Second Offer

  • The national hunt for a new Chicago Police superintendent raises a head-scratching question: Why would anyone want that job?

The search committee pitches the gig as a rare opportunity for an aspiring law enforcement dynamo to “heal, unite and protect us in these uncertain times,” as Chicago Police Board President Lori Lightfoot so eloquently put it.

But there’s just one problem with holding out hope that "help wanted" ad will actually lure a savior to secure a fairytale ending to Chicago's police misconduct horror story.

    Reality.
So once again, we offer our humble services as Supernintendo as outlined in this post almost a month ago.

Seriously, we are not unreasonable people. We bring so much more to the table than the previous two superintendents ever did or could. Our demands are not out-of-line and the salary requirements are far less than previous pretenders. We will even up our initial promised first-year savings from $15 million to $18 million - we're pretty sure Rahm needs every penny.

Our e-mail is open and available.

No one that comes in will be able to stem the tide of murders and shootings and no one will mend the shattered moral of the men and women. None of this can be accomplished in the next few years and probably not in the next decade if not the next generation. It looks glum from where I sit, but I could be wrong. Miracles have happened.Whoever takes the job will be under tremendous pressure from all sides.

Isn't it obvious that SOMEBODY with a bone to pick with CPD suddenly has the ear of somebody at dnaInfo?

Why, who ever could it be?
Might it be a bitter, disgruntled, vindictive EX-supe who promised Rahm he wouldn't make a peep, in exchange for a very nice job placement in the near future (but who found a devious way around that promise)?

No, never mind; that couldn't possibly be it.

The media is making bad people who do bad things look like they're innocent victims of police brutality.

It's a meaningless position with no real function other than playing figure head for the department. We already have gaggles of deputy chiefs, assistant deputies, and assistant deputy superintendents. Mayor dictates policy for entire department anyway. Plenty of bosses, don't need anymore

Call it for what it is; nobody will NEVER be satisfied, shootings are going up, and Emanuel will still play 'top cop' from his four walls in City Hall.

Let's let the public have input on the Superintendent? How about the likes of Alderbeasts Sawyer and Beale? How about looking at the rank and file that paid their dues, worked the districts and areas, came up through the ranks without merit promotions to move them along? How about someone local? Not beholding to any one ward committeeman? How about someone who was sworn before being promoted? Or maybe someone who's lived the life and not obliged to anything but the department and their members? Nah, never mind.

"Police misconduct horror story"? Is that some new TV show like "American Horror Story" or something?

What losers and cowards these so-called journalists are. So quick to criticize, yet they don't have the balls to do the job and show us neanderthals how it's done correctly. I would rather be among us, dysfunctional as we are, than among such bottom-feeding muck raking scum.

Cowards with no honor, no hope, no faith and no integrity, that's a "journalist" for you.

How about the fact the city is having a hard time finding citizens to take the up coming test. Nobody wants to work in the most dangerous city in the country without getting paid a mayors salary. The amount of risk police go through daily and being a target of most wack jobs. Not to mention the tight rope that the police have to walk on a daily basis. Who wants to read about a career that is bashed 24/7 in the news and by unfair media reporters! Name another occupation that if you stray into a gray area you can lose everything and possibly go to prison or get killed A! Police work is not black and white while trying to make judgement within seconds to do your job to the best of your ability! The police are not trained like a 300 Spartan who was trained and educated about their job from the age of 2. Most police came on the job after working other jobs truck driver, clerk, sales, ... A police officer gets five months of training and then throw into a world of shit that has now become your problem everyday, The police only see the worst of society day in and day out when they respond to their calls! Nobody calls the police to a birthday party for cake and coffee! Then after the police are done with their shift they take off their uniform to blend in with society until the next shift. However we're have been told from day one that you are really the police 24/7. I say if you want more people to sign up for the job give them mayors pay and even with that you still may have a tough time finding qualified candidates.

Only an egomaniac would consider the position. 1. Rahm is "wounded" (Sun-Times) and could walk away at any time. Especially if offered a Cabinet position with Biden Administration. 2. The City Council is finally grown some balls, the first time since the Council Wars back in the 80's. 3. Rahm, in the event he is able to stay, has absolutely No Chance of being re-elected! At this point anyone could beat him. So he will be gone at the latest, by the next election. So, who wants being Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department on their resume. Unless, it is someone at the end of their public career. Here is the opportunity for someone already retired, coming out of retirement. A civilian, possibly an academic, and of course Black. But what can such a person do, in an entrenched culture, that realizes they were here before him or her, and they will be here after that new Superintendent leaves. Whomever the appointment, he/she will not necessarily get the traditional Rubber Stamp Approval. Get comfortable, this is going to be very entertaining to watch. And the tough guy from Wilmette is going to have to really show his gang roots. A friend of mine says Rahm was a leader of a gang in Highland Park called the "El Rubens"! (Baby"G")

Does anyone know how many candidates have signed up for Police Officer Exam? I noticed that the cutoff date was extend about 6 more weeks.

So it doesn't sound like it is going too well.

Yep, heard the same thing on WBBM news radio while on the way to work. I hope these alder-fools enjoy the same bs ghetto complaints that we have dealt with for years. Officers were never protected from retaliatory complaints from people for being arrested, detained, or ticketed, so now they can see what it feels like when some ghetto rat gets pissed off and makes some crazy accusations for the hell of it. They should be sent to call back like the everyone else while being investigated!

The Mayors Committee to appoint a new Police Superintendent is a slopped together band of misfits themselves with no inkling of the scope of police administration. No Micael Clark or Joe Arpaio need apply.
The problems with this City were caused the weak policies of the elected officials.
Your next mayoral candidate doesn't want brown folks in jail.
The politicians bow to and appease their constituency and allow illegal activity to flourish.
The mayor won't stand up to gooty activists or storefront reverends, whom have no accomplishments to
boast. So how do they get to provide input on Supt. selection?
It's about the commotion they stir and votes they may represent.
The question should be " Who would want to be mayor of this city".
Besides being able to run the City into bankruptcy and soak up the "secret" personal economic gains.
There will always be some sucker willing to scrap the bottom of the Daley barrel.
I'm betting Rahm is leaving this city soon, maybe with a little help from the WH he'll be the new US Ambassador to Cuba.

Arnie Duncan raised his ugly head about running for mayor. Does he think we forgot how he destroyed the Chicago Public Schools and was soon caught at that restaurant having secret meetings with aldermen along with some congressmen and senators before going to work for Obama. We already took Obama's federal prosecutor, his former chief of staff and now the education czar wants to replace Rhambalina. You read it here first.
