Cook County Kills Memphis Cop
Officers Verdell Smith lost his life this past weekend when a suspected shooter ran him down during a chase:
- Memphis Police Department released the name of the man they said is responsible for shooting three people and running over an officer in Downtown Memphis.
Police said Justin Welch, 21, shot three people and ran over Officer Verdell Smith late Saturday night.
Investigators said Welch shot two people at Westy’s on North Main Street, then shot an employee at Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid.
A chase ensued, but police lost track of the suspect’s vehicle near I-55. Officers filled the streets to search for the suspect.
Police said Welch drove to the area of Beale Street and Third Street, where his vehicle hit Officer Smith.
- A man with ties to the Chicago area has been charged with killing a police officer with a car in Memphis, and shooting three other men.
WREG-TV in Memphis reports 21-year-old Justin Welch has been charged with first degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Police said Welch stole a car from a gas station in Memphis, shot two men outside a bar and restaurant, then shot a bass pro shop employee in the store parking lot, and led officers on a chase. At some point, he crashed through a metal barricade, and ran over Memphis Police Officer Verdell Smith, killing him, according to police.

According to court records, in 2013, Welch pleaded guilty to one count of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Cook County, and was sentenced to two years’ probation. He later was charged with violating probation, but the case was dismissed.
Felony UUW is worth a couple of years in prison in 49 other states, but this jagoff landed probation. Then he violated probation and that charge was dismissed rather than him serving the sentence as originally handed down.
But Toni Prickwrinkle thinks there are too many criminals of color in jail. Dart goes along with this, empties the tiers and undercuts the staff at every turn. Anita goes along by not approving charges/prosecution. The Chief Judge acquiesces at every turn.
And Memphis PD pays the price. Eddie, you going to step up and use this cop as an example of the perils of lax sentencing?

It takes a lot to violate probation. I know. I have a family member that has been arrested four times and they still have not violated him. this family member does not work and is always high and is doing nothing with his life. I think the entire system is just a waste and is broken.

The corrupt Cook County Judicial System will remain silent.
Nobody will question the the States Attorney, the Chief Judge, the Sherriff, or God-forbid...the County Board President.
The County will not take responsibility for all or any deaths caused by their policies of early release and light sentencing.
The DOJ needs to be investigating these agencies for their Codes of Conduct and Silence.
The County should be held culpable for the deaths of many with their ill advised and biased patterns and practices.
The perils of sentencing notwithstanding; this case reiterates the fact that vehicles can be used as deadly weapons. Many officers have been killed or maimed by "unarmed" offenders behind the wheel of a 2 ton weapon. A University of Cincinnati officer has been fired and charged with murder after shooting and killing an unarmed honor student with approximately 90 prior arrests under his belt. The offender attempted to drive of while the officer was struggling with him who failed to comply with repeated commands to stop resisting and exit the vehicle.
Let's see the names of everyone involved from the ccsa to the judge that gave this POS probation.

Like probation being given for a violation of probation. The public should realize that they are victims with this legal malfeasance. People are not even close to being punished for their crimes. Most urban areas are like this, most urban areas are run by Democrats. It comes from the top down from Day 1 of the Obama Presidency.
People are actually punished for crimes outside of Cook County. Have a suspended DL-you're going to spend some time in jail. Get a DUI, you're going to jail, even if you plead to a lesser charge. My kid did 2 days time plus a hefty fine for open alcohol in a car down in Bloomington.
All of those mentioned officials are in violation of their oaths of office

I am at a loss , you see officer Smith was my husband partner riding 2 man car for several years. Officer Smith gave his life for strangers trying to get them out of the street as this mad man came their way.to think this man was to be in jail instead he was free on the streets shooting and killing innocent people! Just speachless!

How many politicians have a challenger running against them?
Maybe it's time to connect the dots and name names of all the people connected to the corrupt system of stealing government funds by not doing their elected jobs of representing the people! How many politicians are put in office for their criminal supported agendas. How many alderpeople, cook county employee, state employees have a debt to caucuses everywhere? This whole state needs a change!

Somehow this guy made it out alive, which is a shame. This incident is just a microcosm of the issues in the Windy City. With corruption being rampant at the top, it's not much of a leap to see a return to the gangland days of the 20's and 30's in the near future.
