- A 33-year-old man accidentally shot and killed himself while in Englewood on Thursday night, police said.
At 11:55 p.m., the man had a gun in his waistband and was in a parked car in the 6100 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said. The man moved around the car and his gun went off, hitting the man in his abdomen.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, police said.
The gun was found, police said.

Wow, right across from the ole Alma Mater. Another honor student in the quantum physics program bites the dust. Obviously he was attending night classes at dear old Lindblom, high school of my misspent youth. All my siblings and I attended from the mid 1950's thru the early 70's. We actually learned things and all turned out quite well.
Lindblom HS and Englewood desperately need courses in gun handling and marksmanship as these nerdy, overly intelligent types just don't seem to get it.

Had to be a Glock or other "safety" free, striker fired semi auto.
I can't imagine how you'd have to twist and turn with anything else to first, get the safety to go off. Then, hook the trigger and pull it through the full stroke.

Been carrying off duty for 21yrs and have never used a holster. During summer and warm weather, gun is carried in the front short's pocket. With long pants on, gun is tucked into the waistband with the belt snug tight. Guns go off when the trigger is pulled. This fool obviously pulled the trigger when he tried to retrieve it from wherever he had it.

I'm torn. On one hand, I like Darwinism from improper handling of firearms. On the other, I think the city could make some good money in firearm safety for "urban utes."
