More Money Spent

  • Chicago is getting another public trail, this time on the city's Lower West Side, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Sunday.

The path and promenade, to be called "Paseo," will stretch about four miles along a "largely abandoned BNSF Railway" between the Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods, according to a Sunday news release.

Emanuel joined city planners and aldermen Sunday afternoon to announce the project at Paseo Community Garden, 944 W. 21st St.
It's like a miracle he can find money constantly while pleading "broke" every time some other obligation comes up.

I know it ain't much but maybe the city should withhold the salaries of the aldercreatures and the mayor due to shortages in city funds and then to add insult to injury be unable to make pension contributions.

What is this with F@*king trails????

"The Paseo" ???

This is Chicago. An URBAN city. What are we doing with "Trails"?

Why not name it something that is more apt for its use?

"Urban Crime Path II" sounds more appropriate with the 606 Trail being "Urban Crime Path I".

Would be easier to identify where the crime is: "Suspect running down UCP II, south of 26th street".

In Chicago, stop naming things "Trails". It's dumb.

Yeah, the four mile walking trail will only cost 200 million dollars. 50 million for each mile. Don't worry though, this is considered an investment and property values will increase as a result. So will your property taxes.

If these "organizations" want monuments, let them fund them with a portion of their govmint grants.
The abandoned rail tracks should serve as a reminder of what became of this city and country with its Democrat policies.
What's next for the rest of the R/R lines, you know there's gotta be equality for a southside Path n' Promenade coming.

The world is seen as an abstraction by this crowd -- an artist's conception of people placidly wandering around looking at trees and "sculpture" -- and it's always a sunny summer day.

There is a limit to how many abandoned factories can be turned into "community centers" and "art galleries" and "performance spaces" -- empty of life most of the time, but still needing to be heated and lighted and maintained -- to support a small minority of people who spend their days looking for government grants. I think we have hit the saturation point with this kind of thing -- but the people who make their livings at this sort of thing will never admit it.

I always appreciated the city for what it was -- a stone-masoned railroad embankment had its own beauty, a monument to our former industrial might. (I believe that Joliet limestone has a lot of iron in it, so it weathers more to a tan. The Indiana stuff tends to stay gray.) Monarch butterflies flitting around the milkweed provided all the "street art" I ever wanted. Even those are disappearing now -- a huge mall parking lot is not the best of environments for them...

So someone paints "murals" all over an old building -- it still stands there, its empty windows and locked doors a silent reproach for the destruction of an entire way of life.

Took apart a 1957 Sears Kenmore electric space heater the other day -- oh, the quality, the heavy steel, all of it. I saved the heat-control slider, belongs in the Museum Of Modern Art in the industrial design section. Talk about styling. Today? Some Chinese-made plastic thing that actually stinks when you turn it on and you're lucky if it doesn't burn the house down.

Ah, what a city this used to be...

Bad reports from the Illinois Prairie Path out through Maywood (former Chicago Great Western right-of way.) About dawn is the best time to have a look, before they're awake. Crews of young men with no bicycles but plenty of hate.

...and to think that American Can Company used to have FOUR plants out there, and our Allied Radio manufactured its famous Knight-Kits and other products there. The Ovaltine factory was a bit farther west, I think.

Need to start a new thread on Rahm's visit to Cuba and now the head idiot in charge's visit. Interesting timing. This is the typical political snake in the grass back door bullshit that only serves to enrich the politicians. Hopefully it turns out like the Olympics did for Chicago insiders. Makes me chuckle to think how much money was lost by these assholes, and the guy in charge of keeping things honest who shoots himself by the river. If only all the politicians took that honorable path.

Look at what happened to the property owners along the 606 trail - vagrants, vagabonds, & other model citizens creating problems/crime. Then the taxes are increased for the gentrification it brought the area. And the park district won't patrol it since it closes st 2300hrs. But cyclists may still use it after 2300hrs. so they can still be robbed.

But no money for our pensions...

This...

But?

About 25 or 30 years ago, didn't a Copper kill
some shithead who was using a "peetbool"
as a weapon? There was the usual ghetto
crying, flopping, falling-out and accusations
civil rights violations...

>Pfffft!<

Let the shiny, happy progressives have these cute playgrounds
all for themselves.

Just sit back and enjoy the aftermath of their "cultural exchanges"
with the catered-to constituents lounging around up there.

The human equivalent of "Wild Kingdom"
when some critter gets snatched at the
edge of the water hole by a crocodile and dragged
away crying, kicking, flailing and shitting.

Respond.
Do the report.
Oversee the washdown.
Roll to the next one.

Well the Illinois Supreme Court has spoken again that the city of chicago cannot legislate or litigate its way out of its pension obligations. But we already knew that because this was the at laest 10th time the Illinois Supreme Court has ruled that pensions cannot be diminished. Some law firm got paid thousands of taxpayers dollars, probably for prior campaign contributions to Emmanuel or Daley, to again have the court hear this frivolous argument. It's called having fun and getting paid at the expense of others. You can rest assured if the city was a corporation run by shareholders these bad decisions would not be repeated. But since the city officials only have to answer to the shareholders once every four years they don't give a shit and spread our money around like confetti. It is time for a spending freeze. This city is big enough and has enough amenities. It's time to properly fund the police department budget and hire 2000 more officers to provide the basic service every civilized society demands, public safety. It's time to pay the pension obligations that Daley and Rahm have ignored because the Illinois Supreme Court just told you you can't litigate or legislate yourself out of this obligation that you caused to become a huge liability. STOP SPENDING NOW AND START PAYING YOUR DEBT.

Any adult that runs their household budget efficiently by paying their bills and not living above their means could run the finances of this city better than Emmanuel.
