The UIC Police Department should be embarrassed for their lack of control last night. It's almost like the professors and administrators ordered their ofiicers to do nothing. There was no security or police assisting people with tickets as they tried to enter the Pavilion. Instead the protestors stood around and blocked the front doors without having tickets and were violent at the fron doors. UIC PD were in over their heads. It's not the job of CPD to help with ticket lines and entering the facility. Although the line to get in was over a three hour wait, the UIC PD and rented security officers never walked the long line to ensure the rights of those who wanted wanted to witness a presidential candidate give a speech was protected.
Remember with liberals, free speech is protected as long as it is THEIR speech. Screw everyone else is their mantra. If Trump supporters did this to a Clinton or Sanders, the media would have welcomed mass arrests and police beatings to Trump supporters. I was sitting in Sec. 102, Row 4. At about 18:20 they announced that the event was postponed. Hostile crazies from both sides present, but the Trump Crazies were cool, until that point. Secret Service pulled out and now Clout Heavy Monterey Security and UIC cops were in charge and they were in Way over their heads! Retired cops and some Off-duty cops who work UIC Security were restricted to outside, and that was a BIG MISTAKE! When UIC cops and 18 yr. old Monterey Security was overwhelmed, they moved CPD in, but it was getting out of control at that point. There was clearly a reluctance to arrest in the building.CPD moved crowd out and shit hit the fan! And using barricades on sidewalks caused people leaving to be restricted, so people started opening the barricades to flee area. I wasn't planning on voting for Trump but after last night I definitely will.
I was there with my kids. Once the cancellation was announced around 6:30pm, all hell broke loose. Security in the building appeared to be very limited (there seemed to be a few different agencies inside...CPD, secret service - decked out in black tactical, maybe state police plus building security). Probably about 8-10 cops on the floor where most of the protesters were located. Most cops were probably outside with the marchers.
These protesters were organized and paid for...BLM, Communist Party, Latinos, Muslims plus many Bernie supporting UIC students. It does not take long to go from relative calm to riot (about 3 seconds to be exact). Several fights broke out. There were cops escorting some of the most violent out.
We made it out of the building ok. But then we were trapped in a line of cars in the parking structure. Afterwards, I read that many rioters were beating on cars with fists and baseball bats. I was angry, but not scared for some reason, I think the adrenaline kicks in. I guess you want to maintain your wits and make sure your family stays safe.
I don't know if city hall gave the stand down orders or cops just don't want to get involved because their careers are on the line (or even for their own safety). Unless something is done to maintain peace during these violent protests, these lowlifes will become emboldened and it will get much worse. These Leftist idiots are protesting in cities that have been run by Democrats for the last 50+ years, yet somehow they blame Republicans. The chickens are coming home to roost.
The only good news is our kids saw first hand that the Left in this country is a violent group who do not believe in freedom of speech unless it is coming from their side. This was a private event, the protesters were welcome to protest outside in the public space. Once our kids are out of school, we will be moving out of this hellhole. The mayor and police chief should announce that they cannot maintain control of the city and warn any potential visitors or new businesses they risk their safety if they come here. In the meantime, for future events/rallies, we will drive out of town where anarchy is not tolerated.
We truly appreciate the work the police do, but things are out of control.

I was down there, off duty , to attend.I have NEVER in my 25+ years witnessed what I saw last night. Whoever is the boss who planned that event (*security wise) SHOULD BE DUMPED!! They allowed the protesters to mix with the supporters. I joined the line at Harrison and Morgan. It went north until congress parkway, then west until Racine, then south until the entrance.There were 5 coppers on Congress Pkwy and thats it. The entire 1000 foot length (Other than by the TV trucks for the last 100) was filled with groups of 10-15 protesters with their usual bullshit handwritten posters, taunted the crowd for two + hours. When I started southbound on racine it got worse. The large crowd of protesters, who years past had their own area, away from the supporters, walked across the street at Congress parkway and began their bullshit. About the same time the event was cancelled. I knew it was about to get worse. On the east side of Racine, from Congress parkway south until Harrison there were ZERO coppers. Again, protesters came into the line and mother fucked everyone, taunting some into fistfights. Still, there were like 2 PPO's behind the metal gates down the middle of Racine... thats it. Since the event was cancelled, I walked North on Racine to where I parked.. Here is the best. An Ambulance was trying to make it across Racine and the protesters blocked it. I then watched Commander Kilbeda and his 5 guys attempt to ASK people to move... They just ASKED. The Ambulance just sat there for 10 minutes. yes 10 Minutes with the siren wailing and no one moved. Only after some Granola eater in a beard came up and said "Let it through" did the people move. No police in turtle gear, no batons out , nothing. Everyone just watched. I was there on Cermak during NATO and whoever ran that knew their shit. We had more than enough manpower and it was utilized perfectly. This was a complete disgrace.
