- Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans has chosen an African-American woman who runs New York’s Port Authority to be her chief operating officer at O’Hare Airport, City Hall sources said Thursday.
Stephanie Dawson will replace Jonathan Leach, a holdover from the team assembled by former Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino.

And then this bit of info slipped in the article:

Amazing - a government job that relies on the talent and ingenuity of private companies to actually do the heavy lifting, to make a political hack an extra $100,000.
Back in the heady days of McCarthy, when crime was "down" and we were all getting ribbons for "reductions," we would have forgone that unneeded expense for a bonus totaling one-third of our salary. We would have been at least as deserving as these airport hacks.

I can name hundreds of people who would take that job for that low of a salary. And will anyone challenge that 300k salary plus a fucking bonus. Geezus. 400k? For that job?
So why does Evans pick Dawson? Where's the connection between Evans and Dawson? What favor is this a payback for? How much more does Dawson get paid than Leach?

Not quite sure why they have to throw the "African-American" woman part in there. Would it be appropriate to say "White-American" women in a similar instance? Me thinks not. Then why is it they feel the need to identify this particular subset of women in such a way. The ethnicity of the woman has nothing to do with the qualifications of the job yet they make it sound as if it does. What a strange screwed up world we live in.

Well, this ethnicity thing is going too far. Like Mr. Velasquez who was appointed Aviation Deputy Commissioner for Safety & Secuity. Even though his resume shows he never was a police officer. But Blago appointed him State Homeland Security Director so he must be qualified. He is another political hack, like Ron Luberman or Forest Clayfool.
And the media refuses to call these people's qualifications into question since their only goal is to bash the police. Ms. Evans helped achieve that goal with the death of the Aviation Police, so she gets a free pass on other airport related issues. Monterey Security is waiting in the wings - despite an investigation for sending felons to Minnesota to work security at their football stadium. At least Minnesota authorities checked this guy's background. How many more unvetted people are working at Soldier Field since we know that the Dept. Of Professional Regulation does such a stellar job, right AlderCreature Solis?

This new hire already is the highest paid City employee and yet we offer her more money if she does that highly paid job well. Mr. Mayor you really need to start reading more, say the Harvard Business Review or even watch a couple of episodes of TED Talks. Improve your mind a bit, perform better, be more creative.

You may not know this but this is an extremely common attitude these days - only the people who do exactly the same job right at this moment are considered qualified. When you hear the screams on TV that we don't have enough scientists/nurses/lathe operators and have to import them from India and China - it's because of that.

It is all done via the nationwide Democratic Party network. It is the employment agency for the Democratic Party and used primarily for loyal, heavy-hitter Democrats when the Democratic Party is not in control of the White House. Via the network, government jobs and non-government jobs alike are attainable at entities controlled by the Democrats or one, big money Democrat.
And the same assholes will get reelected.

What are the airlines paying to rent warehouse space these days?
Ginger spent two years looking at "Police" on APD vehicles and uniforms and still had the balls to tell Congress you thought all that was removed. You think the average person is capable of that? She's exceptional, even for Chicago.
None of the salaries paid to Department of Aviation employees comes from taxpayer based funds. If you look at the City Budget they are paid out of the 610 and 820 funds which are subsidized by the air carriers at O'Hare and Midway. If the air carriers aren't bitching, why should you care?

It is still a tax. The carries do not pay these fees willingly. Just because you or do not directly contribute it doesn't mean we are unaffected by the manner in which it is spent. I dont drink soda, so I should not care about that tax?
