Send us the Schedules

Manpower up north this weekend left a lot to chance:
  • OT: Today (13AUG), 016 has 3 beat cars up. All the rest are downed or assigned to the parade.

  • Anonymous said...

There are a total of 3 cars and 2 sargents up in 016 today. 5 cars a up in 017. Where is the outrage? Some of the highest tax paying areas of the city getting no police presence or service. And this will only get worse as retirements continue. Mayor doesn't give 2 shits about police or tax paying citizens. Where is the union on this. God damn joke!
This is beyond ridiculous. And it's beyond a safety issue.

Send us the schedules for the day with all the down cars and we'll post em after removing the names and star numbers. If you can, take a snapshot of the "USM" screen that shows which beat cars are down all night and we'll post those, too.

If you live in the tax paying sections of town, get your FOID, Carry Permit, and start practicing.

You and yours are on your own, unless you live next to the alderthief, or one of the "Gentlemen of the Machine."

Police resources, cars and bodies are moved to the places that need them the most. NOT to the areas that pay the highest taxes. The well to do can afford to hire their own security if they feel they need it, or they can protect their property themselves for a little while. It is time some little people and people of color got some protection.

Believe me, we're pretty fucking outraged. Car theft, tire stealing, robberies are out the window up here. Neighbor in Logan witnessed bangers exchanging guns in their parking lot and they left a car illegally parked. Called CPD 7 times and no one showed up all day. To put it bluntly, fuck this noise.

It's the Bizzaro World we live in. Wrong is now Right and Right is now Wrong. Good is now Bad and Bad is now Good. The neighborhoods that pay all the bills get the least amount of service and the neighborhoods that skip out on the bill get all the resources. In 10 years of living in EP I've maybe seen a beat car go down my block once. Sounds perfectly logical to me.

It's a safety issue for officers and for the citizens. When you have 3 cars or even 5 or 6 to handle an entire district, what happens when there's no cars available? What happens when a citizen needs the police, and no one is available to help? They wait, sometimes for hours, thinking the police will show up soon. No one is coming. Not for a while. What happens when an officer is trying to arrest someone who wants to fight and there are no available assist cars? Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed, all because the city chooses to devote the majority of its manpower to crime-ridden shitholes where it won't change a damn thing. People are dying, getting robbed, getting beaten, etc., in the typically "slower" districts, all because there are no police to protect them. The few cars that are actually on the street are tied up with backlogs, sitting on crime scenes, processing arrestees, and running from one end of the district to the other for an entire tour, all because there simply aren't enough police to handle the volume of calls. No one is safe, least of all the officers who are forced to deal with any and every situation with no backup. 50-60 gang members having a party on the street, undoubtedly with guns and various other weapons? One beat car or one sergeant riding with a PO gets dispatched. 2 vs 60. Nice odds. If they want to kill the police, which we know they do, could it possibly be any easier? This worthless city and department has decided that sergeants will be used as beat cars to handle the jobs while the beat cars are down. Sergeants can't ride alone, so more beat cars are downed in order to provide a PO to ride with each sergeant. Where is the supervision the city, the department, and the DOJ want if supervisors are tied down all night answering calls like a regular beat car? The sergeants have become overpaid POs.

Citizens, if you call the police in a slower district, assume no one is coming for quite some time. Prepare to defend yourself. Get a license to carry concealed. You need it. You're being thrown to the wolves by a mayor and a police department that don't give a shit about your safety. It's only going to get worse. Retirements are increasing and hiring is laggin way behind, and that's with an already severely understaffed department. Manpower has been focused in high crime areas, whether it's needed or not. The high crime districts always have cars available to handle the endless string of nonsense calls from the people who can't handle anything in their lives themselves. Meanwhile, the people with jobs, who pay taxes, who act like actual human beings, who don't run around committing crimes all day, every day, are left to fend for themselves. A piece of shit gangbanger can call the police because his baby mama disrespected him, and he will have police service immediately. A law-abiding, tax-paying, citizen can be robbed and beaten to a bloody pulp, and no one will be able to help them for an hour or more. If you want police service, you need to get victimized in the ghetto. If your husband wants to beat the shit out of you for a few hours, you're on your own until a beat car is available to come help you. You'll be fine for 20 minutes, right? How about an hour? Good luck. You need to demand that this city provide you with the police protection you deserve, the police you're paying for. Call your alderman. Call the media. Call the mayor's office. Ask Jamal for Eddie's phone number so you can call him. We're all fucked because the city has chosen to let the department go to shit.

