Nice Beaches There Rahm
- Two people have been shot and critically wounded at 31st Street Beach on the South Side Sunday night.
The victims, two males of unknown ages, were shot about 6:40 p.m., officials said.
They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Officials closed the beach, the Chicago Fire Department tweeted. Police were working as of 7:40 p.m. to help patrons leave.
An e-mailer tells us that the shooting occurred following an argument over ...wait for it...a concession stand line.
Well that makes perfect sense.
Another e-mailer relates that citywide units were being called to 47th Street, too, to quell riotous behavior.
And what is going on with the City shutting down a public beach some 10 hours before a Dave Matthews concert on the hottest weekend of the year so far? Did the band pay for the beach? We're betting not. So taxpaying citizens (and probably a bunch of non-citizens in Rahm's sanctuary city) can't enjoy the "Forever Open Clear and Free" lakefront because the Parks can't properly secure a concert venue?
Must be a manpower shortage or something.

Before the press release my prediction, we need more after school programs (Park District is affordable, get off your ass and find a program for your children, libraries are free with wi-fi and open until 9pm), they need mentors (because the fathers are in jail or with their side piece), or some other bullshit. Tired of the excuses for the urban terrorists. So the public want the cops to have a Wild West shootout with 15 year olds now? Because the mama's and grandma's cannot control their wild ass children? If a cop takes one of them out, there are protests, photo ops, and lawsuits immediately. I cannot get one aldercreature to return email or phone call. None. Fuck you Rahm and fuck you 50 thieves. I have gone numerous times to 31st beach. Broken glass everywhere. The shitheads just sit it their cars openly smoking week throwing bottles out the windows. Stopped going when my dog stepped on glass and got cut bad. Down by the water you cant walk 15 feet without avoiding broken glass!! This city really does suck. The problem is who is the alternative to Rahm. Dart or Perkiwinkle. It would even be worse with them. The only option is to move!

Closing beaches is good. The combination of cool water and hot sunlight and air is deadly. It can bring on heart stoppage, heat stroke and other similar conditions.
Sand is not a public way. Therefore all cases that take place on sand will not be prosecuted by my office.
I thought the south side was avoiding beach violence. Too bad.
Thank you SCC for reminding us of the past "forever open free and clear" court decision that the Friends of the Parks still utilizes as a legal basis to challenge further lakefront development. But why does their advocacy stop at the lake? Why aren't they defending ALL city parks?
Soon the fences for LALAPALOOZA will start to wrap around Grant park, not a portion of Grant park, but Grant Park, Columbus drive and Buckingham fountain in it's entirety!
How does the 5th floor get away with this?
How does the city deny citizens and tourists alike the chance to access Grant park in it's entirety for an almost three week period in the height of our tourist season to benefit a for profit company? Then deny the public access for weeks following because of the sod damage that occurs every year? I get the whole increased revenue for the city thing, but do we have to give up whats basically the city's front yard for it? There's absolutely nowhere else that this event can be held at?
And what of the future Obama "library" in Jackson park? Is that public space to be lost to taxpayers forever too? Where's the Friends of the Parks, or the media on these issues? I get they dare not criticize anything surrounding Obama, but can the media not "follow the money" in the case of LALAPALOOZA?
C'mon reporters, we know some of you read this blog, grow a spine and do some actual investigative reporting reporting for change.

A civil society can only remain civil when the majority of its residents are law abiding and respectful of others. If that is not the case, and increasingly it appears that this is not the case in many parts of Chicago, then no amount of police officers can maintain the peace. When you have the feral thugs and their women descend upon the beaches and parks and act like uncivilized animals no amount of cops can control that for long so the law abiding people can enjoy those spaces. Yes, the cops make some arrests but nothing happens to those who are arrested. No fines, no jail time and for these thugs no shame or embarrassment by being arrested, which is what controls most people.
The beaches are the perfect place to take your toddlers, get drunk and stoned, then leave without them.
I go to the beach at north Ave to Fullerton have a great time, play volleyball and swim. Maybe even stop for a drink at the Castaway to catch up on the sports of the day

Once again the Whole System of Education is on view. One of these Morons felt justified in using Deadly Force to end a dispute over standing in line? Look beyond the act, and realize this is a reflection of an entire System of education gone bad. Instead of teaching that Jon Burge was bad, and Peoples and Folks have been oppressed by Whitey, and oh Yes, don.t forget to get those ACT scores higher, so these kids can get into the best colleges. And then those colleges can proudly say how diverse their student body is; until the third and fourth year, when the minority kids drop out. This is true, was at 12th street beach at noon, parked went to beach put up umbrella beach chairs ready for a nice day to cool off. Then the security guard tactical team comes over and tells us ?beach is closed" due to dave matthews concert that starts at 7 pm. Wondered why the security guard says "just doing my job" ok not mad at the tactical team, but he was told by the "command staff" at northerly island (WTF is a security command staff?) to make everyone leave the beach, but then he said we could sit by the area nearest the north end other side of concession stand by the rocks. This is a public beach, and absolutely no signs when your paying the excessive parking fees,or anywhere about beach being closed! was this due because of the mayors "to hot" excuse but then again maybe this guard saved us from being shot like an animal like what happened at 31st beach! Maybe a premonition of the aniamlas attacking everywhere!
About 20 years ago worked summer mobile we were the "beach patrol" had the 4 wheeler, and we patrolled that beach and the after parties at night were epic! Crime was low people could enjoy the beach and they were happy police were there, we kept the attacking animals away and if any bullshit popped up their asses were tossed out or locked up quickly! Word got around the thugs learned the people run the beach not the thugs! Now summer mobile exempts pos in charge having no business being in charge of anything have no idea what to do! rahm spent billions on the river-walk putting taxpayers on the hook for years then shootings over there also! The mayor knows police in Chicago are dangerously short putting the population and officers at risk of carnage everywhere!

Something about the state constitution...
I made an Foia request to prove that Rahm's donor c3 paid for the Lolla damage to grant park. The park district and attorney general Lisa in appeal said that the park district allowed c3 to hire their own contractors and the crooked park district stated they have no records. So am I to believe that the park district just lets anyone do $350k worth of rehab work with no documentation? This is how stupid they think we all are.

Rode our bikes to Northerly Island and were also told the bike trails were closed due to the concert, security guard told us we had to go back, imagine the look on her face when I told her if we go back we will be stuck there because we had already rode the trail and were heading home. I felt sorry for her and told her we were headed home and rode off towards Burnham Harbor. How can the city close public places to taxpayers?????
The real problem with this CHGO violence is the future shortage of doctors and scientists, then we'll really be in trouble.
