No Positive ID

  • The alleged victim of an assault by Chicago police Cmdr. Glenn Evans was unable to identify Evans in a photo array conducted by authorities not long after the incident, Cook County prosecutors said Monday in court.

Rickey Williams also misidentified four other people who he alleged were involved in the 2013 incident in an abandoned house in the Park Manor neighborhood, said Assistant State's Attorney Lauren Freeman. He had selected all four of their photos, but none were at the scene, she said.

A fifth person misidentified by Williams was actually at the scene, according to Freeman.

The disclosure came Monday as Judge Diane Cannon dealt with last-minute issues in advance of Evans' trial scheduled for Dec. 8. He is charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct for allegedly shoving the barrel of his gun down Williams' throat and threatening to kill him.

Attorneys will return to court on the case Wednesday.

Evans has elected to let Cannon decide his fate in a bench trial.
If someone was sticking a gun in our mouth and threatening to taser the family jewels, you can be damn sure we'd be able to pick them out of a line up.

As someone pointed out, the media is making hay about the officer in the McDonald shooting having 18 complaints against him in 14 years, but Evans had nearly 40 over a shorter time span, over half involving Excessive Force, Illegal Searches and False Arrest, yet he has the support of a large segment of the community.

Looks like Anita has fucked up yet again. And it also looks like Martin Preib and his Crooked City blog, (who has been all over this case), are truly uncovering the unholy alliance of the media and the corrupt Innocence Project.

Hmmm...

It looks like Barb West, Jason "Biscuits n' Gravy" Ervin and some
underlings at IAD ought to be very concerned.

We're pretty sure Evans is thirsting for revenge.
As well he should...

I'm not a lawyer but it doesn't seem like there is grounds for a trial. Way to much monkey business going on with this case. It didn't seem like the "victim" had a whole lot of credibility to begin with and now it comes out that the prosecution knew early on that ge couldn't identify the PO s on the scene. WTF is going on in crook county?

If Commander Evans had cleaned his service weapon, none of this would have happened.

Having a bench trial before this judge is a smart move.

Anita resignation required now! Your a total failure, now you overcharged glen, with what evidence? A lie you went on? You overcharged Vandyke who should not be charged at all, when facts of the case are all revealed, but then again you will not be in office, maybe you could work for that pathetic people's law office! The 3 stooges had more reasonable abilities! Glen hope when you sue you get millions and your name restored! Remember the gold stars that threw you away your "friends?"

Once again, aside from Marty Preib, who else would uncover then get the truth out to the population... the offending media themselves? Fat chance.

Shame when an office this powerful, picks only certain people to prosecute based on who you know. Am I, correct Sandra ?

Ex-squeeze me but Commander Glenn Evans does not have a face that you'd easily forget. Especially if he has his gun barrel down your throat and is threatening to put a Taser on your gonads. His eyes alone scream, 'Don't You Dare Fuck With Me, Boy!'

So if this 'victim', Rickey Williams, couldn't ID the person who allegedly *terrorized* him -- forget the fact Williams couldn't ID the other cops allegedly involved -- how the hell can the state prove its case agaisnt Evans'??

From what's released to the public thus far -- DNA evidence -- it appears that the state can only prove Evans' Gun had contact with poor little Rickey but not How or When, or even who had the gun then. Which is kind of the whole point here, now isn't it.

Under normal circumstances I'd think the state would take the hit and drop the charges. But Anita hasn't exactly had a stellar week or so in the press (LOL), now has she. Considering that, she's kind of forced to proceed with this f--ked up non case now. And If I was Evans' attorney I'd be filing a gazillion motions now to dismiss all charges.

(Note to Libtard Troll: nothing derogatory is meant by the word 'Boy' at the end of the first paragraph. It's a figure of speech and that's all.)

Yes, the number of complaints that a police officer, of former police officer has will mean something only if you want to use it against them, otherwise, lets not mention it. If you look at the New Chief of Homeland Security for the County, look at Earnest Brown and the number of complaints filed against him. And, they are a bit more serious then those against Van Dyke. Hypocrites all. Selective outrage.

I hope Evans sues the shit out of the city, Anita Alvarez, ipra and the news. Honestly, the message must be sent. IPRA investigators already fired, one facing potential criminal charges for their railroading Evans. Screw this shitshow of a job.

If you work the bs will follow. Community members who knew him want him back. Cops want him back. They hung this guy due to political reasons. They will have to answer many questions for screwing with the wrong guy.

why is a patrolman(Preib) able to investigate, write, and uncover all of these wrong doings and the FOP sits on it's ass and does nothing? I don't understand the present leadership (if that is what you call it) of the FOP. Preib, who works on a beat is able to uncover wrongdoings and the FOP publishes a magazine filled with feel good articles that don't mean anything. Could one imagine what the FOP could accomplish with dedicated officers like Preip instead of the do nothing group that it is now consisting of. We need a FOP that is dedicated to men and woman who work the streets. The FOP totally sat on the sidelines on the Vandyke shooting. Yes, they did publish on it's website that Officers should contribute to a fund to bail out Vandyke. Why didn't the FOP put up bond money? FOP President Angelo stated that the FOP does not make bond for Police Officers. This case should have been an exception. We had a working Police Officer responding to a call for help over a man with a knife. The deceased was acting aggressively: he was armed with a deadly weapon, he used the deadly weapon, and was subsequently shot over his actions. The Officer was charged and what did the FOP do? Nothing. WHY? Do you think the Head of the New York City Police Union would have posted the Officer's bail? Why is Angelo so passive? Although she is a bitch and she is not our friend, I would have liked to see Angelo have the passion of School Teachers Union President K Lewis. I am sorry but it appears that Angelo is acting like a deer on the roadway blinded by a automobile's head lights. He is clueless and incompetent or as some have suggested, bought off. Either way he got to go.

Sure Gary had Evans' back, but never the backs of the rank and file. Gary is an elitist, who thinks the blue shirts are uncouth garbage to be disposed of regularly like common household kitchen trash.

The only thing they have are his own statements to use against him. Proof that you need to STFU when called into IA or IPRA. Dont give them anything to use against you. Casual chat with an investigator will be used as a "spontaneous utterance" exception to hear say rule.F them all. Its not a "code of silence", its your rights under the contract and the U.S. Constitution. Cops are citizens, too.

When David Koschman died as a result of being battered, detectives placed Vanecko in a lineup. Citing the failure of witnesses to positively identify Vanecko as the man who threw the punch, the states attorney's office declined to charge Vanecko.

Can Anita please explain her inconsistency in approving felony charges?