If someone from 016 would be kind enough to post how many cars were up for the last month it would be appreciated. The mayor does not give two shits about 016 and 017. It is all about keeping a lid on crime in the west and south sides.

Friday evening in 001 there was one, yes ONE, marked beat car up so they gave the Tact guys cars beat numbers and told them to sign in as that beat. Tact had NO sgts that night and Saturday night there were no sgts scheduled for the entire district so the day sgts had to do a double. This on a weekend when the shitheads like to hit the tourists and stores the hardest and pick them clean, car jackings are routine and head bashing for a cell phone is the best game in town.

If only for catharsis and not any hope that we'll get the staffing numbers we deserve. Heard 1622 on the scanner get sent to Lutheran the other day to go babysit an offender. With no rapid response that I could hear and only one tac up, that left basically all of Jefferson Park without a car. I never heard anyone assogned to cover the beat. The poor POs were racking up the miles responding from 1614 over to 1623 and so on while in a Rap.

This Department is surely well understaffed...Yet no one of note seems to notice, or care. Is there some mass hypnosis event going on? We are about thirty percent down from 15 years ago.(13,500 down to approx 9000 or less by some accounts) Patrol sees it most clearly. I know some inside units are running at about 50%. Everything is smoke and mirrors. A little puff of smoke here and there.

As the department dwindles, the screwball merits that are running this dysfunctional shit show seem more prevalent. This after a long series of merit promotions based on politics. We are paying dearly for this now, more than ever. These promotions think this is all legit...They think that they actually have something to offer, and that their presence could never be replaced. It's retarded...The days of evil are here now. Woe to those men who love evil, and hate good, and are the rulers of the day.

Can the days of tribulation be far away...?

You know of what you speak.

I work from home in 019. I have keys to most neighbors' homes in case of lock-out, vacations (bring in mail), or emergencies. Also the first-call designee for some neighbors' alarm services.

A few months back while running errands on a weekday afternoon, I got a call from one neighbor's alarm company. Their alarm had tripped. I said I'd be home in 10 minutes and would take a look. The alarm company said they would call the CPD in the meantime. When I arrived, there were no signs of forced entry anywhere on the property and I could see the dog asleep on the sofa. The dog-walker evidently set the alarm for "Away" rather than "Home" and the dog's movements set it off. I let myself in. The alarm company called and I gave the all-clear code, saying they could cancel the CPD request. The alarm company dispatcher said that once police are summoned they can't be recalled. So I said I'd lock-up and wait on my neighbor's front porch for the RO.

I was still waiting 45 minutes later. So I called my neighbor at his Loop office and told him to save his money, cancel the alarm service, and just keep the signs in the yard and window. Because if something actually does go down, there's no one in 019 who can respond. Too few resources stretched too thin.

I got my CCL last year and followed it up with another 60 hours of formal training. After that incident my neighbor, his wife, and my wife got their CCLs, too.

To poster 8/15/16 - 1231 AM. You can take the whole 007th District and put it in any of the sectors in the 008th District and the 016th District. How many POLICE OFFICESS ARE WORKING IN THE 10 Sector of either 8 or 16 and compared the number of Police Officers working in the 7th District on any given shift. Not only am I talking about District Personnal, how about specialized units working in the 007th District at any given time. How many specialize units work in the west end of 8 or the entire 16th District. You state that it time that the little people of color get some protection. Where have you been the last 30 years. For the last 30 years PEOPLE OF COLOR have always gotten the most police protection. You also state that the people in the west end of 8 or the whole area of 16 can afford to hire their own protection. EARTH TO THIS POSTER: You state in your post that manpower is decided by crime activity. You are correct. However, White people deserve Police Protection just as people of color. And I am going to look at the taxes these people are paying! Why in the world should white people with the taxes they are paying HIRE ADDITONAL PROTECTION. Here is the problem: PEOPLE OF COLOR HAVE COME TO EXPECTED EVERYTHING FROM THE GOVERNMENT. People of color expect to government take care of all of their problems because for the most part, PEOPLE OF COLOR are incapable of taking care of themselves. Look into the mirror. The birth rate for unwed mothers in the AREAS OF PEOPLE IN COLOR IS almost 75% Here lies the problem. It seems that PEOPLE OF COLOR can't manage themselves so they turn to the government. People of Color have for soo many years have the government take care of them. If People of Color don't get what they want they riot and burn down the area's where they live. The other thing you got right on your post is that many of the conceal carry people are PEOPLE WHO ARE WHITE. I know personally many WHITE PEOPLE ARE ARMING THMSELVES.

