- Robbery victims were forced to unlock their phones and reset them to factory settings by armed male offenders in Chicago's Loop and South Loop neighborhoods, police said.
The two offenders were carrying a semi-automatic handgun and demanding cellphones, wallets and purses in three incidents from Aug. 29 - Sept. 1.
[...] One offender was described as between the ages of 15 and 17 and wearing a black hat with yellow writing on it. The other man was between the ages of 17 and 22 and also wearing a black hat with a Batman logo on it. Both were wearing dark or black clothing.
So just stop all teens/young men in dark clothing. Seems to make sense.

I love how they leave out the things that can't change (skin tone/race) and put in every little detail that can be changes (hat, shirt, etc....). PUSSIES!!!!
Even my civilian neighbor knows that when a race description is not given, it means the offender(s) were a minority.

A woman was mugged and sexually assaulted in Evanston the other day while pushing a baby stroller. Offender fled ABC news gave description without the race stated. I had to look it up to find out.
Then same day in Hyde Park ABC failed to mention race description of the post office armed robber.
The race is the most distinctive demograpgic (including sex that could be confusing at times).

The armed robbery at 500 Columbus Drive was at Buckingham Fountain where some city event was being held that included at least a dozen or more white tents. Drove by it on the way to Navy Pier for a lunch cruise as a birthday present for my granddaughter.
We also had her "crush" as a guest and his father, before we left for chicago, was concerned about the violent yutes that have been reeking havoc.
Then my wife reminded him that I'm a retired CPD and carry while in the city and it was cool to see his relief with that thought.
He had a right to be concerned.
Side note: Informational sign at the pier bans unescorted yutes after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's a little something anyways.

This isn't really a new thing depending on where you are. The metro area I'm in is overwhelmingly white. The past approximately 5-8 years the local paper has had a policy of censoring descriptions if the suspect is not white. They started doing it with booking photos too if there was a suspect in custody - the header would show a generic picture of a gun or something with the story. Same thing with illegal aliens that got caught on the freeway with a load of drugs, they'd refer to them as a "local man" or whatever when in reality they were cartel members from Mexico.
After people caught on they started to catch a bunch of heat for those things in their online comment threads. Some editor would respond and give a lame reason that race is a subjective descriptor, but anyone who's paid attention knows they're trying to hide the fact 5% of the population here is responsible for about 60% of the violent crime. And that "local men" with 120 lbs. of methamphetamine don't typically get ICE holds placed on them.
Pretty sad, that level of cognitive dissonance. Not sure how you can solve a problem if you deny it exists.

No, thugs don't get free latest Iphones, Galaxies, etc. That is all stolen.
An "Obamaphone" is a little thing with a retail value of about $5.00. Very tiny screen, no touchscreen, no cameras, no web browsing, often hard for an older person to even hear, tiny keys and rudimentary text function, that is it.
If you qualify for it through extremely limited income, you can get one free, with a very limited number of minutes per month. This is called "Lifeline" service, intended that people have some kind of phone to call for help, make doctor's appointments, etc. You can get a landline for your home, or a cell phone, but not both.
No six-year-old in the hood would be caught dead with one of these.
Most of the stylin is accomplished through sheer strength of numbers. Get 15 people in a house, cars parked on front lawn and in back yard, it is a combination of some government benefits, a couple of people with equal-opportunity BS city jobs, and a lot of slingin and rim-stealing and other such activity. Work at a nursing home? Load up your trunk with those big No. 10 cans of food, the residents can eat whatever mush is left over. Seen it.
Free 30-pound Butterballs at the Glass Block Cross Church, being handed out to the already morbidly obese, with the "volunteers for the distribution" making sure they themselves come away with half a dozen. Most of this "help" is collected in white areas, by white volunteers, and trucked to the south and west sides, never to be seen again. I have actually laid hands on a block of that mythical "government cheese" once -- ONCE -- in my entire life.
The alone and elderly are at the bottom of the pile for getting help. This is as Ezekiel Emanuel wants it; you've had a "full life," so the "overuse" of medical care should end at age 60.
