Can't Hire Police

Even in Texas, where the police are generally viewed more positively:
  • Dallas is an attractive city, and its skyline one of the best in the world.

But, apparently, it's not attractive when it comes to recruiting police officers.

"It's getting to the point that it's critical," said Mike Mata, vice president of the Dallas Police Association, as the department struggles to hire.

The last two academy classes have been canceled because there weren't enough applicants. News 8 has learned it may have to be canceled a third time.

"When you are getting recruit classes that you aren't able to get 10 recruits in there it's not financially workable to carry that class through," Mata said.
Pay is the big issue - the starting salary is barely $45,000 while surrounding jurisdictions offer $10-15,000 more.

But this is a national phenomenon that should be getting more attention - no one wants this job at any price apparently.

The Unscrupulous Pols and the Media that protects them needs to get on this crucial Band-Wagon. Persons need to get over that Blue Lives don't matter. Blue Lives form our very basic sense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Citizens must do what is necessary to promote those ideals and safe-guards. Get real country, we are in serious trouble. Lives matter.

Pay reasonable wages and they might get a few more recruits.

Or they could just hire all women and pay 77% of what the other cities pay. /jk

You will NEVER see this subject
broached in Chicago except on this blog.

Too many far reaching implications.
Too many hard, pointy and politically
inconvenient questions will demand answers
and there will be no room for a craven
shit-ass to flounce out of a side door
while a spokes-weasel serves up a skillfully
minced word salad as a diversion.

Policing.
Especially in Chicago...

It's a mean, nasty, thankless,
life-shortening, heart-breaking,
shit-doo-doo job to work for
a mean, nasty, thankless,
shit-doo-doo city and political
apparatus.

Have you not seen the vultures
circling Chicago over the last 20 years?

The last two mayoral administrations have
intentionally wrecked law enforcement in
this town to cover-up their malfeasance.

Notice how much the narrative fixates on
The Police "not getting it right" often
enough to please those who loudly opine
from the safety of the sidelines.

"If only you Cops would...
Then we wouldn't be so..."

People who are genuinely interested in
a L.E. career, are not as stupid as the
political powers wished they were.

This entire narrative centers on
"taking it to the Police."

When an entire agenda emanating from
the Oval Office, pushes a false-flag
operation of "Police Accountability"
that is nothing more than a stripping
away of administrative rights and due process
protections in an effort to appease, pander
and appeal to the cultural lowest denominator
that makes up the catered-to democratic voting
constituency in America's urban centers.

Why?

Because "The Police are The Problem."

"The Cops are too combative, aggressive
and too quick to assert their authority.
They should give people a chance to
show their frustration."

The problem seems to be a certain societal
sub-set demands to be loosed from the
standards of behavior dictated by greater
society because the societal sub-set nurses
an unquenchable array of grudges and grievances
against society as a whole.

No mention necessary of those who have
taken those grudges and grievances and
turned them into an industrial complex
that has reaped obscene profit in eye-watering
disproportion of their comparative numbers.

Translation:

They have to keep the false outrage hotted-up
against The Police or else the agenda leaves the rails.

Since The Police are the enemy?
It is only reasonable that they Police like they have no friends.

Save your "Good Policing" only for those who honestly deserve it.

The fools who scream "Save us from ourselves!" from the flames?

Let the flames have them.

"We don't need y'all comin' up in heah tellin' us how to do."

OK... Police yourselves then...

Dallas is a high cost of living city and a starting salary of $45k a year is not much. Dallas is also quite liberal and the city counsel probably doesn't want to spend much on their police force.

You don't want just any body. You want someone that WANTS to be the police. Those are the officers that make a difference. If you start getting people (and we do already) that want the job because it pays well, you are in for trouble.

Running toward gunfire, going into the dark building, standing between mom and dad on a domestic in front of kids, confronting the man with the knife on drugs that is terrorizing a neighborhood - all these things take guts and a conviction to see that things are put right.

Being a police officer, a good one, is a calling. Anyone on the job can tell you that.

Y'know, as a non cop (I won't use the term "Civilian") I wouldn't want to be a cop these days..
Shitty hours, fairly low pay, every single action under a microscope..by people who have the time to armchair quarterback.

Now, there are a lot a bad cops, sadly, and those cops give the many many good cops a bad name, so there is little or no respect for any actions you take. Especially in certain socioeconomic and racial demographics.

Which means good people are choosing other professions. Which is bad for our society, because we, as a society, need good cops. Policemen we can respect. Sadly over half the population hates the cops BECAUSE THEY TRY TO DO THEIR JOB. Especially in inner cities....

Is it any wonder the good cops would go to the communities that both pay more and have a better population that is easier and less dangerous to police?

it's an impossible job, made impossible by the unrealistic, ideological liberal. No human institution, if I may call it an institution, is perfect: not the Church, not the military - nothing - but they wish to impose perfect standards on police

it's unrealistic - as we all know

There will ALWAYS be people that will join police departments. That is not the problem.

