So Prickwrinkle Lied?

It wasn't about the health of people/folks who aren't paying the tax anyway?
  • More than 300 Cook County employees have been laid off after a proposed county soda tax was indefinitely stalled by a lawsuit, county officials said Friday.

Each county department had to cut 10 percent of its budget to meet the shortfall, according to a statement from County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.

In addition to the layoffs, more than 600 vacant positions will go unfilled, she said.

"I regret that these actions are necessary — and I deeply regret the impact they have on individual employees," wrote Preckwinkle, noting that she proposed the soda tax in part to avoid such significant budget cuts.
As someone pointed out, Cook County government is bigger than the government of many states, so we're supposed to feel sorry for them?
  • Cutbacks to vital offices in the county's criminal justice system could have a significant impact, authorities said.

The state's attorney's office announced that 17 prosecutors will be laid off, plus 22 other staffers. In addition, non-union staffers, prosecutors included, will be required to take two unpaid furlough days, according to spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Simonton declined to comment on the impact of losing nearly 20 prosecutors, but earlier this summer officials told the Chicago Tribune that the office was already understaffed as violence continued to spike at levels unseen in two decades. As a result, the office has made policy shifts, including a plan to stop prosecuting certain traffic offenses altogether.
We have some suggestions:
  • Lay off any prosecutors for weed;
  • Lay off any prosecutors in the shoplifting department;
  • Lay off any prosecutors in the "Throwing babies out 8-story windows" department;
That should balance the budget by Tuesday.

We all knew it was never about health. If so Prekwinkle would not have allowed people on welfare or LINK cards to be exempted from the tax. If it were about health everyone pays the tax as a deterrent to consume the unhealthy drinks. Cook county is a disaster and way to big.

Guess it wasn't about our health after all. Toni Preckwinkle is nothing but a Liberal Democrat thieving conniving politician. She could lay off 5 times as many patronage workers and things would run just as bad as they did before the layoffs. And any county commissioner who voted for this tax in the first place should voted out in the next election.

You voted for this and now you got it. Remember when these asses at the federal government couldn't get the debt ceiling raised a few years ago? What did they do to teach the asshole tax payers a lesson? They closed the national parks. We use them and they shut them down to teach us how they need to handle their business and that we need to support their fecklessness or we would be punished. Assholes will probably try to close the forest preserves to show us just how valuable they are and how we need to pay more.

Also... Prickwinkle... how's about you talk to someone about reallocating some of that section 8 money, cause plenty of rentals in shitholes is hyper inflated. Seriously $1200 to $1600 to live in shitholes-- the tenants get free daycare while they stay at home and smoke weed, and sell their linkcard on Facebook for $60 for $100 link. Seriously🤔

So the county doesn't get its $68M because of the soda tax hold. The 2017 budget for Cook County is $4.4B. How does that mean that they need a 10% cut to all departments? My math says that's a revenue loss of approx 1.5% of the total budget. Not complaining, bloated city, county, state spending all needs significant cuts. This just doesn't add up enough to be blamed on the dumb soda tax.

Stolen from the comment page of the Trib.....an example of wasted taxpayer monies.

The Cook County DUI Memorial Program.

The following description is copied right off the Cook County Government web site:

"The DUI Memorial Program is offered in Cook County to provide families an opportunity to safely commemorate a loved one who died as a proximate result of a crash caused by an impaired driver under the influence of alcohol, other drug or drugs, intoxicating compound or compounds, or any combination thereof, as well as to raise the public’s awareness of the consequences of driving while impaired under the influence.

"Under this program, a DUI Memorial Marker may be installed and maintained by the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (Department) for a period of at least two years for fatal crashes which occurred on or after January 1, 1990.

"A DUI Memorial Marker consists of a Sign, and Plaque (optional), which will normally be installed and maintained by the Department at or near the location of the crash. An immediate relative of a deceased individual of a crash caused by a driver found to be under the influence of alcohol, other drug or drugs, intoxicating compound or compounds, or any combination thereof, may apply for a DUI Memorial Marker through this program by submitting an official application form to the Department."

Relatives of the deceased pay for the Marker and Plaque.
However, the county Department Of Transportation And Highways pays for the installation and maintenance of the marker and plaque and county employees have to process and approve the requests. The County Treasurer's office has to process the payment for the signs. The County also employs a Roadside Memorial Coordinator to manage entire program.

The entire program involves a Coordinator and employees from multiple County Departments and yet the entire program has little or no value to the taxpayers who must support it. This is merely an example of the kind of waste in Cook County Government that has contributed to the layoffs of some county employees who are actually doing the taxpayer's work.

Suntimes

Six of the eight Democratic candidates for Illinois governor took part in a forum Friday organized by Rainbow Coalition PUSH, addressing issues facing Chicago and the state state that ranged from tax increases to combating Chicago’s gun violence.

Pritzker went on to link early childhood education — a cause he champions in campaign ads — as a deterrent to gun violence. He also said he was “outraged” by the killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald by Chicago Police officer Jason Van Dyke.

