Remember - Broke

  • Chicago is transforming a former industrial site into a 40-acre bike park that officials say will be the first of its kind in the Midwest.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Michael Kelly, the Chicago Park District’s superintendent, broke ground Saturday on the Bike Park at Big Marsh, which will be part of a 270-acre habitat restoration being built about 20 miles south of downtown, near Lake Calumet.
Contract season coming up. We certainly hope there's a folder of all the money this "broke" city is throwing around.

Truth be told that project has been in the works for some years. It was actually supposed to open last year. There's even pics of Gov Quinn on the website for Big Marsh giving a speech. So you know how long ago that was. It's a consortium of contributors and such who have pitched in for it. However, city or even the state shouldn't donate a dime. I'm all adopt riding but let the cycle groups fund it. Hell, I work in 004 and have NEVER seen the bike track being used they built at 87th and Mackinaw.

Why in the world is the mayor throwing money away ? Can we hold that prick accountable in court for bankrupting the city. I think the mayor should wear a body camera 24/7 and the 50 thieves

Many years ago I was walking down Fremont street in downtown Vegas when a guy came up to me and told me his wife was terribly sick and needed some medicine and then he asked if I could help
out and give him a few bucks. I told him that if I gave him money I knew he was going to run into a casino and put the money in a slot machine.
He responded by pointing to his pocket and saying
"Oh, I got gambling money"

This just goes to show that the genius level management skills of Mayor Rahm are wasted on a mere city. That man should at least the governor of a large state, like Texas or New York.

There is no easy way to get there except via the expressway.
And once there, it is surrounded by shit neighborhoods with ghetto rats to prey on the unsuspecting.

With everything else the city needs, how does a Bike Park become an overriding priority?????

Seriously, that would be an answer I would love to hear.

These fucking democrats wake up every morning thinking how they can spend 100 million on useless shit. Bike trail !! The sewer rats from the canal will love it.

These useless 100 million plus bike lanes are the biggest jokes. All for .0000001 percent of the population. Let the bike riders do what they did for 100 years, ride the bikes on the street.

Rahm and the idiot Midget always thinks there are million bike riders in the city like Beijing China. Uncle Joseph Stalin lives on in Rahm and Daley.

But wait 2 gunmen shooting on lakefront but liberal yuppies play tennis anyway:

>>> Rahm breaks ground on 40-acre bike park near Lake Calumet <<<

The whole 'Chicago Is Dead Broke' fact aside. I hate to be a party-pooper but riding a bicycle through 40 acres of a mosquito infested SWAMP is not my idea of how I'd like to spend a summer day.

Now what's that you leftist trolls say, this isn't a 'swamp' but a 'marsh'. Well, you poor public educated people, or folk. I direct you to the following definitions of what a 'Marsh' is: 'an area of low-lying land that is flooded in wet seasons or at high tide, and typically remains waterlogged at all times.' (Waterlogged at all times, yummy.)

And here are some synonyms for 'Marsh': swamp, bog, peat bog, muskeg, swampland, morass, mire, moor, quagmire, slough, fen, fenland, wetland, bayou'

Now I know that Rahm is on top of everything. After all, Tiny Dancer is the smartest mayor Chicago's ever had (now THAT is sarcasm kiddies), but I'd think that by now one of his 'News Reading Aides' would have clued him in on this whole Zika Virus thingy. You know, Zika, the latest neat disease spread by Mosquitoes!!

The way things are going in Chicago could Yellow Fever and Malaria be far behind?

ps: Calling a Swamp a Marsh is like calling a JUNGLE a 'Rain Forest'.
(btw, How can you have a forest of rain? That's always perplexed me. (/s))

A toxic wasteland re-developed by a connected group of "investors".
Yes, I will travel 20 miles south of downtown to have my kids enjoy a day of tuning their bicycle skills in hopes one day they will become wealthy bmx motocross superstars.
I wonder were the Pervert & Pissbum Pavillon, Down Low Court and Refugee Resettlement Camp will be located?
Remember it's for the kids, not the developers, construction companies or the suppliers.
Anthrax Island, too bad there there isn't enough room in that 270 acre site to plop down a presidential library, a fantasy museum and a dismal college basketball team stadium.
Meanwhile, way up here in the 41st Ward, I think I'll finally be getting a city tree planted in the parkway after 4 years.

You see the lower on the food chain an alderman is the cheaper the so called tax generator is.

SO south Chicago and hegwish and those other south side dumps have not mattered since Vryldolyack and Convict Al Sanchez of HDO fame.

So they got a crumby bike track instead of A CTA platform for trains.

How About Correcting The Mess You Made of Northerly Island, First. I used to ride my bike out there often, great path and views. Now The View of the Lake is Blocked by Gigantic Stones. Paths are torn up, or blocked off as impassible. The inland lake, fed by lake Michigan is eroding the entire island. Bottom Line; Be Very Careful of anything these politicians do. Let's not bring up Soldier Field. Let's not bring up those median strips, that due nothing but restrict traffic flow. Let's not bring up those bus shelters that block sidewalk traffic, and cause a drainage mess, in the winter. Let's not bring up.... Oh forget it, what's the use ?
PS: Pardon the Rant.
