Quick Action

  • The end of a busy shift approached.

Three people had been killed in two hours in the Harrison District on the West Side on Monday night. Sgt. Bryan Topczewski left the scene of the second homicide and was headed back to the station, an easy ride down Jackson Boulevard east toward Kedzie Avenue.

[...] As he approached Independence Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m., a dispatcher calmly read out a new job: “All right units in 011 ... now getting a person shot at 39-45 Polk, 3-9-4-5 Polk, cellphone caller says her child’s been shot with no further information, 11th District.”
The sergeant was able to slow the bleeding until paramedics arrived and got the kid to the hospital. Quick thinking and quicker action. Excellent job.

Sadly, the best you can do sometimes is just slow the bleeding.

Until Chicago gets new leadership, the best we can do is just slow the bleeding.
Chicago is dying, you know, I know it, but the Chicago Machine doesn't care.
As long as there is money to be skimmed, and graft to taken, the machine will keep grinding.
It will never grind to a halt until Chicagoans elect better government, or we become Detroit.

Good job TOPPER, you learned well while in MSF, too bad the department still has thier heads up inside thier asses. It has been proven that these types of units work. Yes maybe a little heavy handed but Mc Cathy made a big mistake in dumping thus unit and TRU. Maybe if they brought the department up to the past manpower the city would once again be civilized.

No.

They will shoot another little kid tonight, though. Or his grandpa watching him play.

We care, they don't -- no matter what their "spokesmen" claim.

The block reclaims its own. No one here gets out alive.

The article quoted the Sergeant as saying he was "doing his job". Which he did, and did well. But he also took time to visit the little boy in the hospital to see how he was doing.

So, yes, he is a good cop. But also a good man.

Thanks, Sgt.

Hey Bryan -

1st time we met, you were busy rescuing a pup named Brando from a pack of Rottweilers.

11 years later, you're out there in the battlefield saving children - outstanding job!

God bless the Police.

PI Ken
