Disaster in the Making

  • Cook County’s top judge on Monday ordered his fellow judges who conduct bond court to release all defendants who pose no criminal danger to the public, veering sharply away from a cash-for-bond system that critics have long contended unfairly lands the poor behind bars.

“If they are not deemed a danger to any person or the public, my order states that they will receive a bail they can afford,” Chief Judge Evans told the Sun-Times.

“Defendants should not be sitting in jail awaiting trial simply because they lack the financial resources to secure their release,” Evans said, noting that judges will now be required to ask how much a defendant can afford to pay.

On the other end of the spectrum, Evans’ order also calls for judges to stop issuing cash bonds for dangerous people.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but Cook County judges aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. Most are political hacks, put into place as rewards for being mediocre lawyers and excellent politicians. Expecting them to adhere to something like a new bail schedule is like expecting them to follow sentencing guidelines - nearly impossible. They take their marching orders from politicians with the fingers in the breeze of popular opinion, you know, like Kim Foxxx refusing to prosecute statutes passed by the Legislature.

Without a bond, an actual cash guarantee to compel appearances in Court, we see a whole bunch of no-shows in the immediate future. And you can't really have a Bond Forfeiture Warrant without something (like cash) to forfeit. Oh sure, the clerks will enter it into the system somehow and understaffed cops/sheriffs will grab the Warrant List and go looking, shorthanded as they always are, with a backlog of tens of thousands of active warrants. And someone designated "non violent" will suddenly become violent and people/folks will cry, "It was only a shoplifting warrant - why did the police have to use so much force?"

Sounds like they are going to implement a new system.

Let them ALL Go! Don't bother arresting them, they will be back on the streets before you are. They won't even need any paperwork?

Tell your family, friends and neighbors, GET A FOID. GET A PERMIT! Carry everywhere.

So the rahmicide will go off the charts for sure. Can someone please tell me where the democrats parked their common sense or are they trying to adjust the population.
They don't need to do that the state congress is doing a good job on their own. But you know democrats, everyone wants to get a piece of the pie. Chicago is trying to make Detroit look like a country club and it is working

Let them all out. Empty the Prisons too.

Give everyone a weekend off, Police, Fire, everyone. Announce it ahead of time.

Let nature take its course. We could call it the Chicago Diet.

Well maybe if the "poor" didn't commit crimes then they wouldn't have to worry about not being able to come up with bail money.
This will break very, very badly for Crook County..... but once again the aim is to placate and appease "the community"

Why is it that anytime a politician or government official in this City, County or State has to make a decision it is always results in the wrong decision being made? Can anyone answer that question? It makes sense that about 63% of the moves in this state are outbound moves and 37% are moves into IL.

And we have around 6,000 units of government in IL which allows all of these pensions as the legal way to divert taxpayer dollars into a politicians pocket for a few years of representation.

This is just a vicious cycle. You placate the community by letting more criminals remain in the community, who in turn destroy the community.

Get out while you can.

As if retailers don't have a hard enough time competing with online sellers, now the shoplifters will be back on the street -- and in the stores -- in a few hours. The addict who steals $20 to $30 a day from Walgreens will make it impossible for that retailer to compete with the companies that fill prescriptions by mail.

Maybe what we'll need in Cook County is for every store to require membership, like Costco.

Are they trying to one up the southside millionaire/mayoral candidate who has ben paying criminals bonds recently?
He has been getting a lot of mileage for his caring for the poor criminals...

Let them use their LINK or EBT or better yet, their Section 8 benefits to post bond. Criminals will never stop being criminals until it starts costing them too much to be a criminal.
Living on the street and eating out of garbage cans might be the message they need to get because a slap on the wrist sure as hell ain't working.
Oh, never mind. Forgot for a second, it's a sanctuary city. Can't expect high standards of decency.

So while cruising past Pritzker Park on State and Van Buren, the open air downtown drug market that the city allows to flourish like a farmers market, we see one of Dart's kids nourishing himself with one of the many commodities offered while wearing . . . his ankle bracelet! And this is happening within earshot of the Metropolitan Correctional Center. We, being in fetal mode, looked the other way of course.

Isn't this unfair to decent poor people? They will be releasing all these criminals back into poor neighborhoods to further prey on the residents. Does anybody ever look at it in that manner?

"Cook County judges aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer"!!! Several years ago I read a Trib article that quoted from Ald. Burke's interviews with prospective judicial candidates and most discussions centered upon how the candidate has helped the democrat party, not on legal or temperamental issues. Had to take a shower with really strong soap after reading that. Sure does explain a lot, though.

xxxxxx

Is causing higher prices when I shop not a danger to me? Is the threat of stores closing, especially in certain areas, (deserts) because of rampant theft not a danger to the public?

Hey Tim Evans, enlighten me !

For the citizens that read this blog, this post reveals the danger that looms out on the streets for you, family and loved ones. Arm yourself. Get your FOID. Buy a firearm and get your CCW/training. You will need it. As cops we have already taken the required steps to safeguard our own. You, Mr. Citizen, should do the same. The POS have theirs.

Can't afford your cash bond then you can't afford a lawyer. The public defender doesn't want you either. Sucks to be poor.

You get booted out of crook county jail. Can't have three square meals a day. Free medical and dental gone. No more free laundry service. Guess the poor will have to really commit a major crime to get back into jail.

The wilding will continue unabated. The body snatchers will be busy.
We are on a record pace for homicides. We will surpass last years total
and the ballerina will keep dancing while Chicago burns. Does anyone care?

This is stupid but let's be fair here, the ones with gang ties already have access to bail money and with Foxxwinkle running the show Thug Inc. has no reason to worry about prosecution anyway. I don't see this having a big effect beyond what's already happening.

There's now no punishment associated with doing a criminal act. Your average asshole criminal only knows one thing "do I go to jail or not?" They don't care about probation/supervision or any other shit. All they care about is if they go to jail or not. Now jail is no longer a threat. So why worry?
