Economics 101

  • Whole Foods Market, facing its worst sales slump in more than a decade, is taking a step that would have been unthinkable in its high-flying days: shrinking the size of the chain.

Though Whole Foods plans to open six stores during the current quarter, including two relocations, the company said Wednesday that it's shutting down nine. That kind of retrenchment hasn't happened since the last recession was underway in 2008.

The company, which about 440 U.S. stores, also said it was abandoning its ambitious growth target and no longer plans to reach 1,200 locations as it tries to get expenses under control.
So with everyone else being charged more to subsidize Rahm's dream of ending a "food desert," how will this impact Whole Foods bottom line?

Social Justice Warriors meet economic reality.

Whole Foods is racist if they close englewood store... racist... why can't people from the north side travel to the south side and bring their money to black neighborhoods.... I don't care if they get a camera ticket-- Rham is racist for putting that camera light ticket there

Too bad, I hate to see a business close, people lose their jobs, no tax revenue for government who has to shift that burden on individuals. BUT...a bad business model is a bad business model and will not work unless it is the government bad business model. Which works to the detriment of the customer.

The Whole Food chain charges way less for its products at the Chicago's Englewood location while charging FULL BOAT at its other locations in working class white neighborhoods. I hope they go bankrupt. Imagine if it was learned that a store chain did the opposite and charged much more for its products in black neighborhoods than its stores in white neighborhood.

This is going to be an interesting "study", and it would have had a different outcome if Hillary had won. Under a Democrat Presidency, you can be certain that some form of tax shelter would be developed to protect these businesses and compensate for their losses. Starbucks, Whole Foods; all of these businesses that prey upon White Guilt, because let's face it: the vast majority of customers in the two named businesses are White! The Whole Foods in Englewood was clearly an attempt to bring a quality of value and life in a Subsidized Package, that at some point would be paid for by the rest of us! Whole Foods in Englewood will be gone before Pat Quinn's first term as Mayor ends! F&ck Rahm & his Chicago/Wimette Values. Baby"G"

I wouldn't care if they build all the popular stores in black areas and even dropped the prices some. For me, that would mean I could let my wife and kids shop in Orland and other places by themselves. For now, I and my older son go with them armed. It's sad, but that's the reality and the liberal PC anti gun politicians are to blame.

Off topic but interesting, word is McCarthy is furious over being sidetracked in his bid to take over armed security at the airports with the Jackson nonsense. He had hoped to quietly disband the unarmed Clout babies at the airports and replace it with off duty C.P.D. as an added layer of qualified responders by as early as Fall 2017. Trump has vowed airports and airport security to be a major homeland security issue and $$$$$$ to go with it. Ex-Aviation was to be offered less sensitive positions with 2 current private companies at substantial less pay. For $32.50 an hour I'd sit in a booth and press a button all day on my days off instead of VRI in a rancid Beat Car in 011.

Personally i never shop there way overpriced, and food is marginal just got back from walmart and Jewel in the close suburbs lots of free bags "paper or plastic" more than 1 way to beat this nonsense! On another subject this headline from the #1 news blog Drudgereport.com:

MEX NOT READY TO TAKE BACK ILLEGALS

http://www.krgv.com/story/34470505/mexico-preparing-for-uptick-in-deportations

TAMAULIPAS, Mex. – Towns south of the Rio Grande Valley in Mexico are bracing to see an uptick in deportations.

Tamaulipas President of the Chamber of Commerce, Julio Cesar Almanza Armas, said they aren’t fully equipped to take in a large number of nationals who are deported from the U.S.

“We aren’t ready for it, but it has to be done. I know that they are already working on it, the local, state and federal government and the cities along the border,” he said.

Cesar Almanza Armas said the economy in both Mexico and the Valley will take a hit if mass deportations take place.

