Deadliest Weekend?

  • The deadliest weekend of the year ended with 17 shot dead and at least 57 others wounded in what Police Supt. Eddie Johnson called a "tough" weekend for the city and the department.

The Friday-through-Sunday murder count rose to 17 Sunday after a man shot in Englewood Saturday afternoon died from his injuries. That leaves the late October weekend as the deadliest of the year and the worst weekend for murders since August 2002, according to shootings data compiled by DNAinfo Chicago.

"It was a tough weekend," Johnson said after a ceremony Monday morning for graduating new officers. "You would think people would be in a better frame of mind with the Cubs playing in the World Series."
Um.....why? We can count the number of Cub fans in Englewood in about 5 minutes. No one flies a "W" flag that we've seen, and the few we've seen on cars are just bare sticks with the material ripped off.

But while all of Third Watch was over in Wrigleyville, the hood went up. Special Ed is backing and filling as fast as he can:
  • Johnson said the heavy police presence in Wrigleyville did not impact police operations on the South and West sides, where much of the weekend's violence was concentrated.

"The communities that we typically see violence in, they didn't get shortchanged," he said. "We had adequate resources there. They [shooters] just don't care. I'm sick of it and I know the people in the communities are tired of it."
Really? So coppers working 5 and 6 days in a row, 12 hours at a time, with tactical teams shipped to the northside didn't have any impact on operations? Yeah, sure, the Beat Cars were manned, even some Rapid Response cars, and calls got answered. But the rest was - by Saturday - tired coppers.

A newly minted M.D. conducting her first appendix removal will have probably performed numerous surgeries on cadavers beforehand. How many anatomical dissections of those cadavers do you think she participated in? How many actual surgeries does a resident M.D. observe up close and personal before they go out on their own? How many surgeries with an experienced surgeon looking over their shoulder? When can a police officer ever engage in a real life or death gun battle during police academy training or in-service training? When can a police officer ever fight for control of his firearm where the stakes are final? How many real shootings can a police officer observe from a front row seat before they ever hit the road? How many shootings can a police officer participate in with an experienced officer guiding them?

I don't like that they are running cops ragged with too much overtime. HIRE MORE COPS.

Someone who is tired or run down is more susceptible to making a mistake. You don't need that extra stress on you.

Extra money? Don't be THAT greedy where you are liable to make a career-ending mistake. (or get shot) IT AIN'T WORTH IT.

Chicago is a poster child for poor leadership in both civilian government and police command.

I hope Trump wins and wins BIG.

The deadliest weekend comes when ALL OF THE CPD WAS WORKING AND BURNING THROUGH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF OT. YES THE ENTIRE DEPARTMENT WVERY ABLE BODY WAS WORKING

Now some will want to say that those extra bodies were assigned to Wrigley. That is in fact true all 3rd watch officers were. But every district in the entire city had more bodies working than on any given weekend in the entire year because all days off were canceled on those watches too.

I bet you hear nothing about this in the papers or the news. BLM and the politicians of the once fine city should be ashamed and embarrassed. Their years of pandering and back room deals are finally catching up. We are up of 200 homicides from where we were last year and are double the amount of shootings. You can't write a better script. Reap what you soe you political sell outs. BLM has one and you are getting what you want.

Hahaha, they striped out all the "extra" manpower they normally had patrolling. Hmmm. I thought this was going to be about last-minute fishing in Lake Michigan off yachts? You know, like Deadliest Catch, only we don't throw lobster pots off our Hatteras. We just "fish".

I hate the end of the season. And they seem to rush you out of the slip, too. I think they should let you stay until the weather turns bad, not by a specific date.

Of course, I don't park my Hatteras in Chicago anymore. Ever since that fellow Washington tried to up the "parking fee" on us at the marinas, many of us moved our yachts up to Wisconsin or other places.

Just like the common people going up to Wisconsin to avoid paying sales taxes every week, us wealthy people went up there with our yachts.

As to this "Deadliest Weekend" nonsense, I am sure they will work hard to better their numbers before the end of the year. They shoot worse than the fellows at the Rod and Gun Club.

Did everyone go vote yet? You know who we all voted for - early, of course. (A Howell doesn't stand in lines and I think this year a LOT of people are going to go vote)

Not because he is a fellow billionaire. He just knows how to run things.

If you don't think so, you have never stayed at any Trump hotels and resorts. I like him and I like his shirts.

(Macy's stopped selling his shirts, so we boycott Macy's. Look at their stock (down) - they felt it when WE stopped shopping there!)

Now where is my Rolls?

SCC, ""The communities that we typically see violence in, they didn't get shortchanged," he said. "We had adequate resources there."

The operative word is "adequate".

The definition from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/adequate
1 : sufficient for a specific requirement ; also : barely sufficient or satisfactory

Only a moron would use "shortchanged" and "adequate" in the same statement. Is it any wonder there were 17 dead.

