Candlelight Vigil

From their e-mail:
  • The 2015 Candlelight Vigil will be held on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:30 PM in Gold Star Families Memorial and Park. All police officers, their families and friends are invited. The ceremony is expected to last an hour and will take place rain or shine.

As is the tradition of the Candlelight Vigil, the names of all Chicago police officers who died in the line of duty will be read. Those who wish to read the name of a fallen Officer should email Nikia.Davis@chicagopolice.org.

Gold Star Families Memorial and Park is located on Chicago Park District grounds near Waldron Drive (in the shadow of Soldier Field). Uniformed CPD personnel will direct attendees to the parking lot at the 18th Street exit off of Lake Shore Drive.
Hope to see you all there.

Even in death, CPD is on the backburner. Look at all the coverage other cities and towns get.

While I realize this info was probably available weeks ago--and could have looked for it.....why is it just now coming out to the troops.....and yes I know it is usually done mid-September...but also know attendance would be higher if the word was out early and more often.

Of course--had no clue there was a remembrance at HQ on 9/11...and I work there...of course am not a boss- so "wasn't invited"--- but many people in the building were surprised to see it on the news..and recall years past when the whole building participated in a moment of silence....

Always thought "together we can"---was the wrong slogan--"together we will" fosters a goal....but no longer see a can/will or even a together...our department is fragmented and the citizens ( good/bad/ incompetent politicians or evil media) are pulling the strings of our useless upper management.

Every time I have to go their and I see the line of sex offenders out there smoking and chatting I think about what a slap in the face that is for the Department. Now I see we have forfeited part of the lobby of Police Headquarters so that they can be inside when it's chilly. It is shameful.

Like ... your spot at 35th & Michigan? And ... if 9/11 meant anything to you, perhaps you would have gotten a bit more pro-active and ASKED if there was any kind of service rather than waiting for "my and other units" to put something out. Actually, I'm pretty happy you're at 35th Street and not out here with the adults ...

America’s Legal Order Begins to Fray

Amid the escalation of violent crime are signs of a breakdown of basic respect for law enforcement.

By Heather Mac Donald
Sept. 13, 2015 6:23 p.m. ET

After two decades of the most remarkable crime drop in U.S. history, law enforcement has come to this: “I’m deliberately not getting involved in things I would have in the 1990s and 2000s,” an emergency-services officer in New York City tells me. “I won’t get out of my car for a reasonable-suspicion stop; I will if there’s a violent felony committed in my presence.”

A virulent antipolice campaign over the past year—initially fueled by a since-discredited narrative about a police shooting in Ferguson, Mo.—has made police officers reluctant to do their jobs. The Black Lives Matter movement proclaims that the police are a lethal threat to blacks and that the criminal-justice system is pervaded by racial bias. The media amplify that message on an almost daily basis. Officers now worry about becoming the latest racist cop of the week, losing their job or being indicted if a good-faith encounter with a suspect goes awry or is merely distorted by an incomplete cellphone video.

With police so discouraged, violent crime has surged in at least 35 American cities this year. The alarming murder increase prompted an emergency meeting of the Major Cities Chiefs Association last month. Homicides were up 76% in Milwaukee, 60% in St. Louis, and 56% in Baltimore through mid-August, compared with the same period in 2014; murder was up 47% in Minneapolis and 36% in Houston through mid-July.

To: All personnel who are not an exalted gold star
From: Supt. McCarthy
Subject: 9/11 Rememberance Ceremony

Since you insist on calling me "Garry" or other monikers such as McStreetlight - you are not allowed to attend the Memorial.
You may pay your respects on 16 September at the Gold Star Park Memorial.

Hey Supt. Mc CompCrap:

Until you tell the public the truth regarding crime rates & manpower, we request that you do not defile the departed members and those who still serve by staying in your office and keeping your mouth shut. Your silence is a CALEA requirement for their worthless certification.

16 Sep1995 PO James M. O'Connor #4573 assigned to the 023rd district was killed in the line of duty. Jimmy was off duty and chased two robbers in his personal car, killing one offender while he was hit buy gunfire. Rest in peace Marine.
