1230 Start Time?
First of all, it's not a clinching game.
Second, even if it was, why start at 1230? Is the Department thinking that the festivities will be over by 0030 hours? Or do they not care that the 3rd Watch will be pulling a 16-hour shift that will likely leave them ineffective?
A 1500 or 1600 hour start time would make a lot more sense, and be a lot closer to a normal shift....but that would make sense. Are there different start times for an actual title game?

Best part is no game on Halloween. So why cancel that?
It's not about clinching or festivities. It's about guarding the very large crowds from a possible terrorist attack. Has nothing to do with when or if they win, it's a perfect and easy target to hit on Clark street with packed bars and packed streets.
Shame on you, SCC...stop making sense. A lot of overly-promoted, completely inept people put a lot of time and effort into coming up with a1230 start time.

Haha don't cry 005 is working from 0800-2030 and 0900-2130 on days and 2000-0830 and 2100-0930 on nights...and just sitting in the district doing nothing...no reason to cancel days off or 10 hour schedule for this event!

They just don't think things thru. So if we work 12 hours shifts on days they can't clinch, by the actual time the day comes that they can clinch we are going to be so burned out we'll b zombies out there. I don't know about u guys, but 12 hour days for 6 straight days along with getting up at 6 to take care of the kids everyday b/c to pay these city taxes my wife works too is going to be very rough.

It says in the order 005 was excluded from the 12 hour days.
it makes perfect sense to ensure the troops are physically exhausted and mentally drained before there is even a chance of a clinch game.....you don't honestly think the BrainTrust could have written a thoughtful and sensible plan----it took them long enough to come up with this generic piece of nonsense---and Georgas imported all kinds of "no longer assigned to HQ" help to do it--not that his made up DC job has anything to do with events/orders.

You can't have one watch work 8 hours and another one work 12 hours, it doesn't work. I understand the world revolves around you but this is the only way it would have worked.

You can't guard the crowds from a terrorist attack. That's just ridiculous. This is absolutely about crowd control and keeping the peace during any celebration. What exactly does working 12 hour shifts on a non-gameday do to combat terrorists? There are plenty of sporting events and festivals that would make great targets for terrorists, yet none of them have caused us to work 12 hour days. Blackhawks parades had some of the largest crowds ever assembled in this city, yet my days off weren't canceled and I wasn't working 12 hour days. This is about a bunch of drunk assholes and criminal opportunists all being concentrated in a relatively small area full of bars. You need large numbers of police to have any sort of control over a situation like that. I'm sure the possibility of a terrorist attack has been discussed, but I'm sure there's no plan to handle it if it happens. I'm also sure that any plan these morons come up with would be an absolute failure. The 12 hour days and canceled days off are just so they have the maximum number of police officers to control whatever disturbances pop up. That's it.

In a related matter, just got in to Work, for first watch, and was informed at roll call that RDO's for 31 OCT (Monday) are no longer cancelled, but the 12 hour schedule will continue.
Called 35th street to confirm this, as Monday is actually SUNDAY NIGHT for everyone on 1st wat h.
Was put on hold for quite some time, as the people in the office were unaware of this issue (that they were in effect cancelling calling in officers to cover Tomorrow night).
They confirmed the cancellation (of the cancellation) but were scratching their heads.
On a personal note, thanks again for fucking up everyone's plans, Again (especially from those who had tickets, but had to pass them off because they were "required" to work)!
For the record, the notice was posted at 15:15 hours, and obviously not available to the midnight troops until 2000 roll call (2000 hours).
This department is so messed up with its current leadership. The CPD is a big embarrassment.
