County Job Action?
- The Cook County Jail was placed on lockdown Sunday morning due to low staffing levels.
The lockdown is “for officer safety,” allowing inmates to move only for medical reasons, emergencies and visitation, according to an alert on the Cook County sheriff’s office website.
Inmates scheduled for discharge will also be processed.
“Regular divisional movement, programs and operations will be restored as soon as staffing levels reach the normal level,” the alert said.
Supposedly, this is tied into the recent Dart release of video he claims is "controversial," when in reality, even Anita Alvarez won't touch these videos because they show inmates attacking corrections officers and the resultant mayhem. Also, there have been numerous controversial firings by Dart's board - all reversed and reinstated with back pay. And this ties into the unfortunately high suicide rate of Cook County corrections officers that we touched on months ago. All in all, a very unhappy workplace and the officers are responding the only way they can.

Ch 7 News said it was due to Mother's Day and it usually happens on holidays, or if there's a big game on (Super Bowl, etc...), or bad weather. This seems more plausible to me than a job action, but if it is a job action, good for them.
Send all the prisoners to Guam. No walls, no cells, and no guards; if you can swim back to the U.S. mainland, then you are free.
I have heard from a reputable source that Dart does not attend any of his officers funerals. How does this guy get away with this crap.
Hey Dart the Fart - How the hell can you be fantasizing about leading a Metropolitan Police agency when you can't even provide safe working conditions in the jail? Pizza parties for those inmates who refrain from throwing excrement? Four DOC divisions shuttered and the supposed inmates being placed on meaningless electronic monitoring?

That jail is at the breaking point. Let me tell you. Mutiny at the bounty is coming. The guards are so fed up with the Sheriff's antics. I know people with 25 years leaving, cutting their pensions by 30% just get out. Believe me its just a horrible place to work. We have a gang that has taken over the jail called the Savage Life. They are responsible for most of the inmate and officers assaults. There is only about 50 of them and we have 3000 guards but Dart wont let us do our jobs. The biggest victims are the other inmates while the guards just watch the inmate assaults and do noting. No one gets involved with anything anymore because of the consequences. One officer had a nervous breakdown the other day when he pushed one of the savage life members off another inmate. He wasn't worried about the altercation, he was just brain fucked that OPR was going to screw him for touching an inmate even though he was breaking up an assault. I told him to do nothing next time and let the assault happen. Thats how crazy it is. Look at the videos released. Dart and his appointed board fired a guy who pushed another inmate back into line. The inmates know they can do what ever they want and are constantly provoking the officers. We had another inmate who beat the meat in front of a female staffer and the guard removed the guy from the room out of respect for the woman. He got suspended for 120 days cause OPR said the officer had no right to touch him cause masturbating was not unlawful. Dart throws pizza parties for the chronic masturbators. They once had to go 30 days without getting caught masturbating in front of female staff. One guy threw his body fluids at a female guard and was giving pizza one week later and told not to do it again. Dart wont last two more years because that place is about to go up for grabs.
Local 399 has donated over 50,000 to the great Sheriff. One of the board members who has nailed many good cops is the lawyer for 399 and uncle is a top aide to the great Sheriff. Remember that about 399 when one of those guys are asking for a break. No friend to the boys in blue.

I don't know where you get your info from, but 399 has helped many a copper that has stepped on their dicks and lost there jobs. So cite some facts
Does anyone recall that radio show Dart was about a year ago where he got excited about firing and harassing his employees. Said he could make their lives tricky by transferring them away from their homes if they didn't do what he wanted. Can anyone find that video. A lawyer representing a few fired officers wants to see it.

I have a very close relative who has been in County Jail a few times, and I must say, well deserved. But, we have talked about conditions inside the jail. He said in most parts, there is not a lot of violence, most of it occurring in the section on California Blvd. But, he did say that drugs are easy to come by . He did not know who was bringing them in and could not say if the guards are doing it. But, he did add that there is a lot of racism inside the jail against whites, especially by the female guards. I do not have much sympathy for this relative, but it is sad to hear that drugs are common and black guards are mean and racist.

One would be led to believe that less bodies to be responsible for = a whole lot less stress.

Sorry, gotta call BS on this one. No one gets fired for one push/shove case. There has gotta be some sort of history, with penalties assessed for those previous complaints sustained, in order to fire someone. No one gets shoved out the door for one minor incident. If you're not going to post the whole truth here, then don't bother posting. Cameras are in place, and the old ways just aren't gonna cut it anymore in the CCJ, Francis. We on the CPD end have come to that realization on the streets, so you guys better wake up and get with the new program too.

Believe it. Lately people with no history of Opr problems are facing termination by Opr investigators who watch videos that are at least two years old. They see officers use their forearm across the guys chest to hold him against the wall. They see it as a choke hold.even though the guys arm is no where near his neck. This is the past six months or so. So even you people who worked there prior and went elsewhere, shit changes real quick overnight. They are firing people by the dozens. All over the place. Courts,corrections and sheriff's police.

We all have complaints about our CPD, but compared to county this place is a godsend. I left the sheriff almost 16 years ago for here. We had a retired Skokie detective as our chief Our start to our day was him telling us how worthless we were. The Crook County Tariff Sheriff is the probably one of the most divided law enforcement organizations around. Those jail corrections officers are closer to prison then the inmates.

Empty two buildings and pack a third one full for efficiency, the count in #3 is going to be maxed out and just as crazy/stressful as before. Aside from the fact that you put 10 of some people in a building intended for 1,000 and they will make it just as hard.
Anyone not hooked up is on a complete reality float in there, doesn't know what's going to happen minute-by-minute. One cellie changes and a whole new pattern evolves to deal with.
There are those who scarcely notice that they're in there. Inside/outside pretty much the same. Noise, cement, running, fighting, screaming. Even have a lot of your same running buddies, just have to shout out.
It's like you gave Dart a Cape Buffalo on a little pink rhinestone poodle leash and told him to "make it heel and sit." Not gonna happen.
