Waaaaay back in January, we covered the coalition that is calling for a "no murder" day - Easter Sunday to be exact.
Waaaaay back in January, Chicago was in the midst of doubling the previous year's homicide totals, and it hasn't seemed to slow down yet.
We predicted the following:

- We will arbitrarily set the over/under for Easter Sunday at 5 wounded, 2 dead. Place your bets at the window. The line may be adjusted for the weather as 27 March approaches.
Sunday is predicted as "light rain" and about 46 degrees. On Tuesday, there were 2 killed and 5 wounded. Given those totals, we'll let the prediction stand.

You will get the overflow from Saturday night into Sunday early morning but so far this march has been much more tame than the past two months. Last year in March we had 35 murders. Heyjackass has 35 right now but that includes a couple that according to the FBI stats and cpd stats don't count as homicides which puts the city at 32 for the year. Unless there is a huge amount of murders for the rest of the month March won't be that bad. Also last year in April saw 55 murders, I can see us making a few up in April. I know everyone says that this summer is "gonna be a blood bath" but that is said every year and I believe with the way things have been in the past month it will be a quieter summer. i think we end the year about 550-590. I would bet my house on it.

That's almost exactly a 5 to 1 ratio, so my wager is 3 at room temperature, 15 wounded. (Seems low but this is just Sunday we are talking about, not the entire weekend).

years ago before I went into law enforcement I worked for the Chicago Daily News, which folded in March,1978, with the likes of real reporters(journalist are reporters without jobs!). People that had integrity like Mike Royko, a real people's reporter. Then I went into law enforcement. As you can tell by doing the math I've even been retired from law enforcement for more than a few years.
But we had newsroom "death pools" on celebrities, including some you would like to see dead, and even others, like John Wayne and the Pope. There were some that we left out like certain inner city "religious" people.
It seems like when we started one, the person somehow "died". Maybe we should have had one on certain revruns............just saying...........

A lot of innis and we know people and foljs cant stand being cooped up in an enclosed space. So im gonna say 10 dead 25 wounded.
Saturday is suppose to be the nicer of the two days temps near 60 and sunny. Unfortunately, the numbers will fall off significantly on Sunday due to the cold and rainy weather expected. I am gonna go with a weekend prediction(3 days) of 33 shot with 7 dead. As for Sunday alone, 5 shot, 1 dead.
In the early 80s Easter Sunday was "Color Day" so all the black and Mexican gangs would show up downtown to show off their gang colors and start fights in the movie theaters operating at the time showing the C grade karate films and two very good movies "The Warriors" and "Scarface". The mayhem would flow onto State St and Randolph and the bangers would start smashing windows and attacking the few touristas that were dum enough to come to Chicago then.
Jane Byrne put an end to the fun by closing the movie houses and turning State St into a mall.
Those were fun days in the police dept especially for the Gang Crime Guys and Tact Teams close to the 001 St Dist.

I think that is a suckers bet SCC due to the fact that you benefit from the early hours of a typical Saturday night in Chicago. A bolder proclamation would be 2 dead and whatever injured from 0400 Sunday to 0400 Monday.

No one is sure how many will retire yet.
Jim Ade says 55 sgts are at least 55 years old and MAXED out.
However, some will be soft enough not to leave.

well, looks like no murder sunday will be a sucess. there are 11 people shot so far since midnight sunday but none of them are serious or critical. all the day time shootings are lets, feet one or two in the back but all of them will be fine. only 2 hours left looks like the coalition got what they wanted, no murders. Im glad too, im not one of these trolls who sit in roll call who wish for death and a thousand murders.. I live in this city, will have to live here for at least another 10 years and I take pride in this city.. I grew up here. Most of the coppers calling for 1000 murders and chaos are the suburban transplants who arent actually from this city. they were born and raised in the burbs and dont get it... dont get it at all. they think they do but living in chicago is a far cry from living in naperville, schaumburg, orland park etc... good for the coalition and good for the city. 11 shot is still unacceptable in my eyes but hey, its spring in the ghetto what ya gonna do...