The problem is getting the people that are fit to be the police actually become the police.

You can always fill an academy class. It is just a question of money (how high?)and standards(how low?).

The savings of a low salary can be false economy, quickly negated by one civil suit payout.

""Police Accountability"
that is nothing more than a stripping
away of administrative rights and due process
protections in an effort to appease, pander"

It is more sinister than than. It is a plan by the lawyers that make their living suing the police to make it easier to prevail and harder for cities and police to defend themselves. Thus making suing a no-lose (for plaintiffs) scenario. What the lawyers really want is an environment that is so toxic to the cities and police that they won't even think of going to trial. Like Baltimore. $6M settlement even tho the statutory max was ~$600K.

The offender is shot on Friday. Monday lawsuit is filed. Tuesday meet with City Council (revruns behind closed doors)Thursday pick up check.

I had applied to Dallas PD maybe 34 years ago, but I discovered by mail that I was automatically disqualified because of my eyesight (had to send in your prescription by an optometrist), even with corrective lenses. Maybe they've changed that by now???

Chicago does pay well...but we're also considered a 'shit' department. Those of who work here know that most of the problem is the political hacks that pose as leadership, and the multi-tiered levels of discipline.

But, if you're looking to get on the job here because it's your dream job, then this is s a great time to apply. There's not a pool of 30,000 competitors to contend with. The City must hire perhaps 1000 to 1400 in the next 2 years. Only about 10,000 took the written 2016 test of which maybe 800 will pass all the other elements to hiring. Another test will have to be given in short order (in police years...which are closer to Geologic time) to reach that goal. So, an applicant may get an extra shot or two of City hiring. Gone are the days of one test every 7 or 8 years, or even longer! Oh, and the pendulum is swinging back in favor of L.E. to the chagrin of the SJW's. Their shot at utopia has passed. 'Meet the New Boss.'

Those jobs eventually....just pay
Me more. I can exercise restraint too and let the guy have time too figure out how to do more bad before i use force.....just pay me all more because that creates a more dangerous situation for officers......still less expensive to pay me more than hiring new guys

It's not, Can't Hire.
It's Won't Hire.
Dallas wants its diversity. They don't want who is signing up.

– Washington Times:
[Dallas mayor ‘more fearful’ of white men than Syrian refugees]

“I am more fearful of large gatherings of young white men that come into schools, theaters and shoot people up, but we don’t isolate young white men on this issue,” Mr. Rawlings said..."

Keep in mind, like every place else, there's a quota system based on other factors besides true merit. That can be a significant chunk of the police force, and it is notoriously difficult to fill with police officers meeting standards - especially if the standards aren't being grossly violated (as in some places I will not name). This reminds me of the reputed "doctor shortage" - sure, after we reject half of all qualified white native-born males who apply to medical school, we end up with a doctor shortage.

Yup this is a phenomenon throughout the US. YouTube Colin Flaherty. He breaks it down so even kids can understand. This country has a long way to go before giving citizens the feeling of security. With 6 months left in his term the clown in the white house allows men to use the bathroom with our wives and children. Guess that was a urgent issue which needed much attention. He also tranfers 20 detainees from Cuba to the liberal destinations taking away many options to our intelligence agencies. Whatever happened with the federal probe into the Ferguson P.D.? LOL nothing! He sent white house clowns to Michael Brown's funeral. Who would want to be the police? Why would they sign up? And the 45k per year? After dues and taxes that's about 2 grand per month. Hell nah bruh

Look at how TX DPS forced the Trooper in the Sandra Bland suicide to resign. And now the local town council wants to rename the street where the initial traffic stop took place in her " honor " ! Probably the only pro police state is Alaska, and the media while probably erode that state's confidence in law enforcement.

Slightly O/T - SCC : Notice how the media gave kid glove treatment yesterday to the FBI after their HBT incident in Park Forest? Where was Mr. Dolt of the Tribune demanding an immediate statement & ID of the agent's involved? Last week in a similar incident in Chgo - the offender's family were saying that CPD SWAT didn't do enough to save perp even though they had the mother on a PA system begging for him to surrender.
Speedy recovery to the wounded Special Agents involved in the Park Forest shooting. Maybe the DOJ should ask them their opinion of dealing with these thugs.

Many candidates are failing the Power test simply due to the fingers slipping apart while doing sit-ups or their psych. exams because they have a relative who are police officers and the test takers do not like the idea of "tradition" on the CPD. Myself and hundreds like me had to go through it 3 years ago. We are either college graduates or formal military and all in excellent physical condition. We also have parents on the police department. A lot of prejudice going on just to get the police department. That's why no one wants to take the entrance exams. This is all true to fact. That's also bull shit.
