Ink Us Up!!!

The FOP wins a gimme:
  • On May 21, 2015, the members from the Lodge as well as the Department attended a regularly scheduled Joint Uniform Committee meeting. It was at this meeting that the Lodge was informed the Department was planning to implement a brand new change in policy banning all visible tattoos. Although this issue was never discussed throughout during our Contact negotiation process, all of a sudden the City decided to drastically change the long-standing uniform policy. All attempts to address options fell on deaf ears and the Department was obvious in that they were not concerned with the Lodge representative’s input. The Department intention to just go forward with this new plan was never going to work for the FOP.

The Lodge saw this as a unilateral change to working conditions and we were not going to stand by and allow the Department to arbitrarily harm the affected Members. This matter was sent to final and binding arbitration and a hearing that was held on September 9, 2015 before Arbitrator Jacalyn J. Zimmerman.

We are extremely pleased to report that earlier this afternoon we were informed that the Lodge won the arbitration! As a matter of fact, Arbitrator Zimmerman accepted nearly all of our many arguments. She credited FOP First Vice-President Ray Casiano’s expert testimony concerning firearms safety in addressing the terms of how the changes to the Department policy could negatively affect our members’ ability to utilize their firearms.

    The Award reads as follows:

The grievance is sustained.  The Employer violated the agreement when it unilaterally implemented revisions to its Uniform and Property Order, U04-01, effective June 12, 2015, banning the display of visible tattoos.  The appropriate remedy is for the Department to rescind the revisions and restore the prior policy, rescind and make employees whole for any discipline issued pursuant to these revisions, and to make employees whole for their demonstrable losses resulting from compliance with the revisions.  The arbitrator will retain jurisdiction over this matter for a period of 60-days.

There are several other key players who need to be thanked and acknowledged for their cooperation during the arbitration proceedings, including testimony, enduring interviews, sacrificing personal time and demonstrating tireless dedication to making this wrong, right.

    Firstly, the SCC blog....
We may have added that last part. In any event, a triumph for logical thinking in that you can't hire under one set of rules, and then change the rules mid-stream. The officers affected were fine police officers on 20 May 2015. Nothing changed on 21 May 2015 except that an arrogant asshole browbeat the pussified exempt staff into yet another abdication of their leadership responsibility to the officers under their commend.

Nothing engenders trust and a sense of shared duty like ignorant unilateral actions by management.
Glad the FOP won this one.

Notice it still took over a year for the officers to receive justice. Expect your open minded, non discriminatory social justice democrat bosses to do their best to f--- over the police offeicers. That is the Chicago Way.

Has Rahm appealed the decision yet?

Great job FOP!
Meanwhile our pensions are being robbed, the media blames us over political scandals created by the mayor, our policies are controlled by the ACLU, and political hacks promote their buddies and lackeys to positions way above their heads. All while we are out getting our bodies busted up, shot, stabbed and (thankfully not here yet) killed. And we do this all while there is no ability to make movements to better districts/units with out having a phone call, minimal promoting/replacement of personnel, and outright threats from management for "activity" or else! Congratulations boys and girls, I hope it was worth the waste of resources!

yep one of them assholes is Mcfired. seems he ran into one of his officers at a local coffee shop.actually, mr arrogant was spotted in a local coffee shop( not a big one} and the officer not to be rude decides to acknowledge the rank and Sir ... only a true veteran( U.S. Marine- Semper Fi!!) . turns out the officer works at OCD ,so no need to be in uniform ,but had his vest on because he was working. McFired could've said something to the officer but instead the slimebag acknowledges the officer and no sooner that they parted ways McFired makes a call and the officer was written up for not covering up his ink( he has a sleeve of ink( for those that don't know that means he has ink from his wrist up. and if you're a Marine who has served our country, you can do what ever the hell you want, you served our country!! but nooooooooooooooooo, slime bag didn't have the balls to tell the officer something like " officer, nice to to meet you also god job out there stay safe, hey do me a favor can you cover up the ink" (since the order had already been thrown at us) but instead stab the officer in the back by calling on him to have him written up ..... McFired always was , has been and will forever be an Asshole... i'm gonna get some more ink my self now.... maybe i'll honor the SCC blog... whatcha think ?

The complete disregard for Contract by the alleged Democrat Party of the Working Class is a classic example of the Hypocrisy that is Rahmbalina and his Party. If these two are ever put under oath over the handling of the McDonald tape, there can be no doubt that the Bronx Bulldog will roll and give Rahmbalina up in a heartbeat! Baby"G"

Since 1980 every presidential election I get and wear a t shirt for the republican candidate. Before I wear it in chicago I have to get into a hostile mind set because total strangers come up to me in parking lots, at jewel , walking down the street, everywhere, and tell me I'm the problem with America, it's people like me who are ruining the country and they are mostly white yuppie types who point that finger - literally- at my chest while ranting- I'm 6 1 over 200 lbs and work out and carry a gun so I don't feel physically threatened , but it's interesting that they would come up to a perfect stranger and verbally assault me because of my t shirt. I'm old enough to have killed someone in my twenties, done 25 years and been let out, or I may be a mental off my meds or it could just be an asshole who likes to fight - they don't know who I am or that I am carrying a gun 100% in chicago even to go to the library. Here is the thing about tattoos much like most anything else in life, they are not for everyone but they are generally speaking harmless. You don't have to have them, and you sure as hell don't have to hate them. If you don't like them DON'T GET A TATTOO.

Making general statements about "bad" tattoos or "hillbillies" or any number of other slang derogatory bullshit just makes you an ignorant closed minded asshole.

I can take or leave tattoos within reason, I certainly believe in a sense of professionalism so the subject matter should not be blatantly offensive like gang or hate tattoos, or not able to be covered in a dress uniform or formal attire. However if you feel the need or interest to get a tattoo by all means knock your socks off. If you are foolish enough to put a tattoo on your neck or face or hands then you may have some repercussion of preconceived perceptions and or limitations. Many tattoo artists will not tattoo a face or force a person to really think about such a placement knowing the lasting impression it will leave.

Long sleeves are no big deal, hell if the department would have just relaxed the neck wear requirement during the short sleeve season it wouldn't have been a big deal at all.

This is a pretty small issue in this screwed up climate so it doesn't seem exciting but it sure doesn't need the hate.

Hopefully they can create a reasonable professional baseball hat and we can start to slowly move forward in a progressive fashion.

Came on with a HS diploma, made Sgt with the HS diploma.
Then in 1998 they throw in the 4 year degree requirement to make Lt and it flies.
Of course the Sgt Union was useless.
Oh well, maxed out & waiting to hit the magic 55!
Be safe!!!!

________________________________

The end result if the city is still interested in enforcing tattoo cover-up will be EVERYONE will wear long sleeves. Take it to the bank. That grievance will be a loser and short sleeves will no longer be authorized for anyone. Of course that possibility is only likely if the city still wants tats covered, if they do say good bye to short sleeves.

Look terrible ? There are bad tattoos and good tattoos. Good ones on the arm are fine. Not a fan of neck or hands though.
Many of us veterans have sleeves that are essentially memorials. In no way are tattoos unprofessional. ( minus racist ones, etc ). I have many friends that are the most professional yet violent men anyone will meet and they have plenty tattoos.
No police dept should make them cover them cause " it's unprofessional".
