100 Year Sentence

  • Donnell Flora rolled his wheelchair into a Cook County courtroom Monday, wearing a gray jailhouse jumpsuit and with a Bible resting in his lap.

Flora was paralyzed from the waist down in a shooting in 2010, an experience prosecutors argued should have given the 27-year-old the wisdom to counsel his teenage niece as her rivalry with another girl flared up into threats and violence.
The judge made some interesting comments during sentencing:
  • “There are no excuses or rationalization for giving a child a gun to take to a ridiculous fight about a boy,” Judge Thaddeus Wilson growled at Flora from the bench.

“Children in this city are dying by the hundreds because adults fail to and/or refuse to be adults.”
The ASA chimed in, too:
  • Noting that Flora had stepped into a role as surrogate dad to his niece after the girl’s father had been killed, Assistant State’s Attorney Athena Farmakis said Endia’s shooting represents a “total breakdown of the family hierarchy.”

“Many men who have injuries from a gunshot wound, they change themselves,” Assistant State’s Attorney Athena Farmakis said. “Donnell Flora made choices totally opposite that."
Golly. Family structure, personal responsibility. Who knew that there were so many Republicans on the bench and in the States Attorney's office?

Now start handing out these sentences every single day and you might see some real changes.

A very well deserved sentence. Hope it isn't reduced on appeal. Notice the shithead had a bible on his lap when he wheeled himself into the courtroom? What a tool!

Winners all. Thnx Judge Wilson and SA Framkis. An excellent job well done!! Hope all Judges and States Attorneys take heed...with evidence and proof beyond a shadow, mean business and lock 'em up. The law is to serve and protect the innocent not to go easy on perpetrators of egregious crimes to society.

I think this was the one where the gun jammed and someone else on the scene helpfully cleared it and then handed it back to the shooter.

"Flora was paralyzed from the waist down in a shooting in 2010...[then] had stepped into a role as surrogate dad to his niece after the girl’s father had been killed..."

The Great Wheel Of Death continues to revolve.

"Black Lives Matter." Could have fooled me.

So true SCC, so true. Why can't this be said by everyone from the rooftops?

BTW, been thinking. Chicago has been run by democrats for ever. Is it logical to suggest to all my liberal friends and neighbors than maybe, just maybe THAT might be part of the problem?

Miss Farmakis has already been disciplined for making these judgmental, racist statements from her position of white privilege. She will be removed soon.

100 years in the Cook County justice system means he'll be out on parole in about 15 years. He will not die in prison

I would bet in a few years SA Foxx will try and release this wayward offender, stating he is rehabilitated and ready to assimilate into society. And oh yah, the totally competent ASA Farmakis, who should be promoted, will probably be forced out.

Maybe it is just me, but when I was on the job on the south side, every dude in a wheel chair that I encountered was there because of a gun shot, and, they were still engaged in criminal behavior, selling drugs and carrying guns. It became routine to stop them and search them. We even had two tact guys who tossed a guy from his chair right into the back of a wagon and started a whole bunch of stuff which resulted in the city contracting with a van service to carry handicapped arrestees. Nothing seems to ever change in some communities.

This judge decided so because it was socially and politically acceptable, SCC. Don't make it seem any more virtuous and peogressive than it truly is.

No, no, no... it's the fault of the republicans around the city and nationwide. If not for them Chicago would finally be the non-violent haven it should be. Oh, and guns... it's because other states (with low homicide rates) let their citizens have GUNS(!) so of course Chicago can't solve its violence problem.

Yeah, probably more wheelchair ramps in prisons.

Other than that, there seems to be an increasing segment of the population that simply PAYS NO ATTENTION to warnings, judges, sentences, cameras everywhere -- hell, they proudly make their own murder videos and post them for the world to see.

It's obvious what needs to be done, but we are being forced the other way.

Expect an increase in the increase.

I predict it will be reduced. While I happen to agree with implementing mandatory minimums and making certain that felons serve at least 80% of their time (no time off for "good behavior"), this 100 year sentence is over kill unless I missed a point where this mope was also charged and convicted as "accessory to murder."

No, because there are other cities that have been run by Democrats forever that don't have these problems. But you're getting closer.

If you had a clue you would have named them, but you don't so you didn't. Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland and the rest have been run like a criminal machine. They stripped the cities of their taxpayers money under the guise of providing city services and stole most of it.

The Department of Justice should be looking at the politicians, not the police in these cities, but the politicians have cleverly diverted their efforts away from where the real crimes have been committed. I'm not saying the Republicans don't have their criminals too, because they do. What I am saying that the Democrats in some towns are out and out criminals, real organized crime.

The day the jury was being picked for this trial the judge threw out a gun case after saying he found the officers very creditable. Judge is known for leniency but glad he stepped up in the biggest case he has heard. Oh wait the jury convicted him and he couldn't through it out
