Harvey Manhunt
Not sure if this is a cop or a security guard. We've seen reports stating both. But this is one cold blooded asshole:
- Police are searching for a man who shot and killed a Canadian National Railroad police officer and stole two vehicles Saturday evening in south suburban Harvey.
About 7 p.m., a woman called police to report a man stealing her car, according to Harvey city spokesman Sean Howard. The woman was able to get in another car and followed the man while speaking with police. After hearing police sirens and realizing he was being followed, the man crashed the stolen car near 159th Street and Park.
The man then ran towards the viaduct on the nearby railroad where he saw the Canadian National Railroad police officer in a vehicle, said Howard. The officer was found shot in the abdomen and was taken to South Suburban Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The shooter stole the officer’s vehicle but then abandoned it in the 100 block of 71st Street, according to Howard.
Hopefully, they find him quick. And we were just talking about railroad security.

100 71st as in chicago... East or west ... I work in 003 so east and never heard about it at all .. great communication this city has. Two blocks from the border and he could easily be walking around in 003 and no ones looking for him
And it goes on and on and on its heaven and hell. Ronnie James Dio. This fucking sucks. American law men under attack and no one cares. Do want you want fire away where did you get the firearm. Stop the madness president Trump. We have your back.
First Rule of Fetal: Never get involved in a car chase. They never end well.
No ISPERN? RR PD doesn't have ISPERN?
"The man was seen wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans..."
Once again, omitting the offender's race...and the fact that he's an offender.
rb
Since there was only a description of his clothing, should I assume the shooter was a black man?
Disgusting story. Execute immediately.

No, that would be politically incorrect and racist. For shame.
If this were the other way around, there would massive protests over the killing of this thug!
This city and country is fucked up!
Once again three Chicago media TV outlets just gave the clothing description MINUS 'race' height, weight etc. all info that;s part of the continual all-call radio messages monitored by the media.
"The man was seen wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans..."
Was somebody looking for guns to steal????
He was a copper.
- From the Canadian National Railroad website.
"In the U.S., each state in which CN operates grants police powers to CN Police Officers. State specific powers are also augmented by Interstate Authority granted by the United States Secretary of Transportation (Code 49USC28101)"

Historically bad communication on Z7
not sure if it's the zone or the surrounding zones. Working on z10 past few years we constantly get information from Z3,Z6, Z12, Z13
If the thug meets his demise at the hands of the police you know the family and the media will be pushing their "the police are the problem" agenda.
You'll hear plenty of " he didn't do nuffin", " he was fixin to turn his life around" ad nauseum.
as a black man I am offended that Chicago local news media does not find it necessary to list race of an offender . It seems to local news media , all violent criminals are BLACK unless they say otherwise .
it doesn't say much for the black people in Chicago
Amazingly Ol girl had another car and friend nearby to chase after the Thug. What a convenience.
More to the story that hasn't been reported.
This case has "a cousin and I kno'm only as Dre" all over it.
No doubt it's very evil parolee MF from the Sanctuary City.
To the unpublished:
You completely misunderstood, but then, reading comprehension is a skill.
He was a CN Railroad police officer. The gunman did not care what race the officer was, only that he was the police. This situation is similar to the Metra police officer who was killed in Harvey a few years back.
Condolences to the family of the officer.
Very much a police officer with nationwide authority anywhere on and about the railroad and due to cooperative agreements with other railroads. Worked cases with the Union Pacific PD. Good people.
P.S.: The victim should be listed on the ODMP and the memorial but the listing may have been delayed when they saw Canadian National and might have mistakenly referred it to ODMP Canada. Canadian National bought out Wisconsin Central which took over a chunk of the old Milwaukee Road.
Most of the railroads hire both cops and security guards, with the guards usually being unarmed, low paid, and contract. Either way, it sucks. Most RR cops work 99 in some of the worst neighborhoods. If you have rail yards in your area meet with the rail cops and learn how to get up on the tracks safely. Drive through the yards and learn the layout. Just be careful crossing the tracks. As a general rule, always expect train movement on any track in any direction at any time. And if you want traffic stopped, have dispatch call the railroad.
Most of the RR cops have access to ISPERN and have radios that can communicate with the local PD. When the shit hits the fan Chicago has always had a large and professional response. Unfortunately some RR managers think that's an excuse to keep man power low and backup far.
As to this incident, it may have started in Harvey and ended near Homewood. Looks like state and a number of neighboring towns showed up to help. As usual the media is low on information.

Sounds like it wasn't police, but a security guard. Not that it makes it better. Still means a violent thug pos is out shooting at people in uniform.
CN and the family released a statement. The victim was a contract armed security guard who was dispatched to a trespasser call. No clue if he had a vest or put any lead into the bad guy. While he was not a sworn police officer it still sucks that he got killed.
Stay safe and keep your head on a swivel, we are in dark times.

Boy, you are a moron if you don't know that E. Hazelcrest or Harvey DOESN'T border your District. And, BTW 100 E. 71st is in 003. 100 W., well, You should stick to the desk. Another suburban kid playing ghetto gladiator shows his stupidity.
And the guy killed was a contract security guard. It's a shame a poor working guy got shot by these mutts, but he wasn't a CN Police Officer, so no ODMP, and a lot of this escapade, and search, was broadcast over ISPERN. This poster got it right, and good tips....

Saw his wife and family on the news last night and felt very badly for them. They seemed like nice people and could not disagree with them at all. I hope the South Suburban TF can resolve this one soon. They did close the Metra Policeman's murder several years ago. Lets do it again gang and prayers for he and his family. This time of year really adds to this tragedy.

Thank you for pointing out for us. I was prepared not to care at all, but now that you let me know it still sucks, well, I am putting a sad face emoji on my Facebook page.
Has anyone started a go fund me or sent anything to the family, maybe through the railroad, so as to not make family's address public.

Yup. Also -- always step OVER a rail, not ON it. The top is rounded a little, can be slippery, and you can fall, hit your head on the other rail (they are 4' 8 1/2" apart) and be laying there when something comes along.
Stay clear of power-operated track switches (turnouts.) They operate with a lot of force and can trap your foot. Can be operated by some guy in a control center 1000 miles away, these days. You'll see a long, low box mounted alongside them on the ground, that is the machinery that moves the points, or "throws the switch." Always watch for loose debris on ground and stay clear of moving trains -- doors and crap do fall off, sharp steel banding ribbon on a lumber load can come loose and be waving around in the breeze waiting to snag something...
100-year-old trick here, if you are walking between two tracks with moving cars and the relative motion starts to make you dizzy, just sit down right where you are and wait rather than risk stumbling into a train. These new roller-bearing cars move with hardly any sound, and engines may be 10,000 feet away and can't see or hear you. No cabooses anymore as a rule, just a flashing red light on the coupler of the last car -- if the train has been "made up." If not, and just switching, maybe not even that.
Also look out for the packs of stray "rib dogs" that roam isolated areas like these. No fun, I can assure you, especially when there are like seven or eight of them and all you have is a "switch broom" with a metal ice-scraping tip you were lucky enough to find. You do have an unlimited supply of rocks, but this going back 50,000 years to "man against beast" ain't where it's at.
Oh. "STOP" signal to engine crew is a flashlight, fusee (flare), red kerchief, your hat, anything swung forcefully, horizontally, from side to side like you really mean it -- the old "washout" signal.
Dangerous environment.

"Movin' on up!" Now we are getting somewhere. Imagine it -- a lawman!
