No Manpower Shortage
There's no manpower shortage, but according to Administrative Fax Messages, the following days off are listed as "Restricted Time Off:"
- 16 - 18 Jun (Father's Day Weekend)
23 - 25 June
04 - 09 July (Tuesday to Sunday?)
We're going to go consult our Magic 8-Ball and predict the following future Days off cancelled/restricted:
- 03 - 06 Aug (Lollapalooza)
11 - 13 Aug (Biliken weekend)
19 - 20 Aug (Air and Water Show)
01 - 05 Sep (Labor Day)
For every correct prediction, we're going to insist that Special Ed and Kevin "Lie to the aldercreatures" Navarro each contribute $25 to the Chaplains fund. It's the least they can do seeing as how they continue to insist we aren't shorthanded, but will be cancelling days off and restricting time for some reason.

God, I hate what this job has become.
If we're not big time short police officers then why has getting time off been absolute hell over the last 6-7 years if not more. It's been the worst ever over the last 2 years. I'm guessing the massive retirements and resignations coupled with lack of hiring has brought it to a head. Thanks politicians!
Every District was in a RAP this weekend. city is full of BS. The City went to $h¡±.

Inspector General Ferguson called our duty availability pay a "contract sweetener". Must be nice to be the IG and have ALL the nice weekends off without worrying about having your day off cancelled, or comp time denied.
Tammy Duckworth was on the radio this morning calling for and she plans to introduce federal legislation for special training for police throughout the country to treat people with disabilities. She said she worries that chicago police might be mistreating people with hearing loss. The might be getting mistreated because they can't understand officers commands. And officers may believe they are being defiant. The attacks on law enforcement continue. On Duckworth a lot of possibles and guessing going on. Tell us one case for your proposed legislation.

For those questioning why a grievance would be possible for the Summer Mobile assignments, and what furlo has to do with it, here it is.
For example, let's say I have 14 years on and worked in 011 last year. I picked my furlo in 011 and took a summer furlo.
Then I bid to 016/went to 016 on management. I carry with me my summer furlo, but will have shirt seniority.
Here is the rub with the Summer Mobile detail- selected officers can not have summer furlo. Why would they send an officer who won't be there because they are on furlo? It defeats the purpose. So they hobby seniority- skipping any with summer furlos.
Hence, a more senior officer gets sent on a "reverse seniority" detail, simply by the choice of their furlo selection.
And it has happened to a handful of people.
Any body feeling like the City is getting a little stupid with this?
The city continues to have festivals at a record pace while charging fees and taxes plus permit. Yet The FOP has not even had talks for a off duty initiative for time and a half pay.
The natural reaction to this hostile environment will be people going on the medical like the sheriffs do.
DONT forget Commanders in districts approve festivals! DONT let them fool you into thinking these things just happen.

June 23-25 is our great Pride weekend. Following the week prior, which we will celebrate Pride Fest and a combination of Market Days, we will then have a splendid, colorful, jubilant, parade with floats, dancers, and joy.

Hit the medical that is the answer they will learn the hard way
As a supervisor I can attest to the manpower shortage and overworking of the officers. Restricted time off, canceled RDO's and forced overtime is what anyone can only count on. I'm very concerned having just worked a fest and a shooting at the beach this weekend. We are beyond short. There are not enough cars to handle normal district level calls, but some in charge feel that approving these fests and detailing out manpower is a brilliant idea. Officers and the citizens are being put at a great risk unnecessarily. It's appropriate to limit the fests due to resources. Another alternative is to increase a VRI type initiative citywide in order to increase the manpower voluntarily without overworking officers or canceling days off. The cost will be the same monetarily. If this initiative is created, some higher up will take credit even though he or she would have read it on SCC.

Another brilliant move by the gene Williams pick for management and labor affairs with the approval of the city hall pick for general counsel. For those who got screwed, greive it and get time and a half for every day worked outside your district for the wrongful detail. Make them pay!