The city needs a mass hiring. We know that's not happening. In the mean this "everybody has to be 10-4" needs to stop. It does not make things safer. On days , instead of having 8 cars on the street it's now 4. If the city is not going to hire then some extreme measures need to be taken. Start closing the desks. Start doing away with some of these units. Patrol needs to be saturated. Instead it's being crippled. This city, department , union , and bosses don't care, so I assume nothing will change for the foreseeable future. This department is in terrible shape. The ship is sinking. Sounds like a commander who thinks numbers are more important than officer safety and the safety of the citizens. The only reason we still have tactical teams is because they can be manipulated and pressured into getting numbers so they don't get dumped back to the watch. There is absolutely no reason we need tactical teams when the beat cars aren't even manned. By not allowing the tactical car to take what amounts to an inventory, the commander freed them up to go get an ISR or maybe a DOPW arrest. That commander has no common sense and no regard for the safety of his officers. Tying up a tactical car on an inventory doesn't down a beat car, so they would be available to be dispatched to other calls. By making a beat car take the job, that commander increased his backlog, and decreased the number of cars available to assist the citizens and other officers. Good job, commander dumbshit. I'm "very disappointed in you." Go fuck yourself.

Tactical teams should all be disbanded and the officers assigned to the watches. That's where they are needed, and that's the only thing that makes sense when we're this shorthanded. I know it's not what they want to hear, and it's not how it should be, but it's what has to happen until this city hires a proper number of officers.

About 6 weeks ago, a pro police rally was held outside the 016Dist. Ald. Napolitano and Sposato were present.
These aldermen should ask their constituents to picket City Hall in response to the dwindling amount of police officers in the 016/017 Districts. Embarrassing Rahmulus is the only way to get more staffing. Laurino could also use some negative feedback.
Look at Sticky Buns Tunney being lied to regarding staffing in 019East. Same goes for Proctology Joe Moreno in 012South.
There are plenty of retired CPD who would picket the Hall for a worthwhile cause, especially if Deano & FOP have nothing to do with it since we know not to trust our Lodge 7 concubines.

Police resources, cars and bodies are moved to the places that need them the most. NOT to the areas that pay the highest taxes. The well to do can afford to hire their own security if they feel they need it, or they can protect their property themselves for a little while. It is time some little people and people of color got some protection.

Hmmm. Sounds fair, pay for my personal security and for the protection of "little people and people of color "....hell why don't I just pay for their food, clothing, housing,....oh wait.....

P.S. I'm a "person of color" and find your statement offensive.

Stop with the 10-4 BS on days for starters. Every district is down 5-6 cars a day because of this stupid crap. Everyone has been 99 on days forever.

8/15/2016 04:41:00 PM

Look at it this way - Maybe you don't value YOUR life, but the person you're riding with values THEIRS. Maybe THEY have someone who loves them, values them and wants them to come home alive and well at the end of their tour. (Heck, maybe you do, too.)

Riding 10-4 is a personal safety must these days. If you haven't heard, there's a bunch of lunatics out there gunning for the police. Yes, riding 10-4 might be cramping your style, but it's nice to be alive so you can HAVE a style to bitch about.

Stop shooting each other, you idiots. Ain't enough police cars and ambulances and trauma centers and custom RIP T-shirt printers in the world to keep up with your foolishness at this rate.

Black Lives Matter, you say? We're waiting for some evidence of that.

