Deadlier Weekend

Memorial Day weekend only tallied 6 dead, 68 wounded over three days.

This weekend is already up to 8 dead, 27 wounded in two days.

So the kill ratio is improving.

Scc are you aware a po's wife was robbed of her cell phone at Archer and New England on Saturday night. During the course of this robbery she was also stabbed. Four offenders involved 2 male Hispanics and 2 female Hispanics. Shortly before they robbed her they robbed another woman in the general vicinity, this victim did get a license plate number and all four offenders were taken into custody in the tenth district. None of these idiots lived in 008 they are from 26th St. The po's wife is doing well, but isn't it funny nothing about this mentioned by the liberal media. A great job by all officers involved, and a big thank you to those officers, you men and women in Blue are greatly appreciated by us in Garfield Ridge!!!!

POs wife was stabbed on the west end of 008 during a robbery on the street on Archer Ave. A group of roving animals, males and female Hispanics from little village tried to rob her and one stabbed her in the abdomen for resisting. Several offenders were arrested after they were found up on 23rd Street. Seems moments before trying to kill this officer's wife the same Hispanic crew came through and robbed another female about a block or two away and that victim got a plate. Good job by the coppers who tracked them down shortly after the robberies. No charges yet.

This is related to the CPD officers wife who was robbed and stabbed right by that shithole restaurant, the rats that work there refused security footage and any help! They have multiple garbage food trucks in the back everyday that sell their crappy food are the licenses up to date? Dept of health this restaurant needs an inspection and the food trucks also next! As far as eating there never have never will, there was an incident there about a month ago where young neighborhood girls went to eat at that pathetic place and had things stolen!

I don't know if this story is true or not, but when the place first opened years ago I was told to patronize it because it is owned by a cop. I gave it a try and the food was average at best. A few months later I give it a second try because everyone has an off night. The food was worse this time. I am a cop who lives in Garfield Ridge.

Whether it is owned by a cop or not, I can't believe any place wouldn't assist with the capture of scum robbing their potential customers and those who live in the community in which they do business. I hope it's not true.

You can also bet it won't be covered by the Southwest Chicago Post, an online Facebook rag that preaches about how it contains no fluff but rather honest, open reporting. In fact, they cover none of the crime in Garfield Ridge, including the shooting on 52nd and Moody last year. They like to lead people to believe that Garfield Ridge is still this bastion of hope in Chicago. And while it is still a decent neighborhood, all the 811 cars are constantly pulled to the east side of 8. 811 gets no response. Just like every decent neighborhood unless the aldermen scream and whine.

Get your concealed carry, be aware of your backdrop, and fire away at the POS who tries to rob you at knifepoint.

I'm very glad the victim is alive and hopefully recovering. God bless.

8th district police and citizens, assert control over your neighborhood before it's too late. Remember, Englewood used to be a nice neighborhood too. They have a Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch group that patrols and calls police if they see anything suspicious. A very good group of volunteers. Everyone should support them and if you don't want to "patrol" in a formal manner at least attend their meetings and also be vigilant.

And great job to the cops who caught the offenders and to the victim if she ID'd them in a show up.

Don't let the animals ruin one of the last nice neighborhoods.

6/06/2016 12:32:00 AM

Dear Blue Shirt - I used to take calls here and there, when I wasn't tied up on requests for a supervisor, cr's, infractions, filling my two-page logs, reviewing paperwork, chasing people for training and gun qualifications and nonpayment of City bills and ethics forms, responding to hospitals, dealing with iod's, doing medical roll checks for other units, making sure TRR's were done properly, requesting repairs, chatting up citizens (often talking them out of cr numbers or explaining police policy) and catering to my lieutenant and captain. Now, with video requirements and downloads and repairs, I have no idea how sergeants get it all done every day. I never had an issue catching a couple of calls a tour, but your sergeant's primary job isn't to be a blue shirt. I hope you get promoted. Everyone should have a chance to experience the joys of no longer being a blue shirt but not being management, either. You don't realize how much the sergeant does until you become the sergeant who has to do it. Not whining; I was fairly paid for what I did, but things necessarily change once you get the stripes and all the added bs responsibility.

