So Where Should They Go?

Another brilliant bit of media butchery from the Sun Times:
  • Over the past 10 years, more than two dozen officers with multiple citizen complaints have been assigned to train recruits at the Chicago Police Department Education and Training Academy, records obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times show.

Out of a total of 460 officers assigned to the academy between 2005 and 2015 — most for just a few days or weeks — 40 percent of them had at least one citizen abuse complaint, often before they were assigned to the academy, the Sun-Times found.

One of them supervised a team of cops who went to prison for ripping off drug dealers, two served in the notorious Special Operations Section, and some were hit with complaints from citizens while they were teaching at the academy.
First of all, nearly every one of these complaints was subsequently found to be "Not Sustained" meaning no disciplinary action was forthcoming, same as something like 90% of all complaints against the police, a percentage that hasn't varied much over the years.

Second, were they really "instructing" or were they assigned to the Academy desk answering phones as most persons under investigation are until they're cleared or discharged? We're betting they were part of the rubber-gun squad, answering phones.

Third, what does the Sun Times desire that these people do? Sit at home and collect a check? There's a process that must be followed. Might as well get some function out of them, even if it's answering a phone (which we imagine, was one of the reasons they might have gotten additional complaints from citizens - being pissed off since they're on lock-down.)

In any event, another shallowly researched smear job for no apparent purpose.....while the bodies of their readers keep stacking up.

UPDATE: Some people have commented on what we missed - a sizable number of the people assigned to the Academy are re-treads, that is coming back from military Leaves of Absence, and it might be mere happenstance that they have a CR record that has nothing to do with anything. Did the Sun Times differential between Unit 124 (Academy Staff) and 045 (District Reinstatement)? Not in the article they didn't.

Why doesn't someone investigate the Sun-Times to see what caliber of journalists they have?

So tired of the "third-rate" Chicago Media evaluating other people on their jobs.

You know, it's been so long since I picked up a Chicago Tribune, I did not recognize how small it got. The SunTimes I sometimes see at a restaurant and am shocked at how thin it has gotten as well. (no ads???)

Both papers seem to have suffered from "lack of quality".

To be honest, I come here (to SCC) to read about what is "really" going on in Chicago.

And as for TV reporting? WGN for the weather. If they have an "important story" - I look to SCC to see what is written about it. I don't trust ANY of the local TV channels - especially when it comes to crime and political issues.

What, exactly, does "often" mean in this context? Half the time? A quarter of the time? So, MOST of the time, the so-called abuse complaint occurred AFTER these people were assigned to the training division?

And what does 'citizen abuse' mean? They YELLED at someone? They snickered? They wrote a supposedly undeserved citation?

And THIS is what pitifully passes for JOURNALISM now?

This is exactly why there needs to be more African American instructors at the Academy. White instructors can't relate to the issues that these recruits are going to deal with in the black community.

The problem is people think a complaint is an actual violation. Common practice is to lock someone up and is followed by a false complaint in hopes to get the officer suspended or fired. We call it the retaliatory complaint. If you are a working copper in any district, you are going to get them.

The only officers answering phones at the academy are the ones that sit at the front desk.
On days it's a limited duty officer.
On afternoons and midnights its a 012th dist officer.
There are a whole bunch of full duty females doing bs admin. jobs who are hiding out from working a beat car assigned there.
Most everyone else is in a teaching position.

This is not unit 124 it's 045 aka Returning Service Officers/RSO's. Most are officers returning from military service and some come from 376/"call back" once they are cleared. They never teach recruit, if anything they would be used as extras in scenerio based training. They are required to sit in recruit classes to complete a set list of training. Not sure there is a story here and certainly no scandal.

The media's pandering to certain demographics is going to end up biting them in the ass someday soon! Example: The liberal media was 100% behind the student protesters in Missouri until the students turned on them. Then, the media was outraged at the betrayal! The media thinks they are shielded from accusations & demands because they cater. Remember the old saying? "First they came for Jews, and I said nothing. Then, they came for..."

The Sun Time should research all the people who get complaints on police officers. They should look into the credibility of the complainants. You know like their criminal history or how many times they provided false information to police. Then they should see what the complaints were. Maybe a complaint was generated because a complainant was arrested and his/her car was seized or a complantant was arrested and his/her money was seized. Now the complainant is angry , so he/she makes up some bs to try to get the police officer in trouble. How about if the police executed a search warrant on a person who lives in a section 8 housing facility and a gun was recovered . Now the section 8 voucher that the complainant had and his/her free housing is in jeopardy of being lost due to the weapon being recovered. So, a bs complaint is taken and now the police officer looks bad. How about the Sun Times check and see if the complainant signed an affidavit and swears that the complaint being taken by them is truthful and if it is found to be false they will be arrested. Then check and see if the complainant refuses to sign said affidavit. The Sun Times should see how many complaints were generated by a third party. You know like someone who as arrested had their mom, girlfriend or aunt make the complaint , because the person arrested just wasn't credible. If you haven't figured it out by now in my rant ,anyone can complain on any police officer. The reason that the rate of discipline action against the police is so low is because of the few example I have provided. Stay fetal my friends it's the only way to conduct yourselves at this point and time.

That's why most people will not buy the hack job paper. We need to start looking at who advertises in their paper and start to boycott them. That will sure hurt the paper.

