- The number of people shot in Chicago this year is nearing 1,000 after a violent weekend left seven dead and 31 others wounded, according to data kept by the Tribune.
As of Monday morning, at least 992 people had been shot in Chicago this year. Last year, the city passed the 1,000 mark on April 20 and had reached 1,054 by this time, the Tribune data show.
The pace of homicides is virtually the same as last year. There have been at least 179 homicides so far this year compared with 180 this time last year, according to the data.
179 versus 180 - down a single homicide from last year. And that doesn't even count a bunch of "death investigations" that might still be reclassified, half-a-dozen on life support that we know of, and at least one expressway homicide that Special Ed's people say didn't take place in Chicago because the Illinois State Police are investigating it.

The City has the biggest population loss in the state, and all the crime isn't helping.

Chicago has the lowest homicide clearance rate of any major city with populations over 250,000.

well, actually you are correct. Chicago is not in the top 20 most dangerous cities in Illinois and does not make the top 50 most dangerous cities in the USA, based on shootings and murders per 1000 population. But, the numbers frighten people. It is no consolation to me. It is time these gun carrying thugs are locked up for a long time

Even Stevie Wonder can see the answer to that question!! Black and hispanic alderman held a press conference to say they will approve Johnson as police superintendent. They even came out and stated that they ( the minority alderman and population) now control the city and this is their guy. Rahm did not want the black chief from Atlanta because he could not control him. Rahm wants a black face to blunt the slings and arrows that are heading his way because of crime. White males are no longer wanted in city government or in the police department. And, if you read the column in the Tribune (DAhleen), white males are no longer wanted in the democratic party, only blacks, Hispanics and other races. They make no bones about their racism. Why the victims are of course...Having health care is now mandatory. Didn't you get a 1099 type form from the city showing you had health insurance? Has to be on everyone's tax return, so they must have it, right? I'm sure they wave thier blue cross card at the bambalance team and the ER docs.
