016 HBT

  • A man was arrested early Sunday after an hours-long hostage situation at a 7-Eleven store in the city's Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.

The man held two store employees hostage inside the store; they were not hurt.

At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a SWAT team was responded to call about a man who barricaded himself in the store in the 4800-block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

SWAT units used flash bangs to get the man out. At about 1 a.m., they entered the store and arrested him.
Reports say he didn't actually have a gun.

Reports don't say that during the incident, 016 had exactly 3 cars working. So no idea who did traffic control and outer perimeter security.

Well, no one died, so you obviously have no reason to complain.

Higgins and Gale had a 016 squad. Chick was watching steering wheel with her drivers side door wide open as I walked by her at about 12:30am.

Lawrence and Milwaukee had a Transit Detail car there. I presume there was one also at Milwaukee and Gale.

To the Female PO that 'handled" Higgins/Gale and Linder: Your situational awareness SUCKED Sunday morning. I made it within 10 feet of your Hood just walking home from Lawrence on Linder. You never looked up once.

3 cars up for the entire 16th District.

Harwood Heights, Niles, Norridge all have more cars available that 016th - pathetic.

It's not a matter of if, but a matter of when "the tragedy" will occur. The mayor, superintendent and alderman can all share the blame.

What a fucking joke this city has become. 9.5 and crew have really run the middle class into the ground. Meanwhile in da hood we have 2 or 3 cars per every bullshit ghetto baby mama "I want him locked up " domestic. Ain't it just peachy. We have the hardest charging and largest resource allocated to Pookie and his homies. Cause you know... they pay taxes and don't try to sue police aka ghetto lottery every chance they get, of course.

Stay the fuck fetal. Our home front is getting picked openly and you're chasing dude for a couple baggies. Lol.

Dumb question, but if there were only three care working and there was also a huge street festival in the district, did they even bother to detail anyone to the street fest? This shit is beyond ridiculous.

Couldn't they have pulled some of the VRI cars from their boxes to assist with the HBT issue, and then send them back when they're done?

Early reports indicate that the suspect was armed with a slurpee, which held the three police units on scene at bay until the swat team arrived with long straws...

They had to borrow cars from 017 to provide traffic/pedestrian control around the Copernicus Center. It's fitting since 017 blew off the job when this guy was at the 7-11 at Irving/California making threats and talking crazy about suicide by cop. Instead they send him to Swedish with "chest pains" where he proceeds to walk right out, find a box cutter and go to Jeff Park 7-11. Thanks 017. Next time take care of your jobs.

Sorry to agree this is a problem with many younger coppers.from looking like "birdman" hands in vest elbows flapping, to sitting at stoplights engrossed on playing computer games, texting on cell phones, driving with windows all the way up as not to hear what is going on around them, worked with a recruit drove around a 1 mile are 4X told her to pay attention as we drove pulled in an alley on round 4 asked her "do you know we are" she said "no sorry not paying attention" If you don't know exactly where you are at least in case your being attacked have a close idea. the academy teaching these kids? But then again we have kids teaching kids.

Numerous 7-11 were armed robbery victims a few years ago. SOME of the stores hired off duty p.o. For security at $25.00 an hour cash! Maybe they should reinitiate that program! Especially the one where it just occurred at.

Ghost town 016...Shut it Down.
No manpower, why is it even staffed and operating under the guise of a police facility?
May as well turn it into a senior community center & cat shelter.
When minutes count, help is miles and miles and miles away.
Hey Ald. Naps, what's open on the Sep 16th Bid List?

To the person(or p.o) trying to judge officers during this hbt incident, my advice to you is to go back to your mother's basement or go back to playing your video games. Tactical awareness[if I'm correct this officer was on scene at the the 7-11 and tactfully cleared every business of every employee or patron along with clearing cta perimeter as well as other duties. Now go back and pretend to be the robocop that you aren't or the hater that you really are and stop trying to bring others down. Job well done by every officer assigned!

Hopefully Ed the Stripper & Newbie Navarro will keep their word and assign more staff to 016. Hopefully, if the Dynamic Duo break their word Ald. Sposato & Napolitano will hold their feet to the fire by informing the press and tha mayor. The low staffing levels are ridiculous and unacceptable as well as downright dangerous. Blue Lives Matter. And that means EACH town has more than 16 does.. Include ELmwood Park, Rosemont, Park Ridge. That's more than 36 cars right there, circling 16.

Doing more with less does not work in law enforcement when bodies are needed on the street to prevent crime. If it were otherwise, then victims would be directed to either call in their report or log in on a computer. Oh that's right we have call back. Well I guess the computer log in is next.

That's because either a dispatcher, a supervisor, or a very busy beat unit coded it out. (19P) Not too much priority on a call like that. That's what happens when manpower dips so severely. Next time tell the call taker that there are children playing outside and that they are in danger.

Just sayn'
