Hahahahhaah, so long VRI. Finally the blood money has dried up and we don't have to listed to all the dogs talk about how they do nothing at VRI and make tons. I did my two days a month but at least I made it a point to write a few parkers, get an anov and maybe a mover or two. You guys realize why they cancelled it right? Activity. How can on a Saturday night all of south VRI bring in only 9 parkers total.. For the whole unit, 11 parkers. So to the mutts out there who are gonna complain about it just be happy we were all able to make a ton of money for as long as it lasted and you were able to do all zeros. Now they are going to strictly do voluntary VRE for the tac and area reams 7 days a week as an incentive to be on teams and work. That way they know they will have to bring in activity unlike VRI. I'm not on tac, but I have a feeling that those boys are about to start making a lot of money this summer

With the exception of Michigan Ave, VRI has only been in ghetto areas so to make it sound as if most districts would have VRI like opportunities is misleading.

It's going to be a battle between union and city over how seniority is determined. Citywide seniority or district seniority for the right to work 006, 007, 011 ect.

Judge Prentice Marshall controlled hiring and promotion, they had a program in effect where you worked in your District of assignment for your days off. Note: 1.Those were desperate times, when the City was acknowledging personnel shortages. 2. However, those were days when there was no contract, so you were paid Straight Time. The cost of such a program would be very expensive today at time and a half. Organizing a Summer Mobile Program would be much cheaper at Straight Time. Every District would simply be forced to "Detail" personnel. Whatever the case, it should be a Memorable Summer. Baby"G"

They are cutting out northside officers because their seniority is higher and they were taken all the OT days.
If you put it by districts you cut out the glut of old officers coming into districts they know nothing about.

The best way to do this would be to allow officers in each district to work in their own district on their day off. This way they know the district, the other officers and who the criminals are. Of course, this make too much sense so they'll do something different.

A new OT initiative will be in-district. There will be no activity requirement since that is a quota. It will be seniority based. You will be assigned to a "box" in the district as a team with a sgt and only respond to calls in that "box".
So, if they possibly hired back coppers to work in the districts with impact zones in the next incarnation of VRI/Safe City, etc., this might mean an enticement for officers to put in a PAR form to go to that district? SIGN ME UP! And pass me the very large glass of Kool Aid,too!

Certain sgts only pick their lap dogs even though other officers sign up. In 009 for example it's always the same people on midnights working the o.t. Just do a foia on that if you can. On 3rd watch same thing some guys get 1 day a month while others can work it everyday they are there, and when it's that individuals Friday they offer it to the other officers. So officer lap dog can work it his first 3days at work and on his Friday he chooses not to wor and then the certain Sgt offers it to the other minions.

My wife and I cleaned up big time working VRI. VRI was a blessing. We were pulling in an extra $2100 per month. We built a brand new deck, added a new luxry bathroom, a gourmet kitchen, paid off the cars and drew down our credit card debt. Maybe the city will start VRI again when they realize that VRI was not perfect but it served as a deterrent. Bring back VRI.

Has nothing to do with the activity bright guy. How many years did it last? Its all smoke an mirrors. They did it originally to put cops out there for visibility. Plus the main reason was to save money on not hiring new cops.
Think about this bright guy, if every cop working this did 5 parker, 5 movers, 5 anovs, look at how much money the cops had to bring in, IT PAID FOR THE OFFICERS SALARY FOR THE NIGHT!!!! So grab your thinking cap here son, if you paid for your own over time for the night of your vri, then the city does not have to hire new officers, no pension contributions, no benefits, this saved the city tons of money.
How much time do you have on the job? I have 23 and did not work vri. I am ok with my little house and 2014 honda. I do work CTA and can live off of that. Good luck to all.

This could really play into our hands. NO ONE should volunteer to work either day. Period if you volunteer to work YOU are PIMPING for the city.
The Justice department will most likely either recommend more hires or change our dispatch policy. If YOU work either day YOU are anti-union and a whore.
My district has a vri box so i guess i can get three days instead of two.Let the old timers enjoy a slow district and cta.
When VRI first started there were people doing work and making arrest. McCarthy got upset over this. He wanted the cars out there the whole 8 hours, give your arrest to a tact team.
VRI has worked in some areas. Look at the stats in these areas: 61 to 67 from King to Woodlawn. 75 to 79 Exchange to Yates. 55 to 59 Hamilton to Loomis.
The problem with VRI is that the hours don't cover enough time. It would probably make more sense to have 2 shifts of VRI.

