because she would not leave, the report said. When police tried to remove Shepherd from the hospital and handcuff her, she kicked one of them in the chest and another in the hand, breaking it, and caused lacerations to the forearm of a third officer by scratching him.
While in Stroger Hospital police custody, Shepherd hit her head on a concrete cell wall several times, was restrained with leg irons and was taken to the emergency room for a psychological evaluation, according to the report.
While being taken to the emergency room, Shepherd kicked an officer in the right thigh, according to the police report.
So, the casualty count is one officer off for a few months with a broken hand, one for a few weeks with a laceration, two bruised...all over some bizarre sense of entitlement to a $5 food tray because she "visited" the hospital. And bail is $20-grand.
Makes perfect sense.

Not surprised. This is Cook county. The ghetto county of Illinois.
Now keep those entitlements coming, wont ya.
Not that I'm a fan of Battaglia, who is a certifiable nut and probably on medication, but he got a $100,000 bail for threatening two officers and can't get a public defender because of police pension but this woman injured five officers and gets a $20,000 bail and a public defender. That title ex-police officer screws us. All men are not created or treated equally.
Is that food really that good?!?!
She is young, poor and not a flight risk. The bail is reasonable. Also, is it possible she is supporting a family?
If she was arrested in Lake, DuPage, or Kane, she'd have had a high bond. Toni doesn't play it that way though.
Bada bing Joey Taggs got a $100,000 bail
Just another day at stroger... Ignorant animals just can't understand that they aren't owed everything they want
I'm surprised there isn't a video showing only the part where she was put into submission. She'll probably receive 6,000,000 from the city council and a few bucks from the wall that attacked her head.
After all that, did she finally get her dinner?
Had she been Tased or hit with a baton (WELL within the guidelines for Use of Force on a combatant) it would have been headline news: "Chicago Police Tase Hospital Visitor".
Instead we have coppers putting themselves in harms way to avoid the headline and ensuing lawsuit. How many officers ended up in the hospital as patients? Thanks Media. Thanks Obama. Thanks you feckless voters that put these shameless pandering politicians in place. You are only beginning to see what "de policing" is.
Well, she's been getting free breakfast, lunch, and dinner at CPS, and l'm sure a LINK card her entire life, and since Stroger is yet another taxpayer funded facility, l guess she figured it was owed her.
But the low bail is a mystery considering what they did to Cozzi for his hospital "assault".
You have to understand, she was frustrated because she attended a poor school, was denied economic opportunity, was the victim of income disparity, and yadda yadda yadda.....
she got her dinner tray in the end tho right?
What psych exam. The mere fact that she wanted a tray of hospital food clearly indicates insanity,.
Play the mental game and you'll walk. The courts always have pity for those with a disability. (real or not or made up)
Was the judge ever denied a dinner tray?

Please God, I hope the above comment is sarcasm. If it isn't - then this is the finest LIBERAL mind in action.
Yeah, she's supporting a family - asshat.

Odds are, that you are young. Probably not truly poor. Have nowhere to run or reason to do so. And, I suppose, it's possible that you are supporting a family. I certainly hope not because you are obviously a moron that should not have procreated. Stay off your cell phone and get an education.
Another wesside "crack baby", on SSI from the cradle to the grave!
She will reproduce and the cycle continues...
Look at the above story. $100,000 bond for making threats. That is what this city thinks of it's Police.
She got a free meal, in jail. I am so glad I no longer live in cook county, over in Indiana we do a better job of keeping folks like this in check.
she is the product of a democratic welfare system , most likely from a single parent home , cps student or former cps ?
Snickers should hire here for their ad campaign. Give her a Snickers bar and she turns into Michelle Obama.
My sympathies to the injured police officers. I hope the day arrives soon when officers can defend themselves with whatever force is necessary to convince "people" It's not a good idea to f#ck with the police.

But did you see Michael Slager, the ex cop charged with murder in north charleston, was denied bond? The judge said that Slager being released from jail would constitute an unreasonable danger to the community. Couldn't believe he could keep a straight face while saying that. How many slugs are bonded out by these judges just to commit another crime and end up back in jail. But if a cop who's never been arrested before is facing charges there's no bond. Maybe the judge knows that releasing Slager would cause blacks to riot and protest, but he's not supposed to weigh that into it. But hey, keep on doing those traffic stops boys and girls!!
Judge Laura Sullivan. Another entry in our Roster of Rogue Judges. If she is a full judge - vote no next retention ballot when her name is up. If she is an ASSociate Judge -'groups like the FOP and BGA need to lobby the Chief Judge (Evans)'to start removal procedures.
Rant all you want but remember to VOTE.
Far from un-fucking believable, more like typical.
This post is related to use of force and not in relation to what happened at Stroger. I was not there.
A lot of officers don't know how to fight. At the least every officer should know five locks, five strikes and five throws. At the minimum. Just ask yourself when you sit down today in the roll call room. How many of the people in the roll call room know how to take care of business if an assailant wants to duke it out with you and your partner?
Must be a "kinder and gentler" crew over at County Hospital P.D.
That bunch we knew from years back were some bonafide ogres
who rather enjoyed beating the shit out of whatever random ass
that dared to do the fool with them.
Ol' girl would've been sad, sore, "swole-up" and sorry
by the time "chuh-uch" and the righteous laying-on
of healing hands came to a conclusion.
Whether ol' girl is actually afflicted with her claimed ailment or not.
Vigorous application of the rod of correction has resulted in MANY
miracle cures...
Hallelujah?
Amen!

flagrantly shit-talked them after they advised him about obstructing traffic.)

Never forget what was done to Bill Cozzi in the hospital, where the scumbag spit and did other things to the nurse and him, hospital told on Bill you know the rest lost freedom, pension, spent hundreds of thousands on corrupt lawyers now this judge obviously don't care about police broken hand and police attacked by animal ridiculous crazy wow! Guess even from judges perspective police are the enemy! Hope the officers heal quickly but broken bones may heal but will never be the same prayers for the victims the police!!

If she can support her family then she doesn't need a public defender. She can hire her own attorney.
Or did you mean to say, "Is the government supporting her and her family?"
How do you know she won't hop on a bus and head to Mississippi after she bonds out?
And if you want to find out if she supports her family, go visit her and see and if they need help. Invite her and her family into your home so you can take care of them.
Kicked a officer in the chest/ were they five foot straight or was this Jackie chan
This woman is a moron. The food they deliver to the rooms sucks and most of it gets thrown out. People in-the-know eat at the dinner cafeteria in the basement. Good stuff.
Nurses put up with this crap all the time. They have to smile and be nice or the get a bad review.
Maybe she just needed a snickers
Charge link cards for the damage and you will put a stop to this when all she can afford is peanut butter and jelly.
"Odds are, that you are young."

Odds are, that's just our troll. Watches to see which way majority opinion is going in a discussion and then pops out with the opposite. Supposed to enrage everyone.

Man. Those blue lights go on and you hear the sound of acceleration, and it's a lot quicker then waiting in line at Lourdes, huh?
"Cast aside yo' crutches and WALK! Praise God! He have been CURED!"
>pfft<
They'd have been better off just bringing her a fucking tray. All that over hospital food?
I come from a single parent home and I do not go around demanding free food from Stroger Hospital. As a matter of fact, I took my good insurance that I got from my good job, and a family that was never on welfare to Stroger so that somebody paid so that the good people who work there could keep their employment and citizens can keep getting good medical care that they give to patients.
