That was the nasty but unambiguous message sent to Ald. Howard Brookins, 21st, by Chicago's rodent community just weeks after he gave a fiery City Council speech decrying the menace of "aggressive squirrels."
Out cycling on the Cal-Sag Trail on Nov. 13, Brookins was jumped by a kamikaze squirrel that leapt into the front wheel of his bike and lodged himself in the spokes, sending the alderman flying over the handlebars.
The attack cost the squirrel its life and left Brookins needing surgery and other treatment for a broken nose, a fractured skull and five or six teeth that were knocked out in the accident.
The Tribune, adding insult to injury, published a picture of the offending rodent tangled in the spokes:
If the squirrels are organizing, we could easily see a homicide total rising into the 1,000's. Remember what happened when the insect world almost took over?

I spoke to a Neuro surgeon at a major hospital a few years ago and he told he he does 5-6 brain surgeries each month on people who are in bicycle crashes and do not wear helmets. It is just plain dumb to not wear a helmet. But, who ever said our alderman are anything but dumb with so many of them getting caught over the years. If Brookins lost some brain matter it would be hard for anyone to notice.

Happened to me on my bicycle. Lurking squirrel made his move as I drew near even with him -- except he launched a split-second late.
SPUNNNGGGG! into the spokes of the front wheel. Whole bike twanged, like a weird piano note.
I wasn't going too fast. I stopped, then noticed a streak up a nearby telephone pole. Thing got up to the tippy-top in about 1/8 second, and was sitting there with a strip of himself visibly missing.
Reminds me of the time a raccoon decided to enter my buddy's back door when he opened it. I mean, decided. Not going to take "No" for an answer.

Change the helmet out periodically, too. The foam inside is supposed to be soft enough to deform so as to absorb impact, but over time, the plasticizer in the foam goes away and the foam becomes as hard as a rock and just transmits force.
One rodent died and another injured when a out of control rodent bicycle operator hits pedestrian squirrel on his way home from work. The squirrel was on his way home from work the rodent alderman has yet to work a day in his life.
If he wanted his bike to make a motorcycle sound he should put a playing card in the spokes instead. Dummy.
Where is PETA and the animal rights activists? An alderman runs down and kills a squirrel because of some "garbage can" grudge and no one says anything? Outrageous!

Just out of the Academy. I worked the wagon for a short time with a Howard Brookins in 002. He was going to funeral director school during the day. After dropping off a body, I'd wait in the wagon while Howard would go in and chat with the funeral director, presumably about the prospects in the undertaking business.

The mayor then claims he does not remember any bike accident, he does not remember any kick back scheme, he does not know what a squirrel is, he does not know of the trail, and he wants to go home.
The feds strike out once again on the fifth floor.

All Marty Preib has to do is follow the Trump election strategy. MF the mayor, Cook County board president,Sheriff and alderman and he is a shoe in. Press will be clamoring for a controversial sound bite. Marty if you decide to run you will have an unprecedented support like no other candidate has ever seen. There is no downside for you running now that Trump is in the white house. I'm sure that a Trump EEOC attorney would be glad to go after the city for screwing with you on the job. A chance for a policeman to win the ghetto lottery at worst and supervisors that would not look at at you let alone f8ck with you for fear that they are the next lawsuit at best. I know you have the balls and there are plenty of knowledgeable people who would back you. Come on Marty, we need a real leader with balls.
All Marty has to do is become more than a one issue candidate. He's been booed out of fop twice by multiple factions. Need to run with Kevin Graham and get some seasoning. Three years from now he can replace Kevin.