Rookies would be absolutely amazed at the tons of fireworks set off in Westside ghetto intersections on Independence Day. The air would be choked with the smell of cheap sulfuric gunpowder and the streets littered ankle deep with the burnt remains. They were awed that these people didn't have shit but had money for all these fireworks.

The answer was that it was not the ordinary ghetto inhabitant spending that money. It was the local drug dealers putting on the show to keep their clients happy and close.

Hey Blue Shirt at 6/06/2016 12:32:00 AM.

I'm sure there are a few Sgts and Lts who are dogs just like there are POs who are, but I'm aware of many who do their share to "help you out." Even some who do paper too, so your insinuation that you're overworked and it's because your bosses aren't picking up your excess work is ridicules. Everyone has a job to do, and their focus isn't answering calls and doing paper, that's your job. The right thing for them to do is pick up some slack and help you out when they can, and some do, and they should, but for them to have to do your paper, or run job to job while some POs dog their job, stay down on paper, hide in the hole or sleep through their radio calls isn't going to happen. Their primary function is to supervise Police Officers, and for Lts to supervise both POs and Sgts. I'm not going to get into what all that entails, we all know, but they are supposed to both assist you since they are the police, and to monitor, guide, mentor and discipline you when necessary since they are a supervisor. No one cares about RAPS, if they do they should stop. The Sgt or Lt or Cmdr or Deputy etc, should relax and realize that RAPS are created by politicians and their refusal to adequately staff the Department. That is not your fault, not the fault of your Sgt or Lt. So just do your job and don't worry about your supervisors. Call them out if they pass up something important, but just answer your calls in a timely manner, write the paper your supposed to, clear from the job in a timely manner and do your best to save people, help people and capture and incarcerate bad guys.

From a boss who answers jobs and does paper when appropriate or necessary.

SCC, we should get an accurate count of the number of police officers on the job since Rahm became mayor and how many are there today.

That should be part of the BLOG billboard. Since the lamestream media steals from us anyway they may finally pick up on this story.

Those numbers should be made into a line graph, I am sure that it will show a steady downward trend. On that same graph show lines representing persons shot and persons murdered. Those lines would show a steady upward trend. That graph would be show cause and effect simple enough even an alderman could understand.

Hope I.C.E. is notified, and the entire family needs to be thoroughly investigated if illegally here remove the entire households immediately, also do their vehicles have proper licensing? The only way to fight the rats is to enforce all laws! The better part would of been dirt naps, but then they would be portrayed as the usual "honor students" OK now Eddie new strategy , now will be the time we can see how powerful the divided 23rd/14th/13th ward is! Do Burke,Zalewski,Quinn/Madigan and of course Lipinski have the power to put more police here? The 23rd ward was sliced and diced Archer ave has "the promise broken" no new business, no new development just lip service! Worse yet how about assigning 3-4 more beat cars, possibly a dedicated tact team! I remember back in the day we had a dedicated "Archer Av car 806D, that car worked 2000-0430 off Sunday-Monday it went up and down Archer from Central to Harlem what happened? O'Donnell hello can you understand? never thought I could say this but when Corliss and Schinker were commanders they took care of the west end with that 806D (Marked tact car), and 2 assigned tactical cars plus a power car guess our elected don't have the clout to protect 1 of the last bastions of taxpaying citizens!

Dear Members,

As I’m sure you’ve heard me say on more than one occasion, we are at a historic moment in our agency to rebuild public trust and promote transparency with the ultimate goal of making our city safer. Through stronger partnerships between CPD and the community, we can work together to hold the right people accountable for the violence they inflict in some of Chicago’s neighborhoods.

In order to face the tasks ahead of us, I would like to announce the following changes and additions to the Command Staff:

Anne Kirkpatrick will be joining CPD as Chief of the Bureau of Professional Standards. This newly created bureau will include Departmental education and training, compliance, research and development, and accountability. Anne’s primary responsibility will be to serve as the chief liaison with the U.S. Department of Justice to implement recommendations from the findings of their review as well as those from the Mayor’s Task Force on Police Accountability. She has an extensive and accomplished career in law enforcement, having served as the Chief of Police in Spokane, Washington and as Chief Deputy in the King’s County Sheriff’s Department in Washington state.