Slightly off-topic here, but did anyone notice CFD is now requesting CPD to ride on pretty much every call they get? It used to be that they would request CPD to ride when there was a high potential for violence or some sort of police service might be necessary. It seems the word has gone out that they will request police for every call, regardless of the circumstances. In an ideal world, CFD having CPD backup on their calls is a great plan. In the world we live in, with constant backlogs, undermanned districts, and calltakers considering everything to be an emergency requiring police service, it's simply not possible for the police to ride with fire on every call. It increases the backlogs, decreases safety of the officers and citizens, and does little to help the fire personnel in the vast majority of cases. I assume it has something to do with medics wanting vests, which they probably should have. No vests, then they'll just have police protect them instead. Most of the time, fire is in and out before the backlogged police can respond, but the job still sits on the board, and the backlog continues. If fire RTQ, that job should disappear from the police side. Can't assist them if they're gone anyway. Just another thing I've noticed that contributes to the backlogs. Anyone from CFD want to comment on this?

Even if they did post them the Sheeple likely wouldn't do anything about it.

100% true. And I'll add to have everybody working 10-4 on 3rd watch is also a waste of manpower. Especially the 10-4 lot security in certain districts that is called in to work the desk when God forbid it get a little "busy" for the desk crew.

003 and 004 barely have enough cars on 1st watch and its been that way for years. The whole department is screwed

Stop your crying. 003-/004 have more people working every night than 016/017 have on a whole watch. Go to a roll with 6 officers sitting in it. That's what they have.

If bobblehead would use his ginormous brain, he would take the 8 (thats 4 beat cars) house mice in uniform he hides in administrative positions (handing out coloring books, installing children car seats and school lock down drills - even though school is out!) and make them work on the watch. This would give some relief to some officers and allow them to take TIME DUE to be with their families.
Also, crack down on your dollies who are abusing the medical and enjoying themselves at water parks and posting it on Facebook!

Ok I see what your saying but no one on days goes anywhere alone, 2 cars 95% of the time are dispatched to a job all the time when we were 99 and it has always been that way. If someone wants to take out one of us. Two people sitting in a car are not going to stop it. If an officer is afraid to work alone or doesn't have the situational awareness to work alone then just stay away from days it's that simple.

Well, looks like citizens in one underserved neighborhood in 12 are being proactive.

https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20160816/west-town/west-town-need-its-police-back-say-petitioners-demanding-more-patrols

As of Monday, 1,271 people have signed an online petition, "Restore Adequate Police to 12 (RAP12)" directed to Alds. Walter Burnett, Brian Hopkins, Roberto Maldonado and Joe Moreno, whose wards are in the Near West District.

Kim Shepherd, a Smith Park Neighborhood Alliance board member and volunteer Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) facilitator for Near West District's "Beat 1221" — bordered by Wood Street on the east, Kedzie Avenue on the west, Chicago Avenue on the north and Kinzie Avenue on the south — told members of a Ukrainian Village Neighborhood Watch group that the Near West District lost rather than gained officers since the merger.

Earlier this month, Shepherd said the Near West District (12th) had 285 officers. The lowered numbers, Shepherd said, were due in part to a total of 44 officers that retired, transferred or were promoted in July.

In 2012, there were over 500 officers in the Near West District, according to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who presided over the opening of the new environmentally friendly police station at 1412 W. Blue Island Ave.

On Monday, a Near West District police source said that there are "significantly less" police in the district than when the merger of the Wood Street and Near West District occurred.

CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi declined to share the number of police officers assigned to patrol the Near West District but he acknowledged "vacancies."

If CFD is calling for assists, maybe they're concerned for their own safety these days like we are. They've become targets recently, just like the police, in case you haven't noticed.

Also, most of our CFD brethren know - like you should know - that police resources are assigned based on the number of calls for assistance in each district. The more calls for service, the more likely that district gets a bigger piece of the manpower pie.

Use your brain instead of running here to bitch. Whatever their reason for requesting assistance, it is helping to point up how WE NEED MORE COPS HIRED and we need them now.

