Garry Costs Newark $250,000
- The city has agreed to settle a former police internal affairs officer lawsuit claiming she was retaliated against after defying orders from Director Garry McCarthy to punish three officers involved in a controversial murder case.
Capt. Inez Gonzalez and her attorneys will receive $250,000 to resolve the complaint against McCarthy, the city and its police department, according to a resolution approved by the City Council Dec. 2.
The 27-year-veteran filed the suit in February 2012, nine months after McCarthy left Newark to take over as superintendent of police in Chicago a position he was dismissed from last week after questions arose about his handling an officer's fatal shooting of a 17-year-old last year.
You'd think that these types of things would pop up in a background check. But then you realize they probably did, and Rahm figured it was just one more string that he could pull to keep someone in line.

McCarthy is a dick but before this is over we could really get screwed by some civilian being put in charge. O.W. Wilson was one of the best things that ever happened to this department. I don't think we could get that lucky again.

I am not a cop but respect and appreciate all you do to keep us safe and for the record I am black. I also want to say I CAN NOT STAND ole "snack eyes"; he is stealing and taxing our city blind. No one can blame a sea of good cops for one sociopath who wanted to shoot someone 16x. That guy was nuts. I can't speak for everyone but Rahm kept it a secret so that he could get re-elected a second term. We are being taxed to death, now having to pay for garbage pickup that fool wants to outsource 311 REALLY???? Will someone in India or China help? Where is all the money going? What happened to the millions designed by lottery sales for schools? Don't let me talk about that ugly slick willy Rauner. Where is the money going? All he and Rauner had to do is find a few ghetto preachers, pay them huge sums of money, give them a position on a board and those ghetto preachers got their ghetto members to put Rahm and Rauner in office. The rest of us, we are being taxed, speed lighted and having our jobs outsourced. You REALLY are appreciated by those of us with any sense and we appreciate all you do. As far as Rahm, please turn your backs on ole snake eyes; let him use some of his millions to keep him happy at night while the rest of us worry about outsourcing.
