It's the Press Conferences!

  • A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times and wounded in South Shore on Wednesday just blocks from where Chicago's top cop was talking about how police will crack down on violence this summer.

At 12:42 p.m., the teen was in the 2100 block of East 71st Street when he was shot in his stomach and left buttocks and his head was grazed by a bullet, said [...] a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The teen was taken to Comer Children's Hospital.

The teen was a documented gang member, police said. No further details were immediately available.

At the same time as the shooting, Police Supt. Eddie Johnson addressed reporters at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive, telling them a police Mobile Patrol will target violent areas during "peak" hours in a bid to reduce violence this summer.
And guess who noticed that people seem to get shot blocks away from where Eddie is speaking?
  • Last month, moments after the police superintendent finished another anti-violence press conference at Police Headquarters, a city 311 operator was shot and killed as she walked out of a Starbucks just blocks away.
At least Eddie didn't declare, "Gotta run" and hop into his SUV to be whisked away from the danger like J-Fled.

In the meantime, we'd hope that Lewin is adjusting his crime algorithm to account for press conferences tendency to attract violence. We really need more common sense laws regulating press conferences.

When all is said and done, I don't envy Eddie Johnson.

What does he really have to work with?? A clouted, skill-less, leadership infrastructure left over from two previous "losers" that reflects "who you know" instead of "what you know".

A rank-and-file force that for the most part has "retired-on-the-job".

Plus, how many white shirts (and blue shirts) are really loyal to Johnson? It's a cloutocracy, so they are more loyal to their Chinaman than they are the Supt.

"Eddie Johnson?" "Who cares about him? As long as I get mine."

A boss who is clueless (Daley was sharper than Rahm). A City Council that is a rubber-stamp to the clueless Mayor. (Clueless + rubber-stamp = More clueless)

Plus, outsiders who have more influence and demands than the City Council - Reverends, special interest groups, etc.

Plus, all the actual criminals you have to deal with in everyday Chicago.

No, I don't envy Johnson. He doesn't have much to work with.

Every time I see our leader talk I'm embarrassed. Can he go take a lecture class with all that money he makes? The lies just keep coming and the press are really believing the hype. We don't have the man power and when you put PO on bikes or foot patrol there is no activity being generated because we have no pdt or blackberry to run names because in a busy district you don't tie up the zone with name check and plate check. We might as well put up scare crows up on each street corner with a cpd uniform and give the illusion that we are out in full force hahahahaha

This theory will take several weeks to ponder upon and to study. However, SCC may, or may not, have come upon a unique to Chicago demi causation for random acts of gun violance.

It isn't the press conferences, it's that there are too damned many thugs out shooting at each other.
And half of them would be in jail if the States Attorneys and Judges did their jobs.
1600 people shot and it isn't even the second week of June.

This is why Chicago needs more shooting ranges. The punks need more practice. If they can shoot better, they will be more successful, and importantly they are less likely to kill innocent bystanders.

U. of Chicago has finally relented and agreed to provide a higher tier of trauma care for "the community." Funny - I was just at Comer yesterday with my husband and daughter; she's having a complicated surgery there this fall. As far as the length of her inpatient stay, the surgeon said that it might be longer if she gets bumped down the list due to a more critical case coming in - like a gangbanger who's just been shot. Nice.

You ever think EDDIE gets tired a new conferences say he HATE crime and that he has a new gimmick coming out soon?

EDDIE why not have all those great merit commanders start earning those take home cars they love so much. Put them in front of the media must of them are not people you put in anyway.

Put them front and center they do all have college right?

The more you are out at these daily massacres the more you look like you are lost at sea.
Take it from RAHM and only pop up when good new is happening.

Too fucking funny. I'm in a special functions unit and we were told to be a diversely park for the conference. Turns out that no one told us that it was changed to the south location and no one showed up. The mayor didn't feel like being driven that far north. Should have seen the look on sergeants face when he figured it out. Priceless. Oh well, hire back more people for the beaches. Lol

Enough is enough. We need **Common Sense** Press Conference Controls.

--- An Immediate Ban on 'Assault Microphones.'
--- An Immediate Ban on 'High Capacity Audio Cables.'
--- Federal Registration of anyone who wants to speak at a Press Conference.
--- A Five Day 'cooling off period' before anyone can speak at a Press Conference.
--- Last but not least, an FBI Background Check done just prior to a press conference on anyone scheduled to speak, and/or who may want to speak at the last moment. After all, you never know if they just said something that caused someone to go on a shooting spree. Words Kill dammit!

Innocent people are getting killed due to these unregulated Press Conferences so something must be done. These *Speech Loopholes* must be closed, Now!

71st & Clyde is a crap corner with the same thugs hanging out there all of the time. Not surprising. Maybe he could hold a press conference on the corner? Outdoor roll call kind of thing.
