Gee, What Could it Be?
- Davon Barrett gathered at a home in West Englewood on Sunday to celebrate and remember. A friend had just gotten out of jail, and it was the birthday of his younger brother — who was slain seven years ago, according to family and police.
As he sat on the porch in the 2000 block of West 68th Place, someone fired shots from a vacant lot east of Damen Avenue shortly after 11 p.m., police said.
Barrett, 38, was hit in the head and died at the scene. Another man, 26, was hit in the chest and killed. Three others were wounded and taken to hospitals, where they were stabilized, according to police.
Police sources said some in the group on the porch may have returned fire. It was the third attack in a week in Chicago where four or more people were shot. Police reported no one in custody.
How many of those four were shot by the police again?
We don't recall anyone ever doing a scientific study on the propensity of certain neighborhoods to celebrate the birthday of someone who was killed in gang violence.
And the habits of those "celebrations" being marred by gunfire.
Not to mention the genetic disorder that causes certain families to have an unexplained attraction to lead.

Black on Black crime is like Islamic Jihad and terrorism. They are forbidden words and phrases which must never be spoken and must be erased from public memory, by government decree.

They will blame the police for not stoping the shooting. But the day before and I'm sure a week later they will blame the police for violating their rights. You see if the police familiar with the area stopped the shooter prior to the shooting just based on a "hunch" or their knowledge and experience they would be "violating his civil rights" and reviewed by the ACLU IPRA etc. We must follow the law and orders
That neighborhood CULTURE is fucked up, everyday shooting someone, half the time an innocent person (kids) get shot, kids can't even be kids because of the Culture in the neighborhood , the lack of respect for themselves and life, and parents only caring after their kids gets shot, over a 1000 shot this year, over 170 killed, last year was 2800 shot and 500 killed, and the politicians and the Revruns say the CUlture in CPD has to change? When my father died in 2002 we were going to bury him at St. Mary's Cemetery. They only spot available was along a litter strewn section against 87th Street. I looked at the names on the existing headstones, the empty Cheetos bags, and beer cans left in rembrance of the dear departed. Then I saw the empty shell casings. That was the extent of my scientific study that concluded that certain ethnic groups have a propensity to celebrate the untimely demise of a loved one with alcohol and guns. We found a nicer "neighborhood" at Holy Sepulchre where the only violence was between a bird and a squirrel arguing over an acorn.
Sounds more like a gathering of thugs, who got played like thugs.

I demand a Reverend Accountability Task Force to investigate the racist violence of their communities. They are terrorizing entire neighborhoods and costing millions of taxpayer dollars. The church-state conflict and support of gangs of murderers is offensive to the honest, hard working taxpayers.

You had to know that this would happen to appease the community. The city, which has a starting pay of $10 an hour for police officers ( yes it is true) fired both police officers involved in this shooting , even the driver of the car who did not fire a shot. He was blasted for pulling the car too close to Rice.
U forgot to mention his brother got shot Saturday night at 87th and Wood.

Just so you know, we all have sympathy for the truly innocent victims of the gang violence. It's our families affected by the shooting and the hard working people who do everything right, but can't get out of the gang areas.

Let me ease your pain there, Rich. Most "innocent bystanders" are not that innocent. We all feel for the children and others that get hit down the street, but everyone on that porch is part of the problem. Everyone in that car is a problem. Everyone standing with Ray Ray and Deshawaun in that park is a problem. They are drug customers, family, friends or other hangers on that give aid and comfort to the worst Chicago has to offer. Like the idiot dentist in the St. Valentines Day Massacre, don't waste your tears.
Without their support, the gangbangers would be treated like the pariahs they are.