"Chicago Values"; 17 human beings murdered in Chicago on one weekend, and the City Council is voting on taking down the Trump sign! "Chicago Values" and the author of the term, (Rahm) are a disgrace and absurd!Apparently these deceased citizens of color being murdered means less than taking down the name of a political enemy. (Even though that "Enemy" donated $50,000.00 to Rahm's campaign!) Has all of the Black leadership been compromised? Where is Fr. Faker and the Church leadership? Every week you take money from White parishes to help Black ones; how about standing up for those Black kids. To hell with the Cubs, and Trump's sign; kids are being murdered, and we are not stopping it! One of the deceased was 14 yrs old. A set of 17 yr old twins killed together, has this magnitude slaughter become Normal, routine, acceptable? Rahm and the City Council, and the Police have failed to protect the residents of this city. Bad use of "shortchanged," Special Ed. You know who's getting fucking shortchanged? The north side districts whose residents never see a cop anymore, particularly at night, because seemingly the entire fucking police force was "redeployed" to babysit the southside. The 19th district, which is down 150+ cops since the consolidation with 23, and its TAXPAYING residents who are getting robbed blind by dude because he's going where the police ain't (nature abhors a vacuum!), are being shortchanged every fucking day. As a non law enforcement person who reads this blog to be educated on things that the mainstream media will tell us, there are a few questions that I hav, that hopefully will be answered by you, the men and women working every day on our streets.

1: What is the actual number of working police officers in the Chicago Police Department? I have read it should be 12,500 - 13,000. I have heard the number is approximately 11.000 - 11,500 and shrinking.

2: What happened to the money in the city budget that was allocated for the police officers that the city is short. If there should be 13,000 and we only have 11,000, where did the money go for the 2,000 that the city is not employing?

3: Is there a direct corellation between rising crime rates and shortness of police officers?

4: Has there been a reduction or a increase in administration in the last 5-6 years?

5: When properly used and trained do the specialty units that used to work the city and concentrate on specific crimes, assist street cops in doing their jobs, and keep crime down?

I am not a expert by any stretch, but I have common sense, so I think I know the answers to these questions, but would like to hear from the men and women who's boots are on the ground.

This city needs help.

An unbelievably deadly weekend in Chicago and the mayor only talks about the Cubs. The media does not dare to question him about the out of control violence which he just disregards because "his people" are not the victims. Why does the media fear his wrath so much that they wont question him about all of the carnage. I was going to vote for Hillary, but after this weekend and the mayors indifference, I went this morning and voted for Pence and the guy he is running with. Maybe they will have the answer, because this Administration obviously does not.

Seems like keeping all the officers on baseball duty paid off. They should try leaving the "community" districts understaffed more often. Over time, it would be a self correcting problem: eventually the bangers would kill each other off in entirety.

Every one of them that leaves in a body bag is one less threat to police and to society. I can live with that.

Even when you take away the handful of police or private citizen justified kills, you still have this wide gap that the media doesn't examine. The media needs to question the "death investigations" and the murders that occur on the highways that are within the corporate limits of the City of Chicago.Just because the city got the state to investigate those, in order to get lottery machines at the airports doesn't mean they weren't killed in Chicago.

Chicago’s Murder Rate Hits Grim Milestone
After an especially deadly weekend, Chicago exceeded 600 murders so far this year, a level unseen in more than a decade

CHICAGO—After an especially deadly weekend, Chicago’s spiraling violence passed a grim new milestone: more than 600 murders so far this year, up 45% from the same period last year and a level that hasn’t been seen in more than a decade.

Eighteen people were murdered from Friday through Sunday, bringing total homicides this year to 614, according to the official police tally. The last time annual murders topped 600 was in 2003.

The murders have far outstripped the totals in some other large cities this year, with more homicides than in New York and Los Angeles combined despite Chicago’s much smaller population. Along with cities such as Baltimore and Houston, Chicago is driving a surge in the national murder rate, which is projected to rise 31.5% this year from 2014.

While both 2003 and this year were chaotic and trying for many in the Chicago neighborhoods affected, community involvement in 2003 was relatively strong, helping police solve 51% of the murders that year.

This year’s murder spree seems relatively random by contrast. With little help from the community to explain why most of these people were killed only 21% of the murders have been solved so far.

Failure to provide the most basic protections in a civilized society, that of preservation of life and protection of property is the democratic legacy. To all you democrats out there, your saviors have failed you, but yet you still support them. They have done a magnificent job in brainwashing you and you don't even know it. When you chances of being murdered are greater than in a country where a war is being fought you may want to push the reset button and think about the grand movement you have become a part of.

The "do nothing" Democrats are in charge, what do you expect? All they care about is getting their paychecks and thinking of ways to get more money without doing anything.
