- Oakland’s choice to head its beleaguered police department will get the highest base pay of any police chief in city history.
Not only will incoming Chief Anne Kirkpatrick have the largest base salary of any top cop in Oakland — at $270,000 — her total compensation package includes a bump for various degrees and other premiums, dictated by an agreement between the Oakland Police Management Association and the city.
Total compensation and benefits come to $299,675. Oakland has a force of 765 sworn officers.
Commanding a force the size of 007 and 011 combined for $300K. For that price, there ought not be a single homicide in Oakland the rest of the year.

I have nothing against Kirkpatrick obtaining the best compensation package she can, as the chief of police; it's a stressful job, and chiefs are tossed out on their keister almost as fast as politicians these days. But I don't think Kirkpatrick will long survive the strange antics of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. Hopefully, Kirkpatrick will keep some of her personal items in boxes in a convenient storage facility, all the better to ship them out to her next high-paid gig, wherever it will be. Between the Mayor and the stupidity of some of the officers who work for the OPD, I don't think chief Kirkpatrick will have a long shelf life there. Let's not forget that Mayor Schaaf fired four police chiefs there in a one year span.

Jody Weis was paid $310K for 3 years, and his resume wasn't even half as impressive as Kirkpatrick's is. Go figure.

Oakland's gain is the CPD's loss. The City of Oakland has a lot of problems and crime is one of them. They need a sharp and tough top cop who has know crime fighting qualities. She can stop crime and do it in California style.

California is a very expensive place to live. Police officer salaries routinely reach $150,000. Oakland used to be a real dump, the birthplace of many criminal anti-social groups. The black panthers for one. But ,now it is gentrified. The mayor is a women, the top two people running the fire department are women.

Daughter lives in San Francisco. She pays $4,200.00 a month in rent for a 2 bedroom apartment. She has her own doorman though ( the drunk vagrant that sleeps on her door stoop). She doesn't run him off as he causes no trouble like the rest of them in the neighborhood. She's probably the only one in SF that loves the police as she has to defend them against her liberal coworkers every time an incident happens. California is a shit hole.