Great explanation! And although it happened only to few few, it still happened. Tough one because as you pointed out how or why would you send someone who would be on furlough
Oh yeah - the democrats say CPD is fully staffed yet no one can get a day off?
I guess they don't want anyone to start asking what the Democrats are doing with all the $$$ they are saving by not hiring police. If Chicago is budgeted for 13,000 police, yet we currently have 8,500 - what happens to the rest of the money?
FOR NON-POLICE: Every district in the city has lost officers who were temporarily assigned to summer mobile, yet 1/2 those officers aren't even on the lake front, but assigned to the south and west sides. And for every festival and concert, every district has to assign additional personnel to those events. You have to ask yourself, how many police officers are left in your home district to protect you?
4th of July rdo cancelled. Only way to get off is if you put in a PDAY. If your RDO your screwed.

We are not short manpower as long as people keep volunteering to work overtime. Stop working the overtime. Make them do it by reverse senority. Start using the medical. If you get into a fight with someone or a car accident, go IOD. Stop playing the city's game. Make them put the people who are in the nice units and have the weekends off out there on overtime to man the beat cars. After all, the only one you are hurting in the long run is your self. Think about it!

Due to the pre-planned events, sanctuary festivities and various other communitay panderings expected thru out the Summer of a Rahm,
and in lieu of the No Personal Break Order in the 012 District, All Officers will be issued and required to have in their equipment array, a Greek pickle (toursi) jar and sealable lid.
The District Bubblé Secretary will maintain a supply of reusable, green eco-friendly vessels.
The Daily Pickle Jar Log (CPD 17.002) will kept and issued from the Disrict Radio Room and Officers will sign out a vessel, returning it cleaned at the end of their tour by signing the DPJL in acknowledgement.
Department members are reminded that they will be responsible for the safe and timely disposal of the contents during their tour and an OEC Event Number will be obtained as No compensatory time will be granted for failure to dispose,, rinse and return of the vessels.

SCC, on a side note. My girlfriend has to pay to get fingerprinted to obtain her license. This company is getting 62 bucks a person. The city needs money, why not perform this at the local police station for even half that? Also, the police really need to run PSA's to let the public know that any and all internet transactions can be done in the local police station. Yeah, you walk right into the Commander's office and demand that he comply with the order.
That will definitely work!!
I left several years ago, and all my complaints about the Dept. then are now exacerbated beyond what even I imagined. The equipment, and the manpower sound WWWAAAAYYYYYY...worse than when I was there.
Back then some people weren't getting it....That was normal to them. Well look in the mirror now, and tell me everything is alright, and that its possible to do the job. Some may have thought I was a little too critical then. Do you see where Zooming past red flags gets you now? I don't know why our rank and file isn't together on this issue.
No Manpower, Not enough Squads, broken chairs, broken computers, and broken morale....When U see a deficiency, report it to your immediate supervisor. If he doesn't want to hear it, he is part of the problem. The same goes for the FOP.
It's simple Really...
All the news reports of such great technology and the district computers all fail. Then if you down your pdt don't ever expect it back and the spare is out dated and won't run anything

Putting it on the blog IS doing something about it. The truth is there for everyone to see.
Blame the FOP. They actually won (so rare) a lawsuit filed in federal court on behalf of police being denied comp. time when they want to use it. The federal judge hears the case and low and behold the feds tell the city , the officer earned the time and he gets to use it when he wants to, if their is a manpower shortage city of chgo you have to pay overtime to find someone to fill the spot. so the city appeals, on appeal the city begs , pleads and well you know what happens next. The city and the fop come up with the officer exchange program which just switches your day of with another copper, having nothing to do with the real issue of the cop burning his comp. time when he wants too. Its so nice to have the fop screwing us over. My god , what if the blm has infiltrated the fop. maybe this is why the fop keeps screwing the memebers over like on health care, merit promotions, etc..., etc.... , etc....
So now add to this the next step. 025 has now decided that they need volunteers for July 1-4. If enough volunteers don't come forward, spots will be filled by "reverse seniority". How many spots? Basically everyone who's RDO. (Memorial day, he "reversed" the top officer on midnights).

Swear to God, I thought I wrote this post but didn't. 50+ officers I know feel EXACTLY the same way. Forget this city, forget this county, forget this state. The only way I stay here after retirement is if they get rid of Aldercreatures, a$$ho!e Mayor, USELESS County Board members, yes you Prickwinkie, and ALL the useless state legislature.

27+ years, never heard it, never heard of it, have dealt with many deaf individuals on this job and not ONCE had a problem with them. This is coming from Duck Duck. Nothing but a ploy by her.
