Eddie's "Listening Tour"
- A news helicopter hovered overhead as Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson entered Hope Community Church on Wednesday, but the chief himself made little news.
The copter was circling the scene of a shooting at a convenience store about three blocks from the Austin church. A teenage boy was wounded, according to witnesses.
Johnson was on hand at Hope Community for a townhall meeting with Austin residents hosted by Rev. Steve Epting Sr. and County Board Member Richard Boykin.
Media members were not allowed inside the church for the two-hour meeting, which included a question-and-answer session that several residents said featured pointed questions for Johnson. His ascent to the head of the department comes after months of turmoil for the Chicago Police Department in the wake of the release of video of the Laquan McDonald shooting last November.
Seems like Eddie has a lot of answers....for certain questions that is. Still no word on how so many people who couldn't score in the top 25% of a sergeant test could suddenly score in the top 1% of a lieutenant test, unless they were part of a secret group that had access to information no one else did. Someone should look into that.
In any event, we hope the FOP was paying attention to this comment:
In any event, we hope the FOP was paying attention to this comment:
- Walter Gray said the rising violence and the issues of police accountability that have come to a head in the aftermath of the McDonald shooting leaves Johnson with much work to do. Gray, who has lived in Austin for 25 years, left Wednesday’s meeting unsure whether the new chief was up to the task.
“You can’t expect things to change just because they put a new cat in there,” Gray said. “I asked him about the officers that shot [McDonald], that lied about what was on the video, and the [police union] contract. “I told him you’re going to need to have the community involved when they negotiate a new union contract.”
So a whole bunch of busybodies are going to have their noses in business that they have zero ability and zero background in - kind of like they have in running their community.
Labels: contract stuff, new super

You should listen to these neighborhood experts.
They have made their neighborhoods into models for the nation.
They will definitely do the same for CPD.
"Man, I told dude dat Filmo and Maypole Streets gotta be left alone doing fot of July cause we is gonna have our annual street grandmaster Willie Lloyd picnic." A stellar citizen reported Eddie was presented with a demand from a street fraternal organization leader who stated various members were seeking cooperation from da 5-0 with allowing for more rocks and blows to be distributed before the recession happens again.
Was Eddie a subject matter expert? Did Eddie have to sign a disclaimer that no relatives or significant others would be taking the Lt's test.
Every superintendent leaves his mark on the department. Johnson wants to be remeber as the reformer who ended racism within the CPD, only one problem, racism isn't the problem it's the leadership.
If community members sit in on contract talks, kiss good-bye the Rights of officers during shooting incidents and C.R, investigations. Everything that was fought for over two decades will be diminished. The community wants a say in how our contract is negotiated but can't seem to raise their own children to be instilled with a moral compass. Only in a fucked up world is this even possible.
I called this way back when. I predicted that the "community" would want to be part of our next contract negotiations.
Rahm loves to pander to "the community" so I sadly could see Rahm allowing something as ridiculous as this.
The FOP has to be aware of this utter nonsense and be fully prepared to slap it down and deal with it.
Remember negotiations are a give and take ordeal..... if the "community" "demands" that we give stuff up then what is the city and the "community" giving us in return??
No matter who the top cop is; city hall runs the show and when the honeymoon is over, he will be made the scapegoat and hated by the department.
The bottom line is this: the moment McCarthy was made the SCAPEGOAT, shootings went crazy. Please don't deny this because the proof is in the numbers. Day in and day out; gangs are going off.
The one and only way to curb this is starting with the systemic issues; but City Hall keeps blowing this off just like they did with police reforms until the forced release of the McDonald video.
Its going take a high ranking or clout's family member caught in the cross fire before City Hall acts. And with the way bullets are flying, it's only just a matter of time.
Boy, I can only imagine what the DOJ must be thinking right now.

