Desk Cameras

Anyone know why the desk isn't wearing cameras all the time?

They wear vests at the desk. They deal with the public at least as much as a beat car, maybe more in the busier districts. They're closer to a charger than the beat cars are, so they can swap out for fresh batteries all the time.

For that matter, what about the front office people? They should be wearing vests, they deal with the public, aldercreatures and exempts all the time. It would provide a necessary bit of oversight to the internal workings of the department.

By the way, what is the policy for filming in a CPD facility? We know you can't film at City Hall. Inside Federal buildings is a no-no. God forbid the TSA grab you at the airport filming checkpoints. And inside a Cook County courtroom, where (arguably) more crime is committed than on the street, you better not be caught with a camera.

Is there a written policy? What is it?

Why not strap a camera on Rahm and each of the 50 thieves to ensure nothing scandelous happens again, like agreeing to give $5 million to a family without anyone seeing the video in an attempt to keep the truth from the public.

Yes. It is in the order. You are not allowed to turn ur camera on in a police facility unless its to film an incident related to an arrest. It also says your not allowex to film other officers just because you feel like it. Must be related to a job.

Don't you have security cameras monitoring the entry way and lobby? You know, cameras and monitoring like any sane organization does?

Yes there is a policy . ....Fuck you and mind your own business .
Cameras are only for peons, to present the illusion of transparency .
You will never wire up the guys who need it most , Madigan , Rahm , the 50 thieves or even just building inspectors . Grow up and get real.

They want transperancy then let's have it. We should demand cameras in city hall etc... Also, we should have alderman and the mayors phone and emails from Laquan McDonald and Paul Oneill. Two way street. Lastly we need to set up a sight where a private citizen can request out cities finest individuals on the public way from our body cams. Let transparency work both ways.

Interesting.... My DSS is unfit for duty, works part time, except for VRI, but pretty much leaves us alone so he gets a pass. To the tune of 170,000.

Desk crews wear cameras? Now that is nonsense talk. Can't be filming when the crew comes in late and leaves early or when the WC takes a duck.

"[Filming] inside Federal buildings is a no-no."

Post Office I used to go to had "no cameras" notices up, based on an Executive Order from 1943 or so.

One clerk there could not count past 10 without help. It was straight picture-book "apples and oranges" arithmetic, and it was not successful. She kept arranging postcards in different little stacks on the counter, trying to figure out the 25 I had asked for. Groups of two -- "Can't do it like that." Try groups of four -- "Can't do it like that," she muttered.

I can understand why they wouldn't want that kind of scene "going viral."

They're putting 500 "fitness cameras" one on every block according to recent news. So yeah cameras in all the districts, the alderman's office the 5th floor mayors office shouldn't be unreasonable. They are public servants and the people have the right to know what's going on inside their homes and offices the same as the invasion of privacy with the rest of the citizens

I will request that FOP put it in the next contract. I want every officer wired. Desk, lockup, Commander's office, caps, dss an do on. We have civilians working in the commanders office and the desk. Wouldn't want them saying they feel "intimidated by the police".

There was an asshole running call back years ago who would jam people up for bringing a camera on a retirement day to take retirement/cake coffee pictures. Aint that a typical CPD send off? Get a CR# on a guy who survived a heart attack on his last day of work and wanted a remembrance photo of the people he worked with. Where do they find these fucking Bosses?

9/01/2016 12:33:00 AM

Oh yeah, there are cameras monitoring all the doors and the lobby. Oh, and all that glass... yeah that's bulletproof. Those revolving doors? Those are high security bulletproof revolving doors. The doors on all the new police cars even have ballistic panels in them. Why wouldn't they? It's a relatively low cost option offered by Ford. We have security watching our station lots, but you probably can't see them due to the security fence with the big gate. Police stations are so safe and secure and monitored 24/7 by the greatest cameras ever made. If you think those are just a random assortment of smelly homeless drug addicts collapsed on the floor and blocking the doorways, you'd be wrong. Those are undercover officers working to protect the station from undesirables. They are set to spring into action at the first sign of trouble. Only the best for Chicago's police. Safest stations anywhere in the world. Trust me.

Would body cams be in violation of MLB, NFL and NBA etc. rules?
(any pictures, descriptions, or accounts of the game without the express written consent of the League is prohibited)
What about Springer Show?

Also, are desk personnel required to wear a Vest while performing Desk Duty?
What about the use unauthorized electronic devices that may or may not contain amusement applications such as Candy Crunch and Snap Champ?
Are Google Glasses allowed?

Which rules apply to just me and not others?
Oh, and if I duck, who do I turn in a body cam when the radio room gal already left?

Will there be Off Duty Cams soon, I like to do street stops on he way home too.

It Is simple, if someone is filming in a Police facility we should request they cease their conduct because there are victims and witnesses entering and remaining in the Police stations to report crimes and to assist in the investigations of those crimes. Those victims and witnesses deserve certain protections. Without the protections, criminals could have their compatriots stake out the Police facilities to keep victims and witnesses at bay.

I'm no fan of body cameras, but to suggest desk crews wear them is fine if:
You realize that the checkoff room/location will be filmed so good bye coming in 45 minutes before the end of ur tour for checkoff.
Also cameras on the desk crew will show officers in the station doing nothing when they are either down on a job so where else or just hanging out instead of being on the street.
Cameras on the desk crew would also show when officers leave the station and fail to come clear immediately per GO.
So I would really rethink wanting cameras on the desk crew and just worry about yourself and your partner.

But, it is about time that the stations are made secure and that also means cameras in the lobbies and covering the desk at all times.