Charise Valente will be joining CPD as General Counsel. Charise has more than 20 years experience in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office with a concentration in gang, gun, and felony offenses. In 2015 she won the Crime Stoppers Award for Trial Excellence and is a two time winner of the U.S. Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhoods Award. She will be responsible for all functions under the Office of Legal Affairs and will serve as the Department’s chief counsel.

James Roussell will be transitioning into the role of Chief of Strategy and Operations for CPD. He has served the Department for over 30 years, having served as Chief of Staff, Commander of 024 and the Mobile Strike Force unit. Roussell also is a decorated veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He holds a PhD in Education and will be primarily responsible for crime control strategies as tactical and operations adviser to the Superintendent. He will also oversee the Crime Prevention and Information Center (CPIC), CompStat, and Deployment Operations Center (DOC).

Robert Boik will be joining CPD as Chief of Staff to the Superintendent. Robert has significant municipal experience, most recently serving as Chief of Staff to the CEO of Chicago Public Schools. As Chief of Staff, he will be responsible for legislative and intergovernmental affairs, special events, serve as chief interdepartmental liaison, and oversee administration of the Superintendent’s office.

Robin Robinson will be joining CPD as Special Adviser to the Superintendent for Community Affairs. Robin has been a familiar face in Chicago, having served as the anchor on Fox 32 News for over 25 years before joining WBBM Newsradio. Utilizing the trust she has built throughout the city during her career, she will serve as a Departmental spokesperson and be responsible for fostering stronger community faith and partnerships in Chicago’s neighborhoods.

It is no secret that as an agency, and as a city, we have many challenges before us. Through the combined efforts of those of us who are veterans to CPD, as well as those newest to our team, we can face these challenges head on. So let’s get to work.

Thank you and as always, stay safe.

Sincerely,

Eddie T. Johnson
Superintendent of Police

Sergeants and Field Lieutenants should handle radio assignments same as a 99 unit. They know how to do a crash report and code out a noise disturbance.....it would help to keep those 10-4 cars up to handle the hot jobs since they got rid of the rapid cars and we are currently in a manpower shortage. It would also help to quell the city wide backlogs. They are the police too and well paid police at that. This is a time for all hands on deck! And if they are not ordered too, it would show some character if they stepped up to the plate and helped us out.

Sure. No problem. While we are at it, let's have some financial ramifications for all those "who stay fetal" - start taking $ away. You wanna do nothing - fine - but let's pay you less. Duty availability for only those that work the street and are available. Extra pay for midnight officers. Not sure where you work but plenty of Sgts and Lt's handle jobs. Back logs are created by this dumb ass " mission based policing" and holding down cars on silly ass missions. That comes from above - was dumb then, even dumber now. Also- clear out 3/4 of narcotics and gang Intel units - kill 2 birds with one stone - free up extra beat cars and return all those take home cars that are not needed for buy bust teams. Clear out 35th St of useless dogs - Clean up the medical. We have a medical integrity unit. What do they do ? All kinds of ways to get all hands on deck.

Sgt.'s who do not know how to make someone who has a business license give up the video.
I know most patrol officer don't know a lick about a full blown license investigation and believe writing on a case report a license # will solve all.
Read up on the power of a police officer.
You can shut down a business
you can take someones kid
you can impound a vehicle or truck
you can even take someones life.

read up I know 008 is somewhat busy but NO EXCUSE on not getting video. And like i said writing a 1 liner that the owner did not give you everything is half ass specially when it involves police family.

Im guessing much more aggressive than you. You see, different positions have different responsibilities. Yes they are 9161, but the "perk" of working hard means they dont have to deal with paper jobs. They get to call for a beat car to do an accident. Dont be mad you are on a beat car. I really dont care if tac guys call in something and I have to go handle it. I accept the fact that one of my responsibilities on a beat car means that I handle paper jobs. Tac officers do not. Accept it and get over it. It doesnt mean they are better than you or are elite it just means thats what they get to do. They get to do the Civilain dress thing and run and gun. hey, let them do it. They are young and still care about that stuff. One day they will slow down and want to just relax like older guys which most of us who were workers back in the day are doing now. The guys who think they deserve the world, like yourself more than likely were never a worker but pretended and got sour at everyone at tac. dont hate the player, hate the game.