Kind of like Lt. M.S. of unit 111.
He was a less than 6yr wonder when he made Sgt and then Lt.
Yet, he is now working in the Sups office (Has been for a few years now) advising on how to be the police.
Hey Mark, remember you only wear that uniform.
You never actually Earned it!
Where is my neighborhood meeting with the superintendent? I didn't know only black neighborhoods have law enforcement and other city concerns. The way the city spends money and has meetings, You would think that the city gets all of its tax money from Gresham, Austin, Roseland, bronzville, and englewood.
I would have fallen asleep during that two hour meeting.
eddie johnsons just a puppet period
Why do black people in these troubled communities never think about fixing what's wrong with their own? Is it more game playing or do they truly not believe that they need to fix their culture of violence from within? Because nothing and no one can fix this. Only they as a people can change what they have become.
If they want a say in our contract I want a say in how long they can receive welfare benefits, I want drug testing to be a condition of receiving money for doing nothing. And if you are convicted of a crime you lose all benefits, and you can't stay with baby mama in her government subsidized crib either.
Walter Gray said the rising violence and the issues of police accountability that have come to a head in the aftermath of the McDonald shooting
Ah, accountability. Strange we should see that word in this article. I wonder if Mr.Gray understands that accountability is a two way street. Did they discuss the rise of black on black crime? Have they discussed the possible reasons that young blacks drop out of school and take up with gangs? Did they discuss that the black community should take to the streets and protest EVERY TIME a black person shoots and kills another black person and not just when one is shot and killed by a WHITE POLICE OFFICER?
Yeah right, include the public in working out the next police contract. Just what we need dope dealers and the Revs deciding our contract. Certainly glad I'm gone .
Eddie Johnson is the next Obama. Knows nothing and will do nothing except stir the pot.collect his big money and move akong. He won't last any longer then Rahm tour.
"Media members were not allowed inside the church for the two-hour meeting..."
"Safe space." For us, by us. Check yo' privilege. None of your business what goes on in there. Just pay for whatever we "demand" and keep your mouth shut. You are not capable of having a valid opinion.
"...if the "community" "demands" that we give stuff up then what is the city and the "community" giving us in return?"

Higher taxes, less freedom and peace of mind, a more unpleasant and dangerous city, and the opportunity to keep your mouth shut about it.

Doesn't the superintendent wear a body camera? Just rewind the video to see what happened inside.
Eddie's listening and rahm is losing control of Chicago talk about an absolute failure of leadership:
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/07/us/chicago-racial-divisions-survey.html?_r=0
But rahm keeps on with the lucas monument trying to get another 1.5 BILLION in taxpayers money to give to his friend (What will rahm get in the envelope back pocket?) then you have melody talking about this pos building, come on melody you want the black and brown kids (btw your a real racist), build that piece of garbage in englewood, or the west side where most of them live! Don't ruin our lakefront, i just sent friends of the parks a $100.00 donation anything to block the rahm monstrosity from being erected! Rahm=absolute failure! Eddie=deflationary wizard!
when will eddie do a listening tour of the districts and units? I wish eddie would go to every district and unit and listen to guys.
Screw the democrats. Enough already with all the pandering. Call it like you see it. The black on black violence is the problem people. NOT THE POLICE FOR GODSAKES!! The politicians are all assholes who pander for votes. Not one of them will come forward and tell the truth.
I have tried the argument mentioned a few times here, that the community should be more concerned with the violence and not be so quick to slam the police. I got no where. Black on black murder goes on at a record pace and has gone on at 8 to 10 times that of whites for decades. The response that I always get from liberals and the academics is that police violence ( their term, not mine) id different and has different standards and they must be more concerned about this. You can't win with these folks. You will see strong attempts in Springfield to overturn the police contracts by passing laws. The pressure to sign on to the legislation will be strong. No one cares about the hypocrisy of the alderman and the political class when they shout transparency and want to do away with anonymous complaints.
29 shot last night and I doubt they were white Irish Catholics.

The only person he will listen to is the mayor.
"Hibbity jibbity"...that is how one poster to this blog used to describe the senseless rhetoric that former First Deputy Dana Starks spoke at his meetings with "the community." He would just toss out misinformation as if it was fact. He once told the Defender that merit promotions were used by the CPD to promote more minorities, which, if true, was in violation of Federal law! And now it looks like Eddie Johnson is just the second coming of "Hibbity Jibbity."
And a listening tour? I'll bet he has been doing a lot of listening lately - to Nakia screaming that he had better get her out of the mess she is in with the cheating scandal.