I'm surprised that nonsense lasted as long as it did. I understand a guy or gal wanting to make some extra money. But paying two people time and a half of sit and do nothing in a car was a huge waste of money.
Actually the catholic schools are about to make a slight pickup in their enrollment. All the cps, state budget, teachers union nonsense is going to scare a few people away. Class sizes are already about 50pct higher than the catholic schools, with the budget cuts it will approach 100pct. Avg class size in catholic schools is 18-21, cps is 30 right now, legally they can go to 39. Good cps schools already ask for donations from parents for the extras. They will be asking for at least twice that now just to keep from getting out of control. 500 fee at lane tech, figure on a thousand next year. Same for grammar schools
Overtime in a District should be offered to coppers in that District. They are invested in the results and may actually do something for the men and women they work with.
So all you wiseguys boasting about your DVDs and Netflix movies while you are working, here you go.

Don't worry another plan is in place, this will be where it should of been in every district, but the real solution is academy open 24/7, pump out 3-4,000 more coppers less chiefs more Indians (Just an old saying not a slur). And tens of thousands to embed designs into pavement at some intersections. A one year moratorium on all expenditures except the most dire repairs should be put into place and the city should get income and outgo under control. This is all so offensive.

Like the department is to blame for that. Let's not forget that before there was a limit on VRI coppers were working every single day of furloughs on VRI. Yeah working 20-25 days everyday on VRI. If they weren't on furlough they were workin all 9 of their days off every period. And who's choice was that? The officers who VOLUNTARILY sign up and work it on every day off. It took the department to move and limit it to 4 days a month then down to 3 days a month to avoid burnout. Greedy coppers will sell their soul if given the chance.. Which many of you did. So it's not the departments fault, you morons with no life worked everyday for that almighty dollar.

O.T. Just wanted to bring to attention the blatant racism that is occurring during the hiring process down and academy for the power test to get hired. A friend of mine a F/2 in good shape did the run in 15 min 58 sec and kept track on her own stopwatch and when she finished they told her she failed at 16 min and 24 sec. And then she sees 3 F/1s (all in the same age group) finish after her and pass with no problem. This department and city are a fucking joke.
I hope VRI is over. All the dog ass bums who take 4 hours on reports in 012 and wait in the station just to jump on paper to get VRI activity deserve it. There was a beat that refused to take an in progress domestic call because they had to go home on a uniform adjustment to tie their shoe laces, and only waited in the station for the unit that eventually ended up with the job after two other beats declined the job because of some mystery stop to hold themselves down and jump on the paper. Can you top this? Please let me know. Liutenant was talking about shootings one day at roll call and when he was finished he asked if anyone had anything to add and this wonder boy raised his hand and said:" I need arrests for VRI so if anyone gets an arrest would you please put me on your paper". Can you believe it? Liutenant didn't seem to think it was a bad idea. Kill VRI! People in 012 go down on "reports" to work out. Keep screwing your fellow officers in 012.
VRI was not by design to be activity driven but to be a deterrent of violent crime. Plus, Not only do we get paid at time and a half, but we get paid time and a half for 10 hour days which is ALOT of money. So sure, go ahead and call names, be angry and all that other stuff but working in 005 I think we are entitled to a little perk considering 005 is the most depressing place in the world to work. Obviously math was not your strong point in school. We are in june, which is halfway through the year. If we were right on track for 1000 we would need 500 homicides so far. We have 267 homicides currently, which is not on track for 1000 its on track for about 534-575. go back to school dufus.

But those were the days when parents, teachers and Oooohhhh the Community cared. We had parents who cared, Teachers who could actually speak proper English...and teach it! We went onto different High Schools and most either went on to college,and some to the Military. Many went to Chicago State Teachers College....when the minimum to get in was much HIGHER than today!!!

Judge Prentice Marshall controlled hiring and promotion, they had a program in effect where you worked in your District of assignment for your days off. Note: 1.Those were desperate times, when the City was acknowledging personnel shortages. 2. However, those were days when there was no contract, so you were paid Straight Time. The cost of such a program would be very expensive today at time and a half. Organizing a Summer Mobile Program would be much cheaper at Straight Time. Every District would simply be forced to "Detail" personnel. Whatever the case, it should be a Memorable Summer. Baby"G"

To the best of my memory, Marshall only controlled promotions not hiring. In any event, the first contract came into being in 1980, and Marshall controlled things until around 1988, the exam scam year. He cost me a promotion or 2. We had special employment back in the 70's but I specifically recall it was not necessarily in unit of assignment. Special in the 80's may have been, but since the contract was in existence it would probably have been at time and a half.
Having a special employment program, even at time and a half, is still cheaper for the city than hiring additional manpower because of training, insurance and other employment perqs.

VRI was a huge waste of OT money anyway. Hopefully, the district overtime will work out much better, and have more

I've been saying hire more police...but if he doesn't, then in-district o.t. on r.d.o. or vacation will help. Rapid Power Cars could overlap shift change. Officers will be familiar with the territory since they already work there.
v.r.i. should be replaced with some strike force...but, since there is no manpower and guys with seniority will get the o.t. slot and not be productive...not that they should...but maybe, if they took half the guys in blue jeans report to a directed presence party...or D.P.P...(you heard it here first) then they will be thirsty enough to keep their blue jeans.