This is why the Contract was negotiated to in essence "Expunge" complaints after a specific time that were Not Sustained. The threat or fear that these unsubstantiated complaints would come back to haunt a career was a valid concern. However, now that every complaint, regardless of how absurd it may have been, is available to be judged and commented upon, by some inexperienced suburban law student or intern at the Scum-Times; the reputations and careers of officers are tarnished. On the bright side, every day that passes is one day closer to the demise of the Scum-Times, because people realize that it is a bias rag. Some of the best and most effective police officers that I have ever met in my 32 yr. career worked S.O.S.. To paint them with a brush and imply that the Unit was some evil entity is wrong. I hope the Scum-Times sends their Investigative Team to interview some of the complainants on these not sustained beefs. Take your time responding to the reporters calls begging for help. Baby "G"

Everyone that is not the police and hides behind a computer knows how to be the police correct? how about we put an alderman (lets take walter burnett for example jesse white guy convicted stick up man but expunged how convenient), he know how to handle a gun and team him up with reporters to cruise the mean streets of Chicago and respond west side style to calls bet the thugs would be really scared when he shows them his alderman enforcement badge (yes they all have gold alderman badges why?).

The black lies matter disease is spreading, the weather has been kind of cold what can we expect for the spring summer killing season? You keep tying the hands of police, will it be a "bloody, bloody summer?" The police brass (goldstar merit club waste) better get morale back soon but then again this is what the liberals want and if the black community does not want police it is required the will of the people remove them put the hard working officers on the west end of 008,016,022 where there are still taxpayers who are leaving in drives due to the high taxes and extreme violence from the black community spreading into their once safe neighborhoods!

I recall officers assigned to the academy getting complaints logged against them by recruits. Gym instructor getting a CR for spraying OC spray at recruit during OC spray training, which resulted in suspending OC spray training for several months (many recruits never experienced exposure to OC spray). Sgt and LT along with homeroom instructor getting CR/sexual harassment beef from homosexual recruit who quit, then later said he quit because he didn't feel like he fit in due to his sexual orientation. Homeroom Instructors getting CRs for going to their classes graduation parties (they were instructed/signed notice not to associate/fratinize with recuits).

How come the FOP , or even a CPD exempt with balls, don't explain to the police hating public and media that virtually any and every working copper is going to accumulate some CR#'s? Policing is not always consumer friendly and you're going to encounter some very disgruntled "cistomers".
The fact that an officer has racked up a few CR#'s does not necessarily indicate that they're a bad or problem officer.
Instead of focusing on the fact that an officer has accrued a CR# maybe they could run a story on how the overwhelming majority of CR#'s are bullshit? The majority of "complainants" refuse to sign the sworn affidavit..... yet the officer still has recorded a CR#.
I guess explaining that would go against their anti police agenda.

Clout always rule and there are phone calls every month to hide officers. Wait until DOJ does a closer inspection of the academy. Calloway does not have a clue how to run a training academy. I can guarantee that Skokie 100% supports us. There must be other factors to this stop. Skokie has given off duty PO's numerous courtesies so be careful what you say. Not everything is in the news article. That is like saying if it is on the internet then it must be true. The media is not our friend.

This is exactly why there needs to be more African American instructors at the Academy. White instructors can't relate to the issues that these recruits are going to deal with in the black community.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? we now have to police based on race? law is law. crime is crime. Please tell me the "issues" in the black community that apparently only back officers can handle. Lets just further expand the racial gap with this nonsense. I suspect you think sharia law should be practiced in islamic communities if we follow your logic.

OT: Cerone and Walsh aren't alloyed to even answer the phones or even log on to CLEAR or CHRIS but they can teach at the Academy? Unfortunately the arrogance displayed among them, Andrews and the rest of their ilk is not extraordinary and typical of many CPD bosses and politicians in this shit hole they helped create. They don't even have the decency to just sit quietly in whatever hole they put them and count their blessing that they are not in prison. Of course narcissism prevents them from self reflexion and taking any responsibility whatsoever about anything. And for people who support them, you have been duped and been the victims of a meticulously crafted campaign controlled by them.

"Easy. The car was a police demo, that he bought for under 50% of cost. It already had the lights when he got it. He is not accused of breaking any laws with it.

The officers suspected Saxton was a police impersonator and arrested him on charges of illegal use of flashing, oscillating or rotating lights — as well as driving on a suspended license.

Stop stuffing your maw with Hot Pockets, and try reading the post. He was arrested for Impersonating the Police Numbskull.

No stupid, why don't you read it. That was in 2007, before he was on the job. The guy is no doubt a rubber, but this shouldn't be on the front page of the Sun Times.

Actually, he was arrested for susp D/L, which was for emissions, on a car he had sold prior to the suspension, which is why it was tossed at court.
The ticket for the red lights was also tossed, because the lights were not in operation, just present (which was Not illegal...Numbscull!

As usual, hyperdrama in the headlines, but TRUTH & retractions appear on page 67.

You are retarded. You are not allowed to have such a car period. If I buy a sawed-off shotgun at 50% off, then that does not mean that I am allowed to carry it. The good discount does not make the item legal.

No cooper w/o any CR#'s should be working at the Academy. Any copper who is in the top 10% of a district gets a few numbers. And no cooper who is not in the top 10% should be teaching at the academy period.

PS CB#'s are activity not bus checks, parkers and contact cards.

I'm white and have been working as the police in black communities for 16 years. Trust me when I tell you that I know exactly what those recruits are going to be dealing with in the black community which is why my advice to them would be to resign now and find a more rewarding profession before it's too late.
