Um, Bad Idea?
Would it be possible to just put up a sign saying, "Try your luck! Break some windows, win some prizes!" We mean, that's a shady neighborhood as it is - why attract attention to all sorts of unattended cars in an unfenced and poorly lit lot? We're seeing almost monthly notices of lug nuts being loosened on Department vehicles and on our personal cars while parked on Department property. What could possibly happen at Near North?

"Stupid is as stupid does"!
That sign has been up for years!
At least the spelling is correct.
No big deal. That has been on the sign for years.
Simple enough, just post a parking lot guard and patrol during training. Problem solved.
If everyone there chips in a few, could you get someone to patrol the lot?
If only you knew someone in the business?
Assholes did $3500 in damage to my car a few years back when I was park in 008
I spend a large amount of time on Larrabee during the winter months.
The project people from Hudson are too busy during the day hiding their cars from me.
Now the number of pickup trucks on the 1400/1500 block might need to change since I need to ramp up my game this year.
Tip hat,
Finance Guy on a bike.
This argument was had more than 10 years ago. The sign was put up when coppers were sent to TARA, and blew off work because "nothing on the building said CPD, so they didn't think it was the right place." I thought the sign was stupid, but truth to tell, it's been there ten years with no incidents.
That sign has been up for over 5 years. You think they would have cameras installed by now
I used to work in 018. We had regular special attentions there, requested by the staff. We caught someone one night scoping the cars out and when we asked for someone to sign a complaint..... The sgt said "not sure if I can, I'll have to call my boss". No court time allowed.
Go get 'em Finance Guy!
Hasn't been a shady neighborhood for years.
Why is there an active shooter program, when we have a SWAT team that won't go in? Guess regular blue shirts got to do SWAT's job.
I was detailed to that lot several months back for a few days while in the traffic unit to watch the personal vehicles. Can't say it is now but it was for the active shooter training back late last year.
I know a of two incidents where PO's got a pistol stolen from their cars. Side note, the land used to be occupied by brewery that owned by Bugs Moran.
Some guy's gun was taken from his car a few years back in that lot. The 3rd watch desk crew in 018 tried to blow him off when he attempted to report it. Don't ever leave anything in your car in that lot.
who cares, nothing will ever change
the sign doesnt bother me as much as what they are teaching inside. those that are trained are cheap form of swat and expected to do swat's duties are without the equipment or sufficient training. they expect you to stand in the "fatal funnel" the entire time without seeking limited sheilding and take bullets for the unarmed/unvested cfd. this is the cheap way at our expense. what is the purpose of swat now? Im not saying I wont go after the active shooter killing kids, but this training and plan is not the work of someone with knowledge or care for cpd/cfd.
there was a reason for the closing of that school ..Remember health issues if am correct
Hey I've been there, there's plenty of people hidden there doing nothing that should be walking to perimeter.
I want time instead of money. The contract says i can request
Time for o.t. This was just greived during Nato and i got my time. Did they forget? The union was misinformed when i inquired......any info?
Who cares? When I went in for training that sign was there. At first I thought how stupid. But what can we do? Nothing but bitch. So I choose not to bitch and just to accept things as they are.
Oh....the psychology of it all!
That sign has been up for years. It's not new.
No big deal. That has been on the sign for years.
That was then this now and it ain't like it used to be fo sure
Area 51!
DANGER! KEEP OUT!
Same thing!
That neighborhood has been gentrified. So, who's doing the mischief?
Why is this a story? Kind of weird who gives a shit. Broken windows good realty of training in the hood.
I'd settle for a fence around the lot. As for the active shooter training, what exactly are they training us to do? It's more like "protect cfd while they drag bodies" training. Absolutely nothing in that training has anything to do with active shooters. Every scenario starts with the active shooter being taken out before you enter. Simunitions training was actually useful. That was real active shooter training. This shit is a show for cfd so they feel safe going into situations involving active shooters. We all know they're not going in while there's an active shooter. We all know cfd isn't issuing vests. We all know we won't be standing around in a hallway if there's a shooter in the building, while cfd crouches over an injured person to treat them. Unrealistic, unnecessary, ineffective, and ridiculous "training." Someone is getting paid though, so good for them I guess.

I think you missed the point, champ. The comment about breaking windows was clearly about potential thieves breaking windows on the cars in the lot and/or the building to get some cool prizes.
Do they still have TARA there?
Boy are we in trouble.
Wow.
How many Instructors does it take to put up - "Short Bus Drop Off" ?
Why does CPD need an off site training facility. Can't they use the academy? Not like their hiring any po's. Plus the academy isn't condemned for asbestos
To think that building was used as a high school, but if not mistaken that building was full of asbestos which causes many life threatening diseases, but that's OK for police the "blue canaries" like many coppers dying from cancer working in the old stations and you expect the city or the "gold star club" to actually try to at least protect the officers vehicles, maybe build a fence like daley did and got the kickbacks they don't care get the hint!
That should be embarrassing the building is a dirty pit.....
Just park on the street next to the track with the rest of us construction workers. No problems in 2 months working IN the CHA buildings.
If a shitbird wanders through the unfenced lot and trips over one of the huge potholes or dips in the lot, maybe the lawsuit will force the city to put up a fence.

Have you been to the academy this year? There are around 250 recruits in the building. Then all of the in-service classes. Parking is a complete joke. Some days everyone will do anything to park by the academy, including double parking blocking others and parking on the sidewalks and grass. With new classes starting, the academy will be filled. But there is good news. After 35 years, the city finally decided to have a fire alarm system installed in the academy.
Condemned school , health hazard shit nest ...hey lets make it a police training center
Sign has been up for years. And second city, shady neighborhood? Have you been there lately? Check the home prices. Smh
Sign has been there for many years. Just seeing it now? Oh wait, blinders are now a uniform code ha
Just because the former Near North High School on Larrabee is filled with toxic mold and sinking into the ground doesn't mean announcing it as a CPD training site is a bad idea.
Shady neighborhood? You clearly don't get out much. And that sign has been there for many years.