You better get ready get rail cars ready and your economy will take a hit you say! Our economy has taken a hit for years with all the illegals here, the forgotten men and women of America elected President trump who is doing what he says, that is what we the people want and are getting! You can have all the phony waste of time marches you want as we laugh at your utter disregard for "law and order" it is coming quicker and we finally have a great team in place! Finally sworn in Attorney General Jeff Sessions will be sending a contingent to this state-county-city soon like police work that is gritty and dirty and tough, expect the Sessions team to forensic audit this city and elected and it will be many on the bus to the federal building to long the theft of taxpayers money has been taken and now it is time for prison for the "fat cats!"

Rahm remember how your rich friend congratulated you on taking away police retirees health care I am sure you spilled your wine glass laughing, while Chicago has over 500,000 illegal here and you using tax money provide free food-homes-schools and then they get treated freely at the best hospitals clogging up the system that is costing us untold billions and the police health care savings was paltry compared to this, the officers that served the citizens sacrificing many things holidays-time with families and most of all HEALTH and you slap them like you did mayor the 50 said nothing very disgusting and unconscious able! God please bless our officers health and safety and bless the "spirits of the air" This very "insignificant" blog that gives us some "comfort" in trying times!

Ho'Foods Englewoods is the chains community service "100% write-off" store.
No Stop Shopliffer Policy too. Loss prevention is nonexistent. All losses emanate from this location.
Should they close it, Pete's Produce will gladly fill that ready built void.
The land deal already made a politician some decent coin and the sizable lease is keeping Ho'Foods anchored for now.

That actually happened.
I was a department manager for both A&P and National Tea food stores in the 70's and it was discovered that National Tea, in particular, had three different pricing zones in the Chicago market. Even their newspaper flyers inserted in local papers reflected it.
The City's department of Weights and Measures got involved and ultimately, an ordinance was passed requiring uniform pricing in all areas of the city. It's probably still on the books. There was also a law against pricing fruits and vegetables 'by the piece', so those specials on '3 avocados for 1.99' and 50cents a cucumber are probably also still illegal. (Jane Byrne might have been with Weights and Measures then, but I don't recall.)

From breaking news front page:

Pew report: More than 2.5 million immigrants live illegally in Chicago, L.A., NYC

A report released Thursday estimates more than 2.5 million immigrants in the country illegally live in the metropolitan areas of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, which have pledged to fight President Trump's plans to expand deportations. The study by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center provides...

Now that's a lot of money we as taxpayers are forced to spend! Hello rahm it is us the thin Blue line, the street coppers that are being as usual constantly bastardized you said at 1 time "you had on backs" then you remove police retirees health care, and you take the active police health care and destroy much of it, then sir you have not held up fully funding police pensions! Would that be like lying? How many billions are you spending buying illegal votes? What is the real reason is it that? The thirst for power as the blood runs in the streets and we are talked about national news everyday! President Trump is constantly talking about the bloodshed, what have you and the 50 done?

Why are we violating the federal Laws it makes many to use eddies word "uncomfortable" and another word from your mentor barry obama acting "stupidly!" The "Trump train" is on the correct track, you need to rethink "law and order" which is desperately needed here quickly!

You talk to senior citizens in the communities that are overtaken by thugs and gang bangers they hunker down, cannot ever go out at night, our young school children need "safe zones" to attend classes and many after school are forced to stay in and cannot be a kid and "go out and play" fearing the next bullet will wind up piercing their bodies! rahm you say and the others it is "for the children" Ok got that but you let the mayhem continue and police manpower to deplete and the press to 24/7 attack police and your office never defends police, we have other people in so called "good neighborhoods" having police officers taken and moved and the element creeps over to do the usual murder, mayhem etc... Mayor FYI the police are not the problem, but like a disease the police CPD is the solution to the disease guess you will never realize it correct?

To Anonymous: Michelle Obama did not coin the term "food desert". Most knowledge of food deserts has come from studies of the United Kingdom and the United States. In fact, the term food desert was introduced in the early 1990s in western Scotland, where it was used to describe the poor access to nutritious foods experienced by residents of a public housing development.Let's stay away from "alternative facts."
