We heard they aren't even halfway through the current list of eligible-to-be-hired, but the pool is evidently so small, the City expects to finish it before the year is out.

Stay in school, get a useful degree, and get a nice office job with bankers hours. Trust me, you and your future family will be thankful you did. Stay as far away from this cesspool as you can. It's an alternate reality that you don't want to enter. Trust me.

If you're white, don't even bother. Saw special Ed on tv this morning and he stated that out of the applicants to be hired, over 70% will be minorities.
Not all are ungrateful. Millions of us are grateful for what you do for us and the city we all share. I wish it was 100% but you have lots of friends.

Retired for a couple of years after 30 on. Am absolutely amazed at how much the job and society as a whole have changed so rapidly. Sorry kids, but yes, the job actually WAS fun at one time. Hey SCC you left one out in the second guessed category - the supervisors, starting at the sgts and then all the way up. There was a time on this job where at least most of them had your back. After all the chopping block examples that have been made, nobody wants to take a chance and possibly stick their necks out. So even if you're right the supervisors are second guessing you, making absolute certain everything is black and white for a job that's deals mostly in the grey. If it were all black and white there'd obviously be no need for judges, jury's, defense attorneys and prosecutors. Just a need for someone to determine sentencing. What a mistake taking this job was, I should've quit a long time ago. The privledged few and other fools that turn a blind eye to all that's against us and continue to do this job can kiss my ass before posting their comments about how great the job is or suggesting I just quit. Either you've been sheltered or are just too dumb to ever know any different. I will be quitting soon but not soon enough.
With how poorly this city is run, how overpriced housing is and the fact our healthcare is turning into crap why would anyone want this. Salary might look impressive until your working 2 part times to live in this hell hole. Less then 10 years and getting out next year.
During the Cubs celebrations, I was pleasantly surprised to see the number of nice looking young recruits that are still willing to take a chance on this job. I wish them well.
FYI - yesterday in the academy the recruits standing with the mayor during the press conference, were carefully hand picked to make sure whitey is the least represented. That's what it's all about - hire minorities even if they are not qualified. The whole liberal diversity bullshit has arrived at CPD and will ruin lives and opportunities of many QUALIFIED candidates who are not diverse enough... And that ladies and gentlemen is bullshit...

An uncle and cousin of mine were OTJ and told me NOT to join CPD. That was 1976 when I got out of the army. I didn't listen because my goal was always to be a Chicago cop. I've been retired now for a few years and am proud of my service. There will always be people who feel called to serve as I did. Unfortunately there will also be a few people (folks) who join for nefarious reasons.
Friends don't let friends join the CPD.
I tell young people all the time. Stay in school, get your degree and leave Chicago and Illinois!

I have heard it for a few years, we are a diverse commumity and in order to be all inclusive, we have to change our language, our traditions, our customs and traditions to be socially responsive and recognize with respect other cultures. This means everything has to be changed that indentifies with white privileged culture.
So in keeping with that outlook it is time to stop white ethnocentric privilege and exclusionary behavior known as Christmas on Michighan Avenue. We will no longer attend the tree lighting, Krinkle Village and all the other attractions this time of year because they are gender phobic, Islamophobic, homophobic, xeniophobic and promote sexism, racisim and much more intolerant behavior. We will not take Metra or drive downtown, we will spend our time and money in the suburbs where parking is free and sales tax is 7.5% even on sugary drinks.
Now that I have parroted like a little bitch what my professors tell me, I plan to have fun with my play dough in my room until I resume classes.

All others need not expect any fair proportional of the CPD application process.

I do! I think SSC will recognize me as a decade-long occasional poster. I have an African American employee of my small business, who I think the world of, who just got word that he should be ready for the physical portion of the hiring process. I'm really excited for him. He's pretty excited about it. I understand the reasons that you all might suggest it's not a great job to enter into now. But if he's hired, I think he has a lot to offer the department and hope (and believe) you all will welcome him.
Dean Angelo came back to the job from disability. What a honorable person.

Actually non-citizens have been hired by various police departments for years. CPD city policy states that candidates must be "a U.S. citizen or a legal resident at the time of hire." Years ago, actually a lot of years ago, Irish immigrants were hired by police departments because they were an immigrant group who could speak English.

5 years on the job just passed the detectives exam which gives me the confidence with the same hard work I can at least make sgt. one this job last three years of working I've made 100,000 ,109,000,and 130,000 that being said I work a lot!!! a whole lot!! I do get nice furloughs and days off in my unit but with all that I wish I would have stayed in school and did something else ...I was lazy and got a useless degree...I am thankful but this is a thankless job where everyone thinks you hate minorities and are a member of the kkk when that is so far from the truth...my goal is to make it to 25 years unscathed and get the freak outta this hell hole!!! rant over...

Since you apparently still haven't figured out how things work in this city and department, some might say that you're the dummy.
You want to be a big city police, then go to one of those Southern and Western States where they actually like the Police and the weather, cost of living and taxes are way better than Chicago and IL. this city really sucks when you make the comparisons with lets say Phoenix or Las Vegas!
Even the conventions are leaving Chicago for those places!

Why would you disclose it?!!!! That's the whole point of the expungement. It's gone. Gone gone. Let's just say I "know someone" who got into a shooting BEFORE getting on "a certain PD" and he got hired, did his 20 years and now is about to retire. It NEVER came up and get this: He worked for his arresting officer who is now a commander and the SGT of the tact team was his LT for two years. Neither the SGT nor the CMDR recognized him over his career.
