Timely Warning - Not

  • Friday, August 12, 2016 10:25PM

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Dozens of pickpocket thefts have been reported around popular lakefront Maggie Daley Park in downtown Chicago recently, and police are warning visitors to be vigilant. Police said they are investigating what may have been a spree of thefts.

Chicago police said on July 30, pickpockets pulled off 32 thefts throughout the heart of the city, most inside Maggie Daley Park.
So did CPIC put out this warning as the thefts were happening on 30 July and the media is finally reporting it? Or did the warning come out Friday when no one is going to notice it and the media dutifully reported something from almost two weeks ago after Lolla has already wrapped up and left town?

They are also going around offering "promotional literature" as a distraction and then robbing drivers stuck in traffic on North Michigan and Lower Wacker, and also doing the same thing in the restaurant in Jeweler's Row and then grabbing wallets and phones. Description was "large adult male blacks."

Daley lost control of his core business district. Rahm continues the downward spiral.

Are we sure that a Daley isn't responsible for the thefts? the dNily has been stealing from Chicagoans for generations, what makes anyone think they'd stop now?

Hopefully the pickpockets left with the show, to victimize a new set of drunken millennials.

I'm sure there were more but unreported. Pick pockets come in for conventions and sometimes work as teams. To bad we don't have a unit trained to detect a pick pocket ring. We now need a bunco squad. Good luck, with that Ed, you can give a tac guy some OT to walk the crowd.

Unbelievable!

The pickpockets are a regular on North Michigan Ave. They work the hotels, Northwestern Hospital, the restaurants, just about everything. I hate to call names, but dumb women have a habit of hanging their purses on the backs of their chairs inviting theft. It is a daily occurrence. At the hospital, fall asleep in the surgery family waiting room and you will wake up without your wallet, cell phone etc.

Theft? IS there a mission team for that?
Don't forget they use the victims credit card for thousands of dollars after the fact. Does financial crimes have any leads? Nope they don't do follow up on credit cards!
Does anyone have video?
Did the district commander ever assign tact teams to investigate?

Oh well...

32 thefts ! outrageous we can't have those numbers, call the Det' Sgt' those are lost property. Wise up and make the report that fits the crime not killing it to make the DC look better. This has been the problem for decades and I warned FLOP about it more than 10 years ago. You downgrade a report and you lose manpower, you lose active members paying into our pension, you lose assist cars for our calls for help, you lose patrol cars for your own neighborhood.
You as in we are our own worst enemies, personal property doesn't just disappear.

Pickpockets', now that's interesting. I thought that was a lost art now.

Today's *urban youth* just beat the crap out of you and take whatever they want -- at any time of day and at any place you are. So why take all that time learning to pick someone's pocket or purse -- (whack!)...'Gimme all yo stuff Bitch!' -- is much easier.

And 95.67% of the time, they get away with it! Even if they do get caught and arrested the Crook County Judges let the lowlifes off anyway. All they lost was a little time. Big deterrent, NOT!

We "never" hear of any crime at Lolla! The powers that be & the press like to keep it quiet. Really. What are the chances there were "no" sexual assaults, thefts, drunken brawls, underage drinking, etc.? None!?

The last of the cpd pick pocket experts are just about gone from this department. The department forgets that pick pocketers are a certain breed and very good at what they do. Cpd had some awesome old school coppers who worked in 001 and 018 who knew the pick pocket game front and back. They themselves became expert pick pocketers. I think the last of the pick pocket experts just retired recently and of course the bosses and department didn't care about passing that knowledge down to other cops and the art is lost. It takes years to teach this stuff and instead of passing it down to coppers the bosses just wanted numbers numbers numbers.. Even from the old pick pocket guys. The death spiral of the department continues

The thugs constantly race-card to exploit "white guilt." One line I've heard is "I know you nervous about a black person stopping you on the street at night asking for money."

I'm nervous about anyone coming up to me when I'm trying to get in my door.

My right hand firmly in jacket pocket never seemed to make the slightest impression, either. No brain here, no perception of danger, even when approaching someone twice their size -- let alone a giggly little beads-and-braids-and-tanky-top partier with a nice Iphone.

Nothing wrong with having fun -- but the hyenas pick off the ones at the back of the herd. Like our BCP says, it's Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom out there.

Isn't it appropriate that these thefts happened at a park named after the Daley clan? They are the biggest thieves in the history of our city.

Just like a month ago in 018 CPIC gave the description of the victim just as the 018th dist tac team had the shooter in custody, the tac officers were then ordered to do a contact card on the shooter and let him go what a joke. 1143 N Clark st.

This is one area in Islamic Sharia Law I agree with. Pick pockets would have their right hands cut off. In a land of no TP that makes you unclean and really crimps your pick pocketing style.

Some ugly video here --

‘They’re Beating Every White Person’: Riots, Fires After Fatal Shooting Sparks Chaos In Milwaukee

"Race agitators in Milwaukee used the police shooting of an armed black man to burn down their city and attack white people.

"Several videos show white drivers being stopped in the middle of the street and the “protesters” attempting to pull them out of their vehicles."

http://nation.foxnews.com/2016/08/14/they-re-beating-every-white-person-riots-fires-after-fatal-shooting-sparks-chaos

Try to look far ahead and anticipate; avoid crowds and clusters of flashing emergency lights -- not to mention burning buildings. Duh. A pair of small, inexpensive prismatic binocs might help resolve things a couple of blocks ahead. "Oh-oh." Don't just sit there boxed in and creeping along at 3 MPH if you can possibly help it, "having faith in the orderly flow of traffic." Work on your U-ies and safe reverse driving -- saw a spot here where someone could have bumped easy over a pretty low curb, across sidewalk, into parking lot, and the hell out of there the other way. Got a motorcycle helmet w/bubble? Take it with, might save skull/face/eyes if savage hurls something through windshield. Giant economy-size Bear Gard at 1 foot range will give 'em pause as well. Apply, well, "liberally."

Prepare to repel boarders!

...but get away if you can, and preferably stay aware of the situation and avoid it altogether.

One minor problem with using bear guard or any other aerosolized irritant while in your vehicle: The bad guy is outside in fresh air, so his or her recovery is going to be quicker than yours. Why? YOU are going to get a dose of what you spray and you are in an enclosed space, breathing in some of what you dosed the bad guy with. This might make it tough for you to see well enough to get safely clear of the area. Not exactly a clean escape, especially since there's bound to be multiple hostiles.

Pickpockets? Damn, brings back memories of the Cannons of the day of the Robert Taylor Condominiums. They were slick dressers with tailor made walking suits straight from Roosevelt J-Town or Scotty the Taylor on 47th. They appreciated music too as they always carried one album cover with them and made it their worthwhile to post themselves in front of Montgomery Wards on State Street in the loop. As soon as CTA riders boarded they would be "clipped." Footwear of choice for "Cannons" never was Converse though. Most had an affinity for "Bucks." Even more interesting "Cannons" were allowed to ride either the 5/6 or both! Possibly due to Flookie's influence. Damn, this brings back some serious memories for gang intelligence newbies that want to learn the game and volunteer for the mythical gang suppression unit.