SCC and the FOP should get way ahead of this with ads everyday decrying the safety and well being of its police officers. Someone needs to start publicizing and advocating for the police. Enough is enough. and FUCK PRITZKER

With all these reductions across the board, then add in the FOX DECREE of raising the bar on felonies and cases they will not prosecute. So tell me just WTF do they need all this extra money for, to keep people employed who have nothing to do as a result of all the above. Patronage jobs???? Crook County does not need any prosecutors because they don't prosecute anything. Judges throw all the minor drug cases out before the ink is dry on the complaints. Threshold for felony shoplifting is higher and retailers have given up even showing up for court because they know it is a waste of time and money. Juveniles are given passes on everything. If there is no video, confession, or army of witnesses with immaculate backgrounds, the crime did not happen. And now under the new Social Justice model, anyone of color may be immune from wrongdoing based on the imaginary premise that they are unfairly targeted by a racist and biased system. Furthermore, any law enforcement action will be scrutinized and dissected down to the nanosecond and every microscopic movement of the event with this premise as the focal point. Add to that the sanctuary city policy that the brilliant mayor has implemented, making it legal for every illegal to commit any number crimes here and remain here, legally. Lay off the whole damn court system as far as we are concerned; the law in this town has been dead for some time.

Millenials who could be the key to the housing recovery are leaving the state.

92 of 102 Illinois counties lost population.

Illinois is the worst state in terms of income growth.

And the oncoming tax increase will wipe out all of the last years gain.

You could lay off 50% of County Clerk Dorothy Brown's office and the only change would be improved air quality.

iS THERE AN IMPEACHMENT STATUTE FOR THESE LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT? WHAT A JOKE! BAD JOKE VERY BAD JOKE. WHO'S LAUGHING?

7/15/2017 10:36:00 AM

No.....there is not......however.......

Incumbent Firing Formula:

Identify Incumbent name on ballot.

IF Incumbent is listed 1st.....vote for whoever is listed LAST

OR

If Incumbent is NOT listed 1st....vote for whoever IS listed 1st

Do not think about who you are voting for......

Do think about who you are NOT voting for......namely, the Incumbent.

Quantity of votes cast for a specific, single candidate, who is NOT the Incumbent, determines the success, or lack thereof, in the defined end result of.......FIRING the INCUMBENT.

All other options have been proven futile.

There are no MAGA Republican politicians in this state, nor county nor city.

Shit, there are few enough actual MAGA republican politicians in the entire fucking country...........

Or.....just scurry off to another part of the country.....it's not like this state, county or city is valued by those who prefer to bitch, moan, whine and then, eventually, run rabbit run as fast as their wittle wabbit wegs can carry them.......

PoxWreaker shouting Fire! in the theater.
It's about jobs.
PigWinkle would never attempt to reduce her staff or budget.

Gov'mint Jobs is all we have in Illinois.
Even those "shovel ready" infrastructure construction jobs are subsidized.
Democrats don't build factories or promote manufacturing but they sure are the advocates for the stay at home welfare class.
So, once PudWrinkle's genius staff comes up with another "Share the Wealth" tax, the layoffs will return to their jobs??
What a system. Rather than shrink the bloat they expand.
For every job lost thru attrition, Cook Co creates four.

Time to pick New Cook County Commissioners.

I will remind everyone. Toni P. Is a retired Chicago Alderwoman receiving pension benefits that surpass benefits received by most police officers. She is also a retired high school, teacher and may be recieving Soc. Sec. benefits. Possibly a pension from the Board of Ed or the Catholic Schools as she taught in both systems. If she were truly concerned about saving the Cook County money, she would follow the example of our President and take the minimum legal salary requirement....one dollar a year. After all she is already a double dipper, though no local news agencies report that fact.

You get what you tolerate.
If you tolerate it, you deserve it.
Something has to go, either the politicians or you.
Your choice.
Please note that bitching and moaning is not an option.
Vote them all out of office,
or
Move to another state.
It is just that simple.

How about Foxx is an elected official. The only way to get rid of her is indictment or defeat her at the polls.

7/15/2017 06:53:00 AM

The appropriate place for a memorial plaque is at the cemetery or mausoleum. Period.
Same as with these stupid white bicycles chained to lamp posts.

"Lay off 28 alderman and let the city only have 22 one per district." - 6:56 PM

Here we go again!

Let's get this straight once and forever. Wards must be of EQUAL POPULATION.

Your proposal is not only impossible. It's absurd. The 8th Dist. has a population of about a quarter MILLION (250,000). It would be the second largest city in Illinois. On the other hand, districts like 007 and 011 have populations of only about 60,000 people, each having less than a quarter of the population of 008.

Also, based on per capita comparisons between major city populations and the number of respective city council members, Chicago should have no more than SEVENTEEN (17) WARDS/ALDERCREATURES.

Is that clear? Any questions?

Be careful those that monitor this site will come looking for you. Remember she worked hard for those pensions. I had a alderfool tell me he works 20 hour days. And then I found out about Sandi Jackson, showing up for the monthly meetings with a luggage cart on the way to DC immediately after the meetings. She must have some frequent flier miles piled up.

A lot of low level admin people got laid off by sao. Not the lifers who come in twice a week and do nothing. Now when this tax passes, probably in a different form, the friends and family hires will begin at the expense of the freshly laid off. I'm sure political favors are owed. Lamon probably needs a job. And from what I hear people close to ex staffers that already retired were targeted here. And probably all were white and Hispanic. But nah this wasn't the plan the entire time or anything. Gmab. Dumbass voters.