CFD is not being targeted recently. I know they're concerned for their safety. Your more calls for service equals more manpower theory is completely wrong. Manpower is decided based on politics and politics alone. Calls for assistance from CFD hardly shows that there's a need for more police, especially when it's a simple EMS job of a drunk passed out on the sidewalk or awake and puking. That doesn't get you more manpower, it just gets you a bigger backlog. If you use your brain, you'd see that I acknowledged the fact that police assistance for CFD is great in an ideal world. You'd also notice that I pointed out that CFD is long gone from most of those jobs before CPD can get to them due to backlogs. I wasn't bitching. I was pointing out a recent trend I've noticed, and asking if anyone from CFD could comment on what changed to cause this. Nothing CFD does will help to point out that we need more cops. The people in charge of hiring more cops already know. They've done nothing about it. They'll continue to do nothing about it. I think our CFD brethren will acknowledge that they don't need police assistance on the vast majority of their calls, yet they're requesting it. That's why I made the post, which should've been obvious to anyone who actually read it and had the ability to understand it. Thanks for chiming in though. Now go make some 911 calls for nonsense around your neighborhood. Surely you'll see an increase in manpower if you just call 911 enough. Moron.

I spoke to a fire captain yesterday while on a heroin od call and he was asking me what happened to all the manpower in 016 on Saturday. He said they had a doa and couldn't get a PO on scene for 3 hours. We explained how be cause of the Bud Billiken parade taking officers out of the district that's already so short handed there were only 3 cars available to handle all the calls that day

There was a call the other day in the 1st District near the end of the day watch while the District was in a rap . The call was a person had found a bag of drugs and wanted to turn it in . A Tactical car responded and said they would handle the job because of no cars available. Car
100 then abruptly got on the air and told the tactical car to disregard that call . The tactical car then asked for a clarification from car 100 who responded " I would be VERY DISAPPOINTED in you if you took that call . "He then instructed the dispatcher to assign that call to a "beat car " when it becomes available . This is coming from a commander who never worked a beat car . The word BEAT is appropriate because they are overworked my friend ! What does a tactical car do ?

8/15/2016 04:24:00 PM

It's obvious you never worked a tact team and also obvious you don't know the Commander in 001. One of the best I ever worked for; a real stand-up guy. He ran all those details in 001 as a lieutenant and always took care of us. So STFU, especially when you're just jumping on the "exempts are all evil" bandwagon.

Cool story Mr. Jeans Police. Now tell us why Commander Dumbfuck wouldn't let the tact car take that call. One word: numbers. If they're inventorying drugs, they can't be out there arresting pissers and drinkers or getting ISRs. Any exempt playing the numbers game at this point is a complete fucking moron who doesn't deserve to command anything. Oh wow, he ran a bunch of details and took care of you! Good for you. He's not taking care of anyone by pushing for numbers and being "disappointed" when his officers volunteer for a call to free up a beat car. You're a stroke and a suckass. Maybe the commander can take care of you more easily while you're cradling his balls, but it doesn't make him a good commander. Oh, and I was on a tact team, so I know what they do... whatever the bosses say to keep their spot. Don't pretend it's anything else. Tact teams are only around because they can be pressured into generating numbers and because they can have their RDOs canceled to be sent anywhere the department decides to send them. Save your war stories about busting real criminals and doing search warrants. It's all just about the numbers.

If you understood it, you wouldn't have posted the idiotic shit you posted in response. My OPINION is backed by the FACT that CFD assist calls aren't 911 calls, so they do nothing to increase calls for service. Also, it is a FACT that calls for service can't magically create more officers to patrol the slower districts. Hiring depends on the mayor's whim, and his budget, not on calls for service. Ghetto districts will always have more calls for service no matter what you do, so you won't get cops from those districts assigned to a slower district. I'm sorry that your delusional OPINION has caused you to ignore PROVEN FACTS, but that does indeed make you wrong and a moron. As for your suggestion that I post my question on a CFD blog, I don't know of or post on any CFD blogs, and I'm not about to start. My question related to the use of POLICE by the CFD, so I posted it here. Does the CFD blog ban anyone who doesn't work for CFD? How exactly would I guarantee the answer didn't come from a cop? You do realize that CFD members read and post on this blog, don't you? That's who I was addressing. If my question was directed at delusional morons with no fucking clue, then I'd expect you to answer. As it is, you're just wasting your time responding to me, and making more people aware of your stupidity. Is that your goal? If so, congratulations.
