Rahm better be keeping an eye on Springfield. Tom Dart is stirring up shit downstate:
- The shooting of Laquan McDonald has one state lawmaker suggesting it’s time for the Chicago Police Department to be “broken up” by putting it under the control of a different entity.
State Rep. LaShawn Ford thinks the office of the Cook County Sheriff should have a greater role in policing the city of Chicago, and possibly even “take over” the department.
Ford thinks putting the authority in the sheriff, an elected office, rather than another appointee of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, may help restore trust in law enforcement within the city.
LaShawn Ford is a moron of the highest order, so you know he didn't come up with this idea himself. So who figured out this crap for Ford? From a tipster:
- A week ago a source in the Sheriff's office spoke of Tom Dart contacting his old pals in the legislature to toss out the idea of him taking over the Chicago Police Department.. We taught it was so far fetched to even think of reporting it.
Well as it turns out, we should known better!!!
Tommy has fucked up the jail beyond all imagination what with his political machinations and cronyism. Lord knows what he'd do to a police department. Never underestimate the cravenness of a Cook County politician.

I would love to see someone like David Clarke (Milwaukee County Sheriff) come down and take over but remember - clout hires clout (skill-less minions and blind followers), never competence (nor leadership).

The Cook County Sheriffs Police is the most political law enforcement agency in the state. They're not hired based upon intellect, their hired based upon clout and politics. The Chicago Police Department has some problems I'll admit, but we hands down a better agency than the Sheriffs Police.......
I grew up with him and considered him a friend - FU$& you DART!!!! walk in my shoes for a week and you'd realize we got one of the toughest/stressful jobs in the world!!!!!

I increasingly think that Preckwinkle has a full court press on to grab control over the city. If her anointed candidate becomes State's Attorney look out. If she uses the Sheriff to grab policing in the city, look out. This City and County will look like Baltimore in very short order, and the real money will leave for less socialist pastures! So, what will Rahm's next play be? Does he have to wait out the BHO term and make a deal with the next administration before locking horns with Preckwinkle? All I really know is that County government used to a backwater to Chicago's, and now it's gone Godzilla, looking to eat up the city.

At the time I was hired, the entrance exam was a complete joke and there was no psychological testing conducted prior to being hired. The written test is a combination written/psychological exam. Nitwit comes on as a jail guard but doesn't make it to the County Police and now he wants to cry us a river.

THEN, he leaves the County, comes to CPD and HE ADMITS the CPD has "some problems"... Some "problems" as in he may be one of the malcontents!
Pick up any newspaper or watch any local or national news channel and see CPD and "some problems".

Who is your Chinaman??? You need a phone call to get on as a deputy and an even bigger phone call to get on Sheriffs Police.Its a totally closed shop.
06:34 hrs.- Your comment has historical basis. In the late 50's CPD had the Summerdale Precinct scandal on the NE side (now 020). The press dubbed it the "burglars in blue." At that time, there were fifty precincts which followed the ward boundaries. Each precinct was commanded by a Captain but in many parts it was really run by the Ward committeeman and/or the Aldercreature. The real Mayor Daley brought in a criminologist (and former Chief of the WitchitamKS Police) named O W Wilson to clean up the agency. Wilson immediately changed his title to Supt. & vacated the old Commissioner's Office in City Hall, motorized the dept & equipped the new squads with the now famous blue Mars light, dismantled the precincts into 22'districts headed by a Dist Cmdr who he appointed. And he nearly tripled the officer's salary with the understanding that taking a bribe was a thing of the past. Talk to old timers & they'll admit that Wilson brought needed changes to CPD. Once Wilson retired - the control of the dept. returned to City Hall.
Tom Dart is NOT an Orlando Winfield Wilson.
Better idea, disband Chicago as a corporation and just have the county. Rename the combined city/county Dartville or Peckerwinkleville.
Dart to run the CPD? We would be better off having the Forest Preserve Police in charge.

What good would fleeing to a Cook County Suburb if they to a Metro Model(never happen),even being close to Cook County would be bad.Yes Indiana is the option.
06:34 is correct. O W Wilson came into Chicago and shook things up. Mostly in a good way. If you were a working copper, you were OK. He did make a few mistakes, but for the most part he did real good. Took the department from the 1900's and made them an example for other departments. He did this because there was very little political influence. He had Daley by the shorts and used it.
If it was not for the politics, this department would be great.
Don't forget, every promotion has to be approved by the mayor. So it makes no difference how good you are.
No disrespect to the good Cook County Sheriffs, but when they were used by our suburban Dept in a pinch, they were worthless and did absolutely nothing but collect our money.
