- An Uptown couple looking for a Marine Drive parking spot with two kids sleeping in the back seat were fired on by a shadowy figure who emerged from between two cars and started shooting.
There was no provocation from the couple, who sped away before checking on the kids in the back. No one was hurt, but the couple's car had a shattered driver's side window and two bullet holes, police said.
The couple — a 30-year-old man and 29-year-old woman — was searching for parking spot at 10 p.m. May 7 near Buttercup Park.
As they circled in the 4900 block of North McCutcheon Terrace, a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt stepped into the street and began firing at them.
Perfectly normal, right? Homeowners, taxpayers, get shot at just trying to park.

Unfortunately, it isn't worth having a place in the city without off-street parking.
I've only been retired for four months and already I'm looking for a non-Illinois domicile in a state with lower sales tax and no income tax. (On Thursday, we will fly south to house shop.)
It just isn't worth it to raise kids in this town anymore, and mine are young.
Don't do anything in the city unless you are required to. There are plenty of places outside of this violent city to enjoy family time. Warn others. There is no peace here.

What the F* is up with the stroke cop that refused to process an arrest on this? While I get that Finance Parking Enforcement Aides are not exactly the most loved people in this City, Id have bet a C note if someone pulled that stunt on a Cop or the City Clerk or a CDOT or Streets and San employee that was writing a ticket, the billy would have spent a few hours in lock up or at least gotten a "tune up" in the back alley.

In the old day's many-many copper' lived in the burbs and used a relatives address.

I know two guys who did it (one with a separation, one a divorce) and both ended up on the short end of the deal. Both wives found new men and both cpd got screwed out of their suburban homes.
A legal separation is NOT necessary to beat iad. Be smart. As long as you reside 'more than 50%' in the city, you're fine. Spend four nights a week in your shared (or basement) apartment here, and three out there. Have a utility bill or two in the city, register your car in the city, and for god's sake use the city address and info on your kids' emergency notifications at their schools or activities. (THEY need to live in the suburban district, not you, so don't screw that up, because it's one of the records iad checks.)
Don't tell your suburban neighbors 'shhhh, it's a secret', because one of them will out you, by accident or deliberately. Tell them the truth: "I live in the city, she and the kids live out here". When iad knocks on their door to ask about you, they will parrot that response - "HE lives in the city, she and the kids are the only ones who live here".
Trust me, I know VERY well how it's done. And I couldn't believe how stupid some people are, not covering their tracks when it's so easy to do.

My assumption, based on my knowledge and experience from actually being a cop and understanding the law, is that the victim of the crime did not want to sign complaints. Complaints are these funny little pieces of paper that are needed for court when you want to prosecute someone for a crime. A victim is supposed to tell us what happened, say they want the offender arrested, and sign complaints so they can go to court and testify against the offender. The police can't just decide to lock someone up for making a weak threat to a victim who doesn't want to pursue the criminal case. If you have no clue what actually happened, such as in this case, please leave your idiotic comments off this blog. Find your fellow ticket-writer and ask how it went down. Bad-mouthing the cops, who did nothing wrong based on what we know, serves no purpose other than to show your ignorance and prove that you're still upset that you can't be a cop. Sour grapes and all that. You certainly showed us who the stroke is.
And another fun fact for you:
Cops get threatened every day in this city, and almost none of the offenders get arrested or charged for it. I've been threatened maybe 500 times since taking this job, and not one person was ever arrested or charged with threatening me. Shitheads like to run their mouths when you stop them or arrest them. Many times, that involves a bunch of "take that badge and gun off and I bet I kick your ass" or "come to my hood on your day off and see what happens" or "bitch I'll knock yo ass out" or "take these cuffs off and I'll whoop you" or any number of other things that the tough guy in cuffs says to impress his friends or try to save face. Not one of them was actually planning on following up on those threats. It's simply not worth dealing with the empty threats of some butthurt shithead who's upset that he's been caught. He gets to sit there and run his mouth and he only gets charged with what he was originally being charged with. In other cases, such "threats" are simply ignored or laughed at as we drive away. A few guys even asked where I live so they can come to my house and fuck or kill my wife and kids. I told them they're welcome to try to find my house and they can hope I'm not there when they show up. You need to learn to not get your feelings hurt so easily. It'll make you a better cop someday(just kidding, we know that won't happen).
If none of that satisfied your idiotic curiosity, request a copy of the report and read the part about the victim not wishing to pursue charges yourself. I hope this helps you avoid posting stupid shit like this in the future.
