Isn't it about time for someone downtown to claim, "Crime is Down"? We're sure that's what is supposed to happen - it's right here in the script we've been following for four years now:
- Three men were killed and seven other people were wounded in Chicago on Thursday through early Friday as the number of shooting victims in the city passed 200 three weeks into the new year.
The tally so far is already higher than the totals for the entire month of January over each of the the last four years.
As of Friday, at least 202 people had been shot in the city this year, 34 of them fatally, according to data kept by the Chicago Tribune.
In January of 2015, 144 people were shot, 28 of them fatally, according to police statistics.
In January of 2014, 106 were shot, 20 fatally.
In January 2013, 190 were shot, 40 fatally.
And in January 2012, 167 were shot, 38 fatally.
And there's still a full week to go, along with some moderate temperatures.
Is 300 a possibility??

That is common law. Illinois has codified just like every other state. So we should DEMAND the responsible party be held accountable and support Bettie's family in bringing action against QUINTONIO'S estate! See what happens there? In the event the city makes the cowardly move and hands offender Quintonio family money they never see a dime.

Advise the citizens, if they need the police, to call 911, then have their call transferred to either the ACLU or the firm of Loevy and Loevy.....maybe they can respond and investigate; in the meantime, the PD stands down, takes reports, and waves to the public in a friendly manner (passing out palm cards with the phone numbers of the ACLU and Loevy and Loevy would be a plus)....
Crime is down that's why OEMC (Revrands patronage system) are unable or unwilling to answer 911 calls in a timely fashion. The end result victims become frustrated and hang up before the call is answered. The suburbs seem to be able to answer calls within seconds of your call.

Incident at the Hyatt is NOT something that leaves a warm feeling to go downtown for a Conference.
To me, the standard warning to all tourists and conventioneers - if you come, better pack some pistols.

Its important because if you become unable to work due to a non duty related cause, ie illness or accidental injury and you're still new enough to not be able to retire, it will (allegedly) provide you with income.

I do know that the fewer number of years you have on the job it is more beneficial to have it.
If you have to go on "Duty Disability" you receive 75% tax free of your yearly salary. You also keep your health insurance.
Where "long term disability insurance" comes into effect is if you go on "regular disability". Say you get cancer, you would receive 50% of what your salary is. The "L.T. Disability policy" picks up an extra percentage to get you up to about 10% more. (also note, you LOSE your city insurance if you go on regular disability)
You basically get 1 year of "regular disability" for every 4 years you have on the job. After that you would have to contact social security to see if you have enough "quarters" to go on SS Disability.
Everyone should go on the SS website to print out their statement and see if they have enough quarters.

As a retired PO, I have just don't give a damn how many ghetto fools kill each other. After years of scraping so many off the street. I just don't care anymore.
