- Chicago police are looking into whether a 9-year-old boy was killed in retaliation for his father’s alleged role in a gang rivalry that resulted in at least two recent slayings on the South Side and the wounding of a reputed gang member’s mother, law enforcement sources have told the Tribune.
But while the father of Tyshawn Lee said he believes his son was targeted, he denied anyone had reason to kill the boy in order to retaliate against him.
In an interview Tuesday night with the Tribune, Pierre Stokes denied anyone would have a motive to kill him, but if they did, there was no reason to take it out on his son because he’s out in public in the neighborhood all the time. If anyone wanted to harm him, they could find the opportunity, he said.
“I’m not hard to find,” Stokes said.
First up Einstein, you're assuming that these are reasonable people that are hunting you - people who need a motive. Additionally, the warnings being given out to the police are pretty specific as to what's about to blow up on the south side.

A community has to correct its problems from the inside out, not the other way around. You can throw all the money and social programs and cops and National Guardsmen and the fucking Marvel Comics Fantastic Four at these crime-plagued hell holes and it won't make a difference if the citizens don't care. If they don't cooperate. If they don't call 911. If they don't share what they see developing on the streets long before a shot is fired. Communications technology is better, cheaper and more available than ever but that won't help a community that thinks it doesn't need the police. This is what "The No-Snitch Rule" leads to and all communities are susceptible to it to some degree. I bitch at my liberal/moderate friends all the time about the importance of neighborhood watch, phone trees, etc.. Crime and chaos are active viruses that can travel anywhere.

Remove all police resources from the affected area. Set up a perimeter, give residents 24 hours to bug out, then shut it down and allow those "in the box" to slaughter eachother.

Until the culture changes this will only continue and get worse. As a white copper that has worked in the African American community most of my career I will say that most blacks like most whites are good people who try to do their best. Problem is that the African American community has a vicious, violent sub culture that no one wants to address. If whites mention it they are called racist, and most blacks see it but don't want to face it. This is all of our problem, and wont change any time soon.

My additional observation is that all of this more "community involvement-policing, etc will solve the problem" will not work in the troubled communities. Why? Fear. The working people there know the limits of police protection and response. They know the consequences of involvement, like getting their garage, porch, or house firebombed or shots thru the windows. "Snitches get stitches" is a reality that the liberals from their safe environment do not understand. In this day and age any aggressive policing needed to resolve the problems will meet with political outrage and DOJ investigations. Lets light candles for more victims.

Well, what had happened was....
The city didn't update the system when they needed to, SO, it got to the point where things couldn't get fixed. They finally updated, but, because the updates were not done for so long, they had to do them incrementally. You couldn't update it to today's point from where it was at before, without installing the other steps in between. That's why it took so long. It would be like going from 8th grade math to calculus without learning algebra, geometry, and trigonometry first. Just another example of our fine city being eons behind. How long did the old pdt's run on Windows 98?

Quick comp stat alert! Parking tickets discourage witnesses from participating in a homicide investigation... You sure it's not the over worked detectives who are too tired to go out and investigate? So it was the parking tickets... that's why folks keep shooting and the community stay quiet because of parking tickets. A human being gets killed and one who is upset over a parking ticket will help the killer go free by staying silent. Even a wildebeest comes to their community's aid when a lion attacks "their own". But for "some folks" NOPE! I got that ticket and I'm helping this killer get away! Yup it'sa parking violation notice issue for sure.
I have policed in impoverished black and hispanic areas my entire carreer. That said, I once visited the o.e.m.c building when I began my career. It was around noon and observed that the area of englewood,on this giant interactive map, was lit up with red dots signifying calls for service. I thought, that is a f-up neighborhood. After working there for many years I can tell you it is a f-up area but, my perspective on that map has changed. I realized that those were the majority of citizens that give a sh#t about what is happening where they live that were calling in to o.e.m.c The truth is, that behind closed doors the residents of englewood and all these other violent neighborhoods want us in l.e. to crackdown on this useles, small, and violent, population in their neighborhoods. I have had a decorated career due to these concerned people trapped in these violent areas giving me info on the shitbirds on their blocks. I have put some bad people away for some significant time on some good shit not because I'm some bad ass with some bullshit hunch/spidey sense but because for whatever reason, the good people of those areas were willing to share some intel with me and desperately wanted to get these urban terrorists locked up. Unfortunately, the blacks/Hispanics/whites trapped in these areas and us in the l.e. community share a common ailment namely, white bleeding heart liberals who do not have to live in these neighborhoods or put on a uniform to serve these areas. They are both destroying these neighborhoods and l.e. by enabling this small population (via the media) of savages to run amuck...my 2 cents
