Bad Timing Eddie
Time and time again, we've seen superintendents get on camera and brag about how they drove down some number, only to have it blow up in their faces. This weekend was no exception:
- Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson credited targeted arrests of gang members ahead of the Fourth of July weekend with the relatively small number of shootings and homicides during the holiday.
Addressing reporters at Washington Park on Monday evening, Johnson called the four-day total of 39 shooting incidents and three fatalities a sign of progress as his department tries to tamp down a surge in killings through the first half of the year.
That went up on the Sun Times site around 2200 hours on 04 July. The totals stood at 4 dead, 39 wounded (43 total shot.)
By the time the sun rose, 24 more people had gotten shot and the HeyJackass total was 5 dead, 62 wounded (67 total shot.) The late totals included two doubles, two triples and a quadruple. Why tempt the Fates like that? Every intelligent copper......oh wait.
Did the bangers make bail at Holiday court and headed back to the hood to take care of unfinished business? Did the gangs get word that, once again, downtown fucked up and paid overtime from 01 July thru 04 July, completely forgetting that the night of 04 July is actually 05 July for midnight cops and First Watches across the city were shorthanded...again?
By the way, for gambling purposes (toothpicks only!) the HeyJackass.com totals for our time restricted window (1700 Friday thru 2359 Monday) were 4 dead, 46 maimed (50 total shot). Settle up with your bookie.

Are you counting ex-clearances (where a crime is "solved" without the arrest of the offender for various reasons, i.e. refusal to charge by ASA, death of offender, etc) in the total? A real interesting number would be the conviction rate. Someone must have those numbers. Hey media ask Anita to look it up.

Face it. Johnson is in over his head. He just does not know what to do, but neither did many others. Times have changed. you can't send out the Task Force to hit the high crime spots and crush it. Those days are gone. You would need 5-7 thousand more cops on the streets of Chicago to tamp down violent crime and that surely will not happen. The progressives/liberals just do not believe in pro-active police work and nothing will change their minds. actually 81% chance (why give Rham the extra point), but of the murders "cleared" or solved for laymen, how many were by arrest? I would suspect over 50% were cleared by exception, meaning no charges approved by state in most cases and CPD closes the case. Of the number charged, can you imagine the conviction number in the future?? You have a better chance of winning the lottery than being convicted of murder in Chicago!
OT: Regarding FBI chief Comey; I think we've just seen a recommendation for going fetal from one of the top law dogs in the country.
What did he basically say? "Oh, yeah, I saw all kinds of illegal here, but it's not worth the trouble to get out of the car, since the jagoffs I work for won't have my back for a second on this."

Ugh! The news gets worse by the day...and it's getting mighty harder to feel sorry for any cops out there doing proactive police work. We threw everything we had left at the ghetto this July 4th weekend and the total violent crime numbers were still abysmal. With the FBI refusing to indict Hillary Clinton her presidency is a guarantee. Now we got two meatheads in Baton Rouge taser dude for selling CD's and refusing to comply, wrestle him to the ground and after seeing a gun shoot him dead at point-blank range. This would have been an acceptable use of force 10 years ago. Today the public and our justice system sees the dindus selling CD's as a victimless crime...same as fighting with the police or carrying a gun. If police work isn't dead in America ladies and gentlemen then it's on life support. The same could be said of the reputation of this department and Eddie Johnson. Our job is not to save this sinking ship...but just to survive.

I have been retired for over 10 years ( thank God). I don't know Johnson so I can't comment on him at all. However, I have seen some officers who worked for me make pretty high rank in the department since I left and they were police officers. I thought that they were decent people and good police officers, but certainly not the caliber to become chiefs and deputy chiefs, going up through the ranks all on merit appointments. Must be nice. By the way, I saw the campaign ribbons on Johnson. He looks like a South American general, but only one commendation. What in the hell are the rest of those ribbons for? Showing up on time? i remember when Dana Starks showed up one day with a mess of ribbons that he must have awarded to himself for he sure did not do any police work and all of those ribbons were obtained since he made exempt. Are things a little out of hand ere ?

Guy was apparently selling CDs, standing outside someone else's store, call came in "man with a gun, he threatened me."
Responding ofc. located offender, got him on the ground, when suddenly the shout "HE'S GOT A GUN!" and a few shots. Apparently gun was indeed found on offender.
More to come...you can bet on that. Justice Department already converging, calls for police chief to resign, etc.
There has to be one of these things going on a continuous basis now, or some people just aren't satisfied.

Not rumblings but true, the contract expires last day of June 2017, it will not be settled most likely, so hopefully the 55 and out can stay at least until more can take it! It your the copper who says
I'm making overtime" so i will stay realize you must minus your pension amount you would receive while you let that money sit as others enjoy taking their extremely well deserved pensions!
