This was a Bad Night (UPDATE)

  • A person is dead and 11 others are hurt following a shooting and subsequent car crash in Englewood early Sunday morning, police said.

Five were wounded from the gunfire and another six were wounded in the crash, according to police.

At 2:08 a.m., at least six people were standing in the 5800 block of South Lasalle Avenue when another group ran out from an alley across the street and opened fire, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Someone from the group pulled out a gun and returned fire, hitting a passing car, Estrada said. The car's driver lost control and flipped over.
No word yet from honeymooning Garry if the original gun was wielded by a Concealed Carry Licensee or if the return fire was sent downrange by a fully qualified holder of an FOID card. Twelve casualties from this incident alone and a particularly blood weekend checking in with something like 8 dead and 45 maimed.

UPDATE: Lots of people insisting this address isn't Englewood. That's the media for you - not like Englewood couldn't absorb the hit for another dozen victims anyway.

If only a contact card had been done, this all could've been prevented.

Nyaaaahahahahahaaaa!

It would be beyond funny if G A R R Y said fuck it, fuck Rahm,
fuck a confidentiality clause and spilled his guts to the feebs...

Should be easy to do since they've been walking in his tracks since
near the end of his New Yuck days.

Are the five injured in the car also considered shooting victims?

2:08 AM. The vibrant night life of Chicago.

What sort of cultural enrichment happens at 2 AM in Englewood?
Were they practicing for the Church Choir?
Were they having a neighborhood meeting to discuss the next park cleanup?

Why are groups of people allowed to stand around on street corners and two in the morning? They should have been rousted and the group broken up. Same for the car. What were six or more people doing driving around during the wee hours of the morning? Break these gathering up. No more than two people allowed to assemble at anytime in any outside place.

Were it not for all the blood and screaming and motherf__ing and flashing emergency lights of all different colors, I'd say this was some kind of video game. "Got Me A Strap III" or something.

It makes no more difference than that to the people who are doing it. Jus' clownin'.

So they get dead or crippled or locked up, and the taxpayers get the bill. Minus-zero-sum plan here. Not even a handful of Swishers or a new pair of Nikes in it for anyone.

Englewood is the size of a postage stamp and is absolutely saturated with police resources.... probably more coppers working there on a daily basis than anywhere in the city.
Just goes to show you that in some areas you could put an officer on every corner and you'd still have the Beast rearing its ugly head.

Keep stripping the quiet areas of manpower and adding those resources to the ghetto cause it's the political pandering way to go right Rahm and McJagbag?

As long as the courts keep releasing offenders, the shootings will continue.

HEY Mayor just found another 'spot' to vacate! I thought everyone from the department were allowed to talk to the media. Unless that was rescinded why do we need that unit?

You know, I'll bet if all the desk officers were on the street, and the new
'contact card' w/receipt paperwork was in effect, this wouldn't have happened.

You know what would stop this nonsense? Doing away with welfare. Up here where I live on the north side NO ONE was out "standing on the street" at 2:08 am, why? Because they had to get up and go to work the next morning to pay their state, county and federal taxes. Oh, and to make sure all these shit heads get their freebies. ENOUGH ALREADY.

Trib might be doing some good coverage on the nightly MurderFest; couldn't tell you. Approx. 7 out of 8 stories and photo sets are paywalled now.

Time to go somewhere else for news.

Fewer clicks = less revenue = descending spiral.

Their old Sunday magazine supplement was bigger than the whole paper is today.

The boundary is correct. It's Englewood the neighborhood, which runs to State, not Englewood the district.

...and always remember -- it's easiest to get contact cards on complainants. They are standing still right in front of you, often have just one name and one address, and are generally pretty safe to deal with.

Hand 'em in, and...another night's good work done!

I believe that is/was the McDermit center. Used to drop off drunks there until they got too picky and lost their agreement with the city as a detox shelter.

Hope no innocent geriatric suffered a heart attack at home during this cluster fuck, all the resources from the south side were utilized taking non-evolved DNA specimens to trauma centers so they could be patched up & put back in the game, to the tune of millions in wasted resources & free health care! Enjoy that $20 Tylenol next time you wake up from surgery, you poor insured city working schlep! & don't forget to call your carrier to make sure you have "approval" to go directly to the ER when you have an emergency, or else yo bills ain't fina get paid!

You got that right. Break it up on the corner before there's trouble, that was the norm, just sensible police work. Want to gather, party, OK, just go in someone's crib or out in the back yard and keep it down. Enough problems with that as it is sometimes. "Nothing good happens after midnight."

Stay safe.