I'm not angry, I just see how it changes a coppers attitude and it is not good for the department. It places the watch officers against the tac officers and vice versa. The department only uses coppers for the department advantage. The powers that be do not give a shit about the morale of the department. The comradaree should be much better then it is. That old saying you used about don't hate the player hate the game is true, I hate the game not the player, but the problem is many of the players let it go to their head and it changes them for the worse. So, I am not angry at the player, just the game. The department knows that it is a game and they use it for their advantage. That is why morale in this department sucks. You say you have 18 years and you are on days, good for you, but how many young bucks do you know who have been on days their entire career and never did a f)*g thing on this job and still act entitled. I guess my major problem is how some cops feel they are more entitled then the next guy, and that is why this job sucks. Yes young guys are more aggressive, but the attitude does not have to go with it. I was a young guy once and I did not let it go to my head, I just did my job. The department should not treat tac as if they are elite because they start to believe it and they become entitled little bitches. Then when they get a few years under their belt, they become 2 face and backstab other coppers just to keep their spots. I been on tac over 16 years and I have seen the progression over and over it is a joke. I'm not sure if you will admit it but you know I am telling the truth. And before you start casting stones at me I have never back stabbed another copper just to keep my spot and I average over 100 arrests a year. Just fed up with the no timers being so entitled for no reason other then they work tact. The districts are short enough on man power there is no reason why a tac guy can't lend a hand and take a paper job when the watch is in a back log.

The coppers that came from 007 did nothing wrong and every copper would do the same thing, you are a complete liar if you say you wouldn't. Also, I have had many dealing with the new people form 007 and they all seem like good people, so stop the bs. Been in 012 for over 15 years and if I had a better offer I would jump on it, so leave the folks from 007 alone. Not to mention Kulbida is not as bad as you try to make him out to be, the department is just so short on manpower city wide that he has to make some tough choices to keep the cars manned. But, in all reality what has the commander done so bad to anybody in the 012 that he gets bashed so hard on this blog ? I haven't heard any thing so bad that it warrants the constant bashing on the blog. If I am missing something please fill me in.

Great Eddie you hired that police hating Robin Robinson, or was it Rahmn, just be truthful!! As far as that old lady from Spokane Washington to head IAD , that city got stuck paying millions of dollars in lawsuits, she was fired from every job she had.

He will also oversee the Crime Prevention and Information Center (CPIC), CompStat, and Deployment Operations Center (DOC)

I thought that's what Deputy Chief Caluris was doing

Unless an apology to all CPD members and a announcement that an investigation on Lt Exam has begun, any written or verbal announcements by Eddie, are useless!!! Shame on the merit hacks and cheaters, remember karma is a bitch

Supervisors relax. It will never happen where you have to do our job again. But
I did get some of your attention. Speak up for us and tell your bosses what we have been telling you for some time now....basically about the manpower mismanagement and lack 10-4 units to respond to hot jobs. There have been a few suggestions of where to get these extra bodies. Dont let this continue to fall on deaf ears. You are our chain of command. Make some noise for us and band with us to save the city this summer....

I left a review on Yelp for El Patron warning people about their refusal to hel police catch the people who stabbed and robbed a woman in front of their restaurant. I would advise others to do the same. Let people know what kind of an establishment they are and how they do not care about your safety.

How many victims were on Lewin's Strategic Subject List? Maybe he needs a few million dollars more to tweak the algorithm.

It says here he has been leading the effort since 2009 and thus far has spent $2 million on the SSL algorithm - http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/19/5419854/the-minority-report-this-computer-predicts-crime-but-is-it-racist

The DOJ should look into all the financial records to see where the $2 million actually went.

We do not need another scandal now. Do not look to see where Le win has been spending funds. Especially the grant funds not being spent for the intended projects. Or things like antivirus not being paid for. ?????

Tac doesn't take away the responsibilities of doing police work. I never understood the police calling the police to do police work??

Whatever thin hope there ever was of building more trust between the police and the citizenry was exploded when Rahm released all the police videos.

What will happen is that the lawyers that live to sue the police and cities will scour those videos and edit and narrate them in such a way and present them as "another controversial police shooting" to rile and inflame the public in an effort to get quick settlements.

And the low (or no) information public will eat it up and the police will be even more under siege.

Rahm should be impeached.
